June 4, 2009 Ken | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Midwest Championships Dave, what happened to the games That were supposed to be scheduled at Berens Park in Elmhurst. Did you lose the fields, or just not need that many? |
May 14, 2009 Ken | Topic: Rules of the game Discussion: PPR Ok, but if he uses the taser, are you allowed to use your glove and drop back to defend yourself? I can just see the bobbin' and weavin' now, lol. |
April 29, 2009 Ken | Topic: Tournaments Discussion: Don Newhard Don Newhard, Would you please call me at 805-630-9918 regarding the Escondito tournament this week-end. Thanks. Ken Lange Double Nickel |
April 9, 2009 Ken | Topic: Tournaments Discussion: Oxnard Gold Coast Spring Challenge - Results Men 55+ Phil, That's the week after Reno, and I doubt we'll get all our guys together for a back-to-back. We might be able to get a group of us from Thousand Oaks together to play in Oxnard, but they wouldn't all be 55's. It's possible. |
April 7, 2009 Ken | Topic: Tournaments Discussion: Oxnard Gold Coast Spring Challenge - Results Men 55+ Phil, thanks. It was a fun tournament. Good teams, and good competition. Mike, our tentative list of tournaments for the rest of the year are: Escondido Reno Santa Maria 7/5-6 Cal Cup LVSSA Paso Robles 9/27-28 (if no conflict with LVSSA) Phoenix Worlds Winter Worlds We wanted to do the SPA, but we aren’t sponsored, so that probably won’t happen. We may throw in another here and there, but to the best of my knowledge, that is it. By the way, I got this list from Andy, so if any dates are wrong, it’s his fault. See you guys soon. |
April 5, 2009 Ken | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: 55 Major Thanks John. Tax season is almost over, so we'll have to let Andy play again, lol. We're trying to get enough guys for Escondido, but we're son sure yet. See you guys soon. |
April 4, 2009 Ken | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: 55 Major Hey, #7, do you think that you were moved up because you won the SPA 50 AAA last year with your 55 team? You must be aware that associations use the results in other national tournaments to make their decisions. I don't think you have to worry about competing at the 55 major level. You'll do fine. |
April 3, 2009 Ken | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: 55 Major #7(you only get one#), For the record, I don't think Duke knows Einstein, nor do I. But I hear he is a good player and would welcome him on our team when we play you again. |
April 3, 2009 Ken | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: 55 Major JR, my response was triggered by a number of personal emails that I received saying they thought the guy was out of line in his comments. If what he said was the product of “a very dry wit”, then he has my apology. I hope we see you guys at a tournament this year. Unlike a lot of the teams in our division, we aren’t sponsored, so it’s kind of tough to go east. |
April 2, 2009 Ken | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: 55 Major JJ, that's true, but if he's going to say something about somebody, or brand a team as, basically, cheaters, he should get his facts straight. |
April 1, 2009 Ken | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: 55 Major The major division is a lot different now after all the move-ups, just like our team is different with the addition of new players. We never said we couldn’t compete at that level, just that there had to be a valid reason to move someone up. But your small-minded view of things probably won’t allow you to see all the changes in senior softball from last year. I see from where you are located what team you probably play for and, unlike some of the others from that team, you are a sore loser. Why not get all the facts before you spout off. Are all the teams that are complaining about the current crop of move-ups sandbaggers? I guess in your mind, they are. I think that if you don’t agree with something you should stand up for yourself and question the thinking behind the decision, rather than hide behind message board aliases. Get a life. |
April 1, 2009 Ken | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: 55 Major JJ, I know you are kidding, and what you are saying is at least half tongue-in-cheek, but when we were moved up last year, we were a new team that hadn’t won anything other than a couple of qualifiers by an average of 6 runs more than the opposition. You of all people, being on a team that won a few rings and continued to stay at AA, should know about sandbagging, lol. Right now, Phil Cobb’s team is going through the same thing. If a team is moved up, you have to have a valid, concrete basis for doing it, not just some arbitrary statistic like “6 run differential”. The opinions of other managers and tournament directors are more important that statistics. When a team is moved up, it should be because they are clearly better than the other teams in their class, not because you want the illusion of a better turnout at the upper division. |
March 31, 2009 Ken | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: 55 Major Thanks. What’s the old saying, even a blind pig finds an acorn every once in a while, lol. We played very well and beat a lot of good teams in a well run tournament. All the teams were evenly matched, and anybody could have won. Kudos to Dave. His fields are always run well. |
March 30, 2009 Ken | Topic: Tournaments Discussion: Midwest Championships Hey Gary, who are you kidding? The reason the tickets are expensive for the Cubs is that all the tourists want to see Wrigley before Daley condemns that joke of a field. They haven’t played major league baseball on the north side since the Babe was around. Win something and then talk. (Sorry about going off topic, but I couldn't let that remark go by without responding.) |
March 25, 2009 Ken | Topic: Tournaments Discussion: Midwest Championships Santo, I'm curious. Have you ever tried to get fields on a weekend in the Chicago area? I have, and take it from me, the Park Districts there are a pain to deal with. I used to run youth traveling baseball tournaments in Elmhurst, and they, like a lot of other towns, are very uncooperative. You have to know somebody and kiss the right butts to get anything from them. |
March 18, 2009 Ken | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Craig Gahring, Another good friend lost I don’t know what to say, I’m just blown away by this. Craig’s the second good friend from softball that I’ve lost in the last few months. We played together on the BaseHawgs teams for about 3 years. The last time I saw him was either December or January in Menifee, and he got a couple of nice hits against us. I will miss kidding with him on and off the field, and I’ll also miss the heart games with Sue. If anyone has any information on the services for Craig, please post a phone number or website. Thank you. Ken Lange Double Nickel |
March 11, 2009 Ken | Topic: Rules of the game Discussion: WHY THE PPR MUST GO Pencil something. |
March 10, 2009 Ken | Topic: Rules of the game Discussion: Protection for the pitcher The object of adding the extra fielder is to render the PPR redundant by eliminating the balls hit up the middle. If you are looking to get rid of a rule nobody wants, this is a better way than pitcher screens or pitchers having to "armor up". JMO |
March 10, 2009 Ken | Topic: Rules of the game Discussion: Protection for the pitcher Sal and Bob, this'll work fine. Right now, it's too easy to hit a weak grounder through the infield, especially up the middle. The players that can hit will have no problem. But, I think the guy should be able to play wherever he wants between SS and 2nd baseman (on the dirt). If you want to leave a big hole on one side, and the pitcher thinks he can cover it, he should be able to. Of course, with my team we would need to put all 4 guys behind the pitcher, lol. |
