| Nov. 2 Gary Heifner 248 posts | The 1-1 count I know this topic has been beat up in recent years. The more guys I talk to and read posts on this site, the support for the 1-1 count seems to be very strong. For the 1st time in the last 6 world tournies, we didn't have a 5 inning game due to the 0-0 count and guys taking 2 strikes every time. The majority of our opponents were often 1st strike hitting as was our team. As a result, we had mostly 7 inning games which is what I want to play. The 1-1 count will encourage more hitters to hit that 1st good strike. It really sucks to travel to the World Tourney and not play full games. By saving game time, it will also make up for the teams that get up 6-8 runs and in the later innings and walk very slowly from and back onto the playing field to burn time. I hope the summit will discuss this. |
| Nov. 2 Jawood Men's 50 943 posts | The 1-1 count Agreed. This is such a no brainer. I just can't figure out why some people want to waste time standing in the batters box waiting for a pitch to hit. Get in and take a hack, it's slowpitch, not baseball. |
| Nov. 3 softball4b Men's 70 1250 posts | The 1-1 count There was one team we played that did every thing in their power to limit each game they played in to 5 innings or less. It kept the diiferential close in case the other team was more offensive minded. Then they basically rolled the dice in the open inning. We heard they were doing this, so we hustled in and out every inning and kept pushing. We managed to score 4 or 5 runs every inning and by the time the open inning came about it was a moot point. I don't mind starting 1-1, as long as you have one to waste. If nothing to waste then 0-0. |

Im a pitcher and I can not believe how many times a batter will just sit there and take strikes or look at a pitch that hits an inch away from the plate to take a walk. Its slow pitch. Did you spend money to sit there andlook at good pitches. Its a hitters game 6"-12' Meatball city. |

I don't think any game should be stopped because the time ran out if you are in the sixth inning. If your game is in the sixth inning then you're pretty much on time and the game should be allowed to play itself out. |

Gives the pitchers the first strike and makes the batters more aggressive which will make them better hitters in the long run. It increases the tempo of the game and makes the games seem faster if not go faster for all involved including spectators. 1 and 1 count would be an effortless to employ huge benefit to the senior game and TD's who want games/ tournaments to run efficiently within a time frame. |

| Nov. 4 THE HI-JACKER 118 posts | The 1-1 count Gary H: Does anyone know, how much time is saved when the 1 & 1 count is used? (ONLY a few minutes?) As far as the time limit, in the R.R., is the time limit 55 or 60 minutes? When the D. Elimination starts, what is the time limited, 60 or 65 minutes? ( AA, AAA, & Majors.) In Phoenix, last month, how many games in the AA, AAA, & Majors went 6 innings? 95 % or more? How many games did go the full 7 innings? (60%, 70%, or 80 %?) Does it really matter in the R.R. or D.E.? The 1 & 1 count, in most cases, allows the batter to file a ball off, once there is two strikes. So, the maximum time saved would be, if there is a 5 run limit & 10 batters took 1 ball. EXAMPLE: 4 runs have scored, bases are loaded, two outs & the last batter is @ bat. If, a hit, then the 5th run has scored. Side changes. It appear that all that is saved is the possibility of 1 to 10 pitches. How much time is lost do to the following: 1) Side changing? 2) Extra warm up pitches? 3) Batter taking to long to get into the batter box? 4) Catcher missing a thossed ball? 5) Catcher not throwing ball back to pitcher 6) Pitcher not catching ball? 7) Batter waiting on pitcher? 7) Umps not ready? 8) Ump out of balls? 9) Ump trying to collect or correct score? 10) Ump keeping score on H.R., runners, ect? 11) I am sure there are many more reasons. The 1 & 1 count may only save a few minutes? But, i believe the game will go faster if, batters, runners, fielders, & so, forth, did hustle more. Just my wooden nickle. T Hi-J |

Hi-J, only USSSA and BASA allow the extra foul with 2 strikes. I have never seen it be used by anyone else with a 1-1 count. I do agree with you though that the extra foul wastes about as much time as a 0-0 count. I understand it a little in USSSA because of the low pitch arch allowed, but I still do not think it makes a lot of sense to have an extra foul. |
| Nov. 5 mad dog Men's 65 4191 posts | The 1-1 count as a pitcher i love the 1-1 count, i do like it as a batter also as it makes me a touch more agressive at the plate.i'm a 1st pitch hitter to begin with,but if i find a pitcher not throwing first pitch strikes i tend to be less agressive and sometimes let pitches go by that i should of swung at. the 1-1 count also makes the pitcher be agressive as he has only 3 balls he can throw,so he needs to get strikes in there.not sure on the extra foul tho,for me it can both ways(i have played it both ways)pitcher love it,batter not so much.hey what about 1 pitch.i'm going to play in one this weekend with the kids,now there is a quick game. |

| Nov. 6 taits Men's 65 4548 posts | The 1-1 count Perhaps this backslide of the ban imposed is an example not unlike umpire judgement calls for the pitcher protection rule. Very few are consistent and no two are alike. Only one other person has been banned I know of, "Stoneman". He at least provided very useful info through his sometimes unusual posting, but useful just the same. This other supposedly banned person is still allowed to re do an ID, and still post... Perhaps he has something on someone. |
