One Major hic-up in the 50 majors.
Metro Stars out of VA were playing Willie Wolfs out of Texas. WW had nine players (they could hit) MS asked the home plate and 1st base umpires if the tenth spot is an out, because WW only has 9 players.
The umps says nope, not an out. Turns out it is an out. It was caught by some other umps watching the game. MS lost 23-22. By the time the game was protested, it was too late. Seems a shame to get knocked into the losers bracket because the umps didn't know the rule. And yes, if the tenth spot was an out, it would have changed the game.

SSUSA Rules may be a bit different than SPA rules, but in SSUSA sanctioned events, a team in the 50's may start a game with nine players. The last (10th) batting position would be an out only the first time through the lineup. And the team starting short-handed is able to add a 10th player, in the 10th spot in the batting order, at any time. (If the team gets down to nine players due to the tenth player being ejected, it's an out every time thru the batting order). See SSUSA 2010 Rulebook §§ 4.3(1) and 4.4 at pages 30-32.

All 16 teams in the 50 M division looked strong. Our (Kayson's) first loss was to Willie's Wolves and our second was to Mid-Atlantic. We lost to Mid-Atlantic by one run. Both were hard hitting teams!!
Jessie, you didn't ask how I'm doing!!;) In a collision earlier in the day with E-check I suffered a hyperextended right knee. I wasn't able to move laterally but it didn't affect my hitting or running to first. By our last game against Mid-Atlantic I was back to 90% of my movement.
This was a great tournament. I just wish our 60 M+ team could have hit better.
Both our my teams will be in Gallatin. I'll see many of you there!

2awesom,
Thank you for the congrats. Jack played well, ended the championship game with a specticular diving catch. The SPA ran a great tournament and I thought the competition was fierce. Great to see all my friends, Bogie, Einstein, Dutch, Ross, Clatter, Andy, and the rest. Hope all made it home safe. We will be in Manassas.
