Discussion: Is THE ball or... having enough balls.

Joe, I feel you are genuine in your concern . Whether the ball, is a "game " changer or not, I don`t know . I have not hit it . If it is as bad as you say , then people will quit going to SSUSA tourneys and economics will decide its fate . The guys putting on these tourneys are not doing so out the goodness of there hearts . It is a business to them . If the ball drops attendance , they will drop it . Pure and simple .They will have no choice . Some entrepenur will give the players what they want . The masses will go with them . Hopefully NCSSA will stay with what we have . Playing NorCal , with a couple of SoCal tourneys thrown in isn`t the worst thing that could happen . Playing Ca. teams only ,is plenty competitive enought to satisfy anyones need to compete at a high level . I appreciate your zeal . Whether or not it was needed , time will tell . This could provide quite an opportunity for a "customer" friendly organization . The bottom line is , "if you don`t like the restaurant , go to another one ". JB

Lecak . E-mail the coach of a new NorCal Major Plus team " 5 Spot" at 1adobe1@sbcglobal.net . We are planning on playing Rocking Reno , Cal Cup , Phoenix and Winter Vegas . Could add another if we get enough teams for it . Thanks

Discussion: BAN THE ULTRA

Trump-I am starting to detect a smugness about who the "real hitters are and who isn``t " in your posts . If i am reading you wrong , then I apologize . If everyone is using these bats , what is the big deal ? I know that it keeps a lot of the 60 and overs in the game .Everyone is on equal footing . If someone , that isn`t deemed to be a homerun hitter hits an occasional homerun ,or some base hitter hits a gapper , big deal . Good for him . Keeps him interested and keeps enough guys comming out to give us more teams to play .In a perfect world everyone would just be happy to be playing . But , as we know , this isn`t a perfect world .If they get rid of these bats ,then as some guys have said , we will end up with the shaved bats , that are rampant with the younger guys . Since these bats last about 1/3 to 1/2 as long as a normal bat . I don`t know if the bat companies are deep down really too concerned anyway . In reality , these bats , create more sales for them . My opinion of course .Keeping enough guys interested in the game to maintain a healthy amount of teams. Is worth hurting the ego of some of the" true" homerun hitters . I kow a guy ,(290 lb. weight lifter ) , hat I used to play with , that quit playing when composites first came out . He said it wasn`t enjoyable to him now that normal size guys were able to hit homeruns . He only enjoyed playing because of the praise he got for being better than mere mortals . I told him he was only hurting himself . Didn`t do anygood . He no longer plays and softball survived . Without the masses we have no game . The true super hitters are still very apparent to all of us that play this game .They are not diminished by using an Ultra 11 .They are still admired for there ability . Just as they woul be using any kind of bat . What is the big deal here ?

It is my understanding that the new balls will be 47 cor 300 comp. A 40/275 ball will actually go better than a 44/375 . The lower cor is not as flexible so it allows the compression to be more of a factor . that is the reason the new senior ball , if I remember correctly , will be a hiher COR and a lower compression . This combination will counter effect the senior bats the best . This is their intention . JB

Trump . I have a 28 oz. Have about 400 hits on it . I prefer it to the Ultra when it is above 90 degrees . If you are the type of hitter that benefits from an endload you will get as much from it as you are from the Ultra 11 . It was a 104 degrees here the other day and the senior combat and the ultra were compromised by the softballs . But , the freak was still going yard . JB

Einstein . I think you speak for the majority . Keep it up . Don`t let them cram a situation down our throats , that takes the enjoyment out of the game . I am sure we all have enough meddlers in other parts of our lives and we don`t need it in Softball . Who is complaining about the current situation and why ? What is their motivation ? Let the reps get feed back from their areas and see what the majority wants . I can and will live with that decision . Joe , keep it up .

Trump , if you hit the 44/375 ball as far with an aluminum bat as you do with a senior bat ,then you are not even close to being representative of 98 % of the people that play the senior game . It would completely change the current game . Wether or not that is good or bad is up to the individual to decide . Also , the fact ,that most senior tournament players don`t consider these tournaments as " recreational ". Is good for your co`s and every other softball co`s bottom line . It is human nature to try and gain any advantage you can in a competition . If most didn`t consider their games as serious competition , they would not fork over the dollars ,that they do for the best equipment . My personal opinion is go back to the aluminum bat and the 47/500 balls .

Easton and DeMarini will also have senior bats this year . Easton has the nano constuction which allows their walls to be thinner and still hold up . I think that their senior bat could give everyone a run for there money . JB

Stoneman . Thanks . I thought they were referring to the top hand . I already drop two fingers off of the bottom and only use three fingers of the top hand . Started doing this a year ago and noticed about 20 more feet .

The 50 Major division is dissapointing Not any teams except ODB`s And MTC . Not worth the effort . I for one am going to call the coach and recommend we take a pass on the tourney . Unbelievable , that there is this small amount of interest .
