Discussion: What's the call

Batter hits a slow dribbler down third base line. Ball is in foul territory and still slowly rolling, inches from the foul line. The on deck batter throws his bat hitting the ball before it's stops moving, preventing the ball from possibly going back into fair territory. Umpire calls foul ball, believing ball had no chance of going fair. What's the call?

technically this is INT. by the on deck batter if it is close to the foul line and still moving.. it's a dead ball and the batter should be called out.. but this is can also be a judgment play if in the umpires judgment the ball was still headed into foul territory I would have a foul ball with a stern warning to the batter

BJ is spot on. This is where good umpiring helps both teams to have a good game and possibly a lesson learned by the on-deck batter.

Why would it be a stern warning to the batter and not the on deck hitter?

I would give a stern warning to the 3rd baseman for not stopping the ball before it was hit twice by a bat and not getting good leather on it! Just poor defense! LOL

Why would the on deck batter want to prevent the ball from being fair, if the runners were running chances are they would all be safe by the sound of the situation? What kind of bat was it? What OZ? There are a lot of unanswered questions that could help solve this mystery!

To answer your question Mikelmart, the batter was yelling to the on deck batter to throw his bat at the ball I forgot I was suppose to run after hitting the ball!

I find it totally bizarre that someone would do that to a ball that might roll fair. Did this really happen?
I’d call dead ball, interference on the on deck batter, the batter is out.

Yes, this happened in a 65 major plus game last week in Phoenix.

I watched that game.
I seen that play and the foul ball your talking about was
more like 2 feet from third base line
and had no chance to roll into play. The umpire made the right call....
