Replacement Surgery
A friend of mine is considering shoulder replacement surgery. Any thoughts specific to this surgery? Age, type.

I've been told the same thing but I 'Googled' 'alternatives to shoulder replacement' and came up with shoulder re-surfacing. As it turns out, my primary orthopedist does them.
This is less invasive with a shorter rehab period. It leaves open the option of having a full replacement in the future.
I'm not opposed to replacements as I've had both hips replaced and they now work fine. I did investigate hip re-surfacing but did not find it to be a soltution for me.
I'd tell your friend to look into re-surfacing first.

My PT person says that shoulder replacement is not ready for prime time. They have issues with range of motion and it supposedly is limited so be careful. I asked about this and was told no by my surgeon. JMO....

I had mine done in Montrose, Colorado in November 09'. I played ball in Mesquite in February 10'. I have to work consistently with stretch bands but it is strong and I am well pleased with the work by Dr. Kelly Bynum in Montrose, Colorado. GOOD and Talented surgeon. I am 63 now.
