Jan. 25 #6 Men's 60 1173 posts | Home Run Rule OK, here is my thought on the HR limit. I have played ball all of my life, and played softball againts the best, JERRY'S CATERING,HOWARD'S WESTERN STEER, COORS SILVER BULLETS, Smythe Socks, etc..With players like, Bruce Meade, The Crusher,Billy Blake,Mike Mecenka and the list goes on. When we played against them, it was ALL THE HOME RUNS YOU COULD HIT.It did make for a long game, but these guys earned the right to hit the long ball. When we were not playing against them, we would stay and watch them and they hit A LOT OF HOME RUNS AND THE GAME TIMES ALWAYS WAS DELAYED,But it was fun watching them. So in Major and Major +, let them have unlimited Home Runs and hit away. The AAA AND AA, can work on it.Just a thought. |
Jan. 25 #6 Men's 60 1173 posts | Home Run Rule Excuss me, Steele's Silver Bullets. |
Jan. 25 #6 Men's 60 1173 posts | Home Run Rule Damn spelling, Excuse me. |
Jan. 25 wagon487 Men's 55 578 posts | Home Run Rule um, okay? |
Jan. 25 wagon487 Men's 55 578 posts | Home Run Rule how much fun could it be if you are not the team hitting home runs? |
Jan. 25 #6 Men's 60 1173 posts | Home Run Rule When you play MAJOR AND MAJOR PLUS, Your suppose to hit homeruns! |
Jan. 25 #6 Men's 60 1173 posts | Home Run Rule That's my point, let the major and major plus hit all they want. AAA and AA have a set limit. |
Jan. 25 wagon487 Men's 55 578 posts | Home Run Rule I'm guessing you don't play major or major plus. |
Jan. 25 mad dog Men's 65 4191 posts | Home Run Rule wagon, not sure what you mean when you answered #6,but no the lower levels don't need to be banging them out.if a person is continuely hitting them out in AAA or AA they need to move up.i can and do hit them out at about a 15% rate,to me thats not a hi rate.if your hitting at 25% or higher you need to look at yourself and think about moving up. |
Jan. 26 cutty 44 posts | Home Run Rule Hello softballers!! Some teams depend on their home runs to compensate for their defense, or speed. If you check the run ratio(runs aloud vs runs scored) of certain teames you would know what i mean. This home run rule would make mangers rebuilt or restructure their teams. Soft ball is suppose to be a fun game. Any balls over the fence that is an out is like taking away the dunk in basketball. Some can some can,t. At lease mak it a single, let the big boys swing away. This still want guarantee a victory for the Major plus teams. Try it first before it is sit in stone. Guess you wondering if i,m a Major plus player. Yes i am. have been since day one (5 years). Now i may be forced to change my approach to the game, because i think hr every timei go to the plate. Not that i can hit it out everytime, but the mental approach is what makes major plus what it is. |
Jan. 26 #6 Men's 60 1173 posts | Home Run Rule wagon487, no I don't play major or major plus, what does that have to do with this? When we played those teams back in the day , the scores were like 45 -15.I guess you know who had 15?SWING AWAY BIG BOYS,Your fun to watch! |
Jan. 26 doker Men's 60 185 posts | Home Run Rule HEY GUYS DOKER HERE......I THINK YOU'RE MISSING THE POINT OF THE NEW HOME RUN LIMITS SET UP BY THE SSUSA....THEY ARE TRYING HARD TO GET GOOD MAJOR TEAMS TO MOVE UP TO MAJOR+...AND YET STILL BE COMPETITIVE WITH THE HOME RUN GUYS.......FROM MANY POSTS OVER THE LAST COUPLE OF YEARS ALL YOU HEAR ABOUT IS THE MAJOR+ TEAMS COMPLAINING ABOUT NOT ENOUGH TEAMS IN THEIR DIVISION...THEY TRAVEL ACROSS COUNTRY AND STILL ONLY PLAY 2-3 TEAMS IN A BIG TOURNEY...IS THAT FUN ????? AND USUALLY THEY ARE THE SAME TEAMS THEY ARE PLAYING....WOULDN'T IT BE BETTER TO HAVE 6-10 TEAMS TO PLAY THAN 2-3......SEEMS LIKE A NO BRAINER TO ME...AND OUTS INSTEAD OF SINGLES SHORTENS THE ININGS AND AND THEREFORE NO 3-4 INNG GAMES.....JUST SEEMS LOGICAL TO ME ...AFTER ALL THERE ARE NOT TOO MANY MAJOR TEAMS THAT CAN COMPETE WITH MAJOR+ TEAMS IF HRS ARE UNLIMITED AND THE GAMES ARE NO FUN IF YOU ONLY GET TO PLAY 3-4 OF A SEVEN INNG GAME.......JUST A THOGHT.....DOKER |
Jan. 26 Mr. Manassas 244 posts | Home Run Rule My thoughts on the matter....One of the big problems with classification is that there are too many divisions. If the powers that be would move more teams up (like combine major+ and major) the major like teams would be able to compete with most of the teams in the division and on occasion maybe upset one of the big boys. Now they move up a few teams and feed them to the few monsters out there and they just get hammered. Not a sermon..just a thought!! |
Jan. 26 softball4b Men's 70 1250 posts | Home Run Rule Let's compromise. Freeze all teams at their ending level as of 09/01/08 until 11/01/09. Combine Major and Major + 11/01/09 all age groups. 6 HR hitters per game, hit as many as you want, others outs. 5 runs per inning and open inning. AAA 2 HR hitters per game, hit as many as you want, others outs. 5 runs per inning and open inning. |

Jan. 26 einstein Men's 50 3112 posts | Home Run Rule Wow Mike. I never thought about or heard limiting the HRs by who's hitting them. That's an interesting mind blower to me that's going to take a bit more thinking on my part to figure out what it would mean to the character/psyche of both players and the game. |
Jan. 26 softball4b Men's 70 1250 posts | Home Run Rule We did it in the Early 90's and it worked well. Pro Team/Dan Smith had a rule, the first 6 guys in the line up could hit them anytime. Once they went through the lineup twice, if there were any slots open then you could go for it. It made my day when the lineup had turned over twice and there were HRs left. |
Jan. 26 DoubleL10 Men's 70 907 posts | Home Run Rule Joe/Mike, Designated HR hitters was something used when I played USSSA back in the 90's. I believe we had 3 designated HR hitters back in '93 when Clyde Guy and Mark Canegallo played with us (Capital X-Ray Classics from VA).Needless to say, they got a LOT of walks. It did change the strategy of the games. |
Jan. 26 Dbax Men's 65 2101 posts | Home Run Rule If SSUSA wants to move Major teams to Major + and keep it competative, Make it 5 home runs, then 1 up. Our Major team seldom comes even close to hitting 10 home runs per game. Instead of moving Majors up, move Major + down. We could probably keep the game close if it was 5 and 1 up. |
Jan. 26 Jawood Men's 50 943 posts | Home Run Rule Designating homerun hitters was tried before in USSSA. It was a joke, teams would walk the HR hitters and pitch to the others. The one up rule is the best equalizer available. How many teams that are going to get bumped up to Major-plus will hit 10 homeruns in a game? We averaged 4.3 balls hit over the fence in 2008. This includes all hits over the fence whether they were counted as HR's or singles. There are so few Major-plus teams out there, would anyone had a problem if they would have just said that these teams need a place to play and they were going to join the Major class ... with Major rules? Now everyone is screwed! |
Jan. 27 Dbax Men's 65 2101 posts | Home Run Rule Exactly! |
Jan. 27 Player25 Men's 55 50 posts | Home Run Rule Dbax, Under your approach, what would the 6th ball over the fence be if the other team had hit less than 5? If they would would be singles/walks, then the moved up teams would have a tough row to hoe. |
Jan. 27 Dbax Men's 65 2101 posts | Home Run Rule I don't have any problem with making them singles. And I don't think anyone else would either. 10 homeruns are too many for most Major teams. Now I do admit that there are a few Major teams, that have no problem hitting 10 or more. Those are the ones that should be moved up. |
Jan. 27 Lecak Men's 60 1026 posts | Home Run Rule Dave what to do about the major plus who can't hit the 10 HR's do you just move them down. You and I both know most don't eyeball the team they either look at the ratings strictly and make assumptions amongst other stereotypes. It's a catch 22 either way move em up or move em down. I'm a simpleton but if you can give as good as you take then that is where you should be rated. Dave it is not all about the HR, hitting 10 HR's is just a percentage of what should be looked at. You and I have both seen teams with tremendous power who couldn't catch a cold. |
Jan. 27 Dbax Men's 65 2101 posts | Home Run Rule Joe, all I'm saying is 10 home runs are to many for our team and most Major teams. This is why they are Majors. If it was 5 and one up we could compete. There is no defense for the home runs. |
Jan. 27 Ken Men's 55 462 posts | Home Run Rule Guys, I’m not sure what is fair. We played 55 Major in Menifee last week and didn’t hit ANY home runs, and that’s pretty much what you’re going to see from us all the time. The other teams were trying to save their homers for the end of the game, so we were able to keep it close. It seems that the 5 and outs way just might keep it close for the major teams that have no power. We played a tournament in December with the 5 and then singles option and in one game, the other team must have hit a dozen out and killed us. I think it’s too early to tell. |
Jan. 27 Mr. Manassas 244 posts | Home Run Rule Again I suggest that a national registry of all senior teams be made and all scores against all team recorded. Use scoring potential as your guide. It is true that homeruns don't give the whole story, but also true that if a team can hit alot of homeruns that they will probably have a higher run potential than the team tha can't |
