There are a few reasons you see older retired people doing Senior softball 1 A lot of the tournaments are played or started on weekdays. It would be hard to use the old guys on Thursday and Friday then say you are not good enough to work Saturday and Sundays so the TD has to have umps to cover all games if he sent them home on Saturday the next time he asked them to umpire they would say STICK IT 2 The younger umpires are not coming out and umpire Senior slowpitch games that last for about an hour and 20 minutes or more for $20 or $25 dollars when they can do girls fastpitch games with an hour 15 minute time limit for $36 dollars or a boys baseball game with an hour 40 minute time limit for $40.00. The old guys are not asked to do the baseball and fp because they are not as good or knowledgeable and are not asked to do it or you would not have them either. It a lot about the amount of money you can make on a weekend for the younger guys Slowpitch weekend $225 maybe Fastpitch weekend easily $300.00 Baseball easily $400.00 with the same amount or less time invested |

All I have ever seen is 4 ft forward from the middle of the plate and 3 ft back. Except in usssa it is 3 up and 2 1/2 back.if it is 3 up the foul lines will not intersect with the batters box correctly |

He took the knob off put an air valve in the end of the bat put 70lbs of air pressure in the bat and sealed the knob back on. That worked about as well as hitting with a wet noodle/ We had a team from the next league over that was well know for cutting the handle and adding about a two inch piece onto the handle to make the bat longer. |

Therefore the run would not count, he never reached 1st base safely Same scenerio is if bases are loaded two outs. Batter hits a double runner on 1st misses 2nd and after all play has ceased the defense appeals the runner that was on 1st misses 2nd that would be the 3rd out on a force play and no runs would count. Now if the batter runner hits a triple and misses 2nd all runs would count because the runner missing 2nd would not be a force out because he was not forced to second because a batter runner forced him to move up. Guys I think a lot of you are over thinking this. An appeal play is not a force except when the runner missed the next base he was forced too. |

Actually he never reached first base safe so if there was two outs the run would not count. I do not believe the run would count. Would be the same if he missed first and went to second dead ball appeal that he missed 1st then the run would not count that is not a time play No argueing just not the way I understand it. With two outs the batter runner must reach 1st base safe before the run can count. with an appeal it means he never made 1st base |

As this would still be a force second play: if it is a force out at second than no the run would not count, However if it was not a force play. and defense appeals runner missing second then run would count Come on Stick let them know |

Not sure about SSUSA. If a runner missed 2nd base and went to third the cutoff man is standing on second and catches the ball but does not appeal the umpire does not call him out WHY because he has considered touching the base unless you have an appeal. Just as above once the runner crosses the base he has assumed to have touched the base unless appealed. Glad you brought that one up good discussion will ensure LOL |

Not sure about Senior softball but ASA Rule states I am almost sure ASA changed the rule about 3 years ago that a mitt can be worn by any player ASA Rule 3-4 A Glove/Mitt may be worn by any player. The dimensions of any glove/mitt used by any fielder shall not exceed the specifications set forth below (see drawing and specifications). (Fast pitch) The Pitcher's glove may be of one solid color or multicolored as long as the color(s) are not the color of the ball being used in the game. NFHS Rule 1-4 Art. 1...Gloves/mitts shall: a. Be a maximum of two colors excluding lacing and manufacturer's logo colors. Lacing shall not be the color of the ball. b. Not be entirely gray, white or optic in color. c. Not have a gray, white or optic colored marking on the outside or inside that gives the appearance of the ball. d. Be permitted to have one American flag not to exceed 2 inches by 3 inches. e. Not be judged as distracting by the umpire. |
| April 29, 2015 Garocket | Topic: Rules of the game Discussion: obstructed base I think you would have to revert back to Rule 10 section 1 in the ASA rule book. because I have looked in all 4 association rule book ASA NSA USSSA ISA and none of them covers that play. But the rule 10 of ASA does say The plate umpire shall have the authority to make decisions on any situation not specifically covered in the rules.. This is not covered so you would have to live with his decision. I would hope since the obstruction caused the player to miss the base, that the umpire would call him safe. If not I would have my second baseman to obstruct every runner that came by and get some easy outs. |
| April 21, 2015 Garocket | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Breakaway Bases Don't go to the trouble, they are a safer on slides but slow the game down a lot. when you slide into a base most of the time you will have to stop the game and make sure you brush the bottom pan off or the base will pop off real easy even on a runner going from 1st to third. Or the other kind with the square pan in the ground every time someone slids you have to stop the game and get the infield dirt out of the bottom pan, so the base will fit down in the female anchor. |

All young boy ball does is complain about fields, umpires and driving distance. Young boy ball wants the Motel at the back of the parking lot. Try Atlanta sometimes the field is 4 miles away but takes 45 minutes to get there because of traffic. Give me the drive from Mesquite to St George any day. Beautiful drive and you more than likely just saved abourt $120.00 on Motel rooms by staying in Meaquite |
