Discussion: Why are teams not rated the same in USSA SPA ISSA

Thank you ussa staff but the answer I was wanting is what Rabbit is saying and what are the current up-to-date ratings as have heard some that were moved up in December have already been moved down.

Discussion: Why are teams not rated the same in USSA SPA ISSA

I thought that all of these were part of the group that set the rules for the game. If they can not get teams rated the same then how can they expect the teams to understand there reasoning behind there rules and want to play by the rules. That being said I was talking about what rating they should be in when they go to tournaments. This would greatly level the playing field when you know who should be there and in your bracket. I know that teams bitch and moan about what division they are in but if you have players that have played major plus all there time they should be mp same goes for the rest of the divisions. And if you win major tournaments then you should be glad to move up and at least try. After that year you can get rerated if you have played and at least tried to compete which we have done a few times. I know most players and sponsors will say we are wasting our money but they should be proud that they were good enough to win and love the chance to compete against good competition.

Do you really believe that a 63 year old can compete day in and day out with a 56 year old player he may be able to hit but playing all day there is no way he has the stamina that a 56 year old has this also would apply to the 64-70 the other age group could possibly work.

Most of the guys you are talking about do alot of lifting and hitting to make sure they stay on top of their game. So as I stated above let these gentlemen start there own league more or less like they used to have and that way they can make there own rules and not have be limited as I believe Sparky had suggested when you have the bucks and want to spend them that is up to you.

Discussion: Time to eliminate senior bats

I remember when I first played slow pitch I had moved from Ill and had played fastpitch and we used wooden bats so when I started slow pitch all I had was a wooden bat but soon realized that metal was so much better to hit with. I have hit alot more homeruns with the dave carrol and bombats than I have with the new bats but I have not been asked to do so in several years. I still like the older bats with a 47/52 ball. We also played on 270 foot fences when we got to play at major complexes other wise it was baseball fields. I dont remember ever breaking one of these bats it just got old and lost its pop. But could still use in batting pratice and didnt have to worry about breaking the bat in. So when they talk about breaking bats 2-4 times a year would it not be wise to go backwads a little and I now what most are going to say the bat makers would never let this happen as they make to much money with all the home run hitters breaking bats. I just wanted to write because this is all that you read about. The major plus let them do what they want like we did before there was all of these rules and regulations let them get who they want if they have the money like they did in the 60s-80s. Then all players will be happy as they will not bother our game.

I do not think that most 65s would like to play a 58 year old team. They may be able to hit with them but the difference is in the defense with the speed and movement of the players. If the players are rated correctly and the tourneys are checked correctly you would probably have more teams. I know most teams don't have a person paying there way so they have to pick and choose closer to home and play a couple or so larger tourneys so that is why there are a lot of small tourneys with not very many teams and the combining of some of the tournaments and why you play each other so many times during the year. Most of us play for the exercise and the competion as we all want to stay healthy and live as long as we can.

Indiana Legends have a great team and great gentlemen. We could not come close to matching them with the home run power that they have as we found out when we moved from the field that the wind was blowing in on. They are a great champion and should not have a problem matching up with any major team with homers and play great defense.

Yes it is a rec sport till you get a bad hop or a line drive up the middle. As most people state when you get past the age of 60 your reflexes slow down a little. So why take a chance of getting hurt when a little protection can help. I have never worn any before but a small health problem makes it worth while. I appreciate the answers that were given and I will check this out as I dont want anything bulky.

Would like some input on protection of shirts have looked at a EXO Armour preformance shirt but would like to see if anyone has one. I have checked out EVO and others but does not really protect the liver area. So any positive input would be appreciated.

Beasley is correct about how to build a AAA team. But I also believe that each player should be rated. With this being said if you win a national every player should be rated to the next level of play for at least the next year and possibly cut out the breaking of teams. I believe that there was some rules in the upper divisions that say you can have so many major plus on a major team But I dont know for sure. I think that if you are rated you should play in that division and with teams playing tournaments the games and batting information could be caculated by the home office and be a factor in the rating of a player. This is not hard to do as the computer does all the work except for inputing the information. I guess the only question would be the critier for each player in each division of play.

Steve 27 why was it such a bad rule you didnt have pitchers getting lit up the middle as much even though there usually was not a home run limit. But it still gave the pitcher an edge and you needed it with the hot balls and just the metal bats not including the titanium that came out.

Jarwood I do not know when you started but I can remember when they played with the red and green dot balls and teams would still fix the metal bats so they could try and show off how far they could hit a homerun. To me that didnt take much talent when the balls were like baseballs any way.

Yes I played when there was unlimited arc and does not seem that long ago so I would really like to see how the other half that is playing would be able to handle it. We also had some wood bats for a while then we got the metal bats and it really was nice hitting the 52 and so on balls and playing on the 280-290 foot fences.

I would like to also point out that the 1-1 count is a good thing for the pitcher and would like to also see the mat larger as this would also help protect the pitcher as the ones that just miss would be a strike and alot of us just miss and with the wind blowing sometimes it is hard to control.
We all played ball in the time of unlimited arc and I would like to see it go to the 15ft level and with the extended box this will also help us.

Wow what an idea this sure would make teams really consider what division they play only thing is if both teams hit all 3 then both teams would have the extra fielder so it would be fair. The only question is would they go head hunting early so as not to be in that situation?

Discussion: Tournament in Panama City, October 19-21

I know that the Florida Half Century is a big deal in Fla but I would want to play in a National Tournament unless this is there National for Half Century. I respect every team as to where they want to play. I also know that this will be there first Winter National as far as I know in a few years other than the younger age. So I hope that we will see some good competion in Panama City.

The Georgia/Alabama team is going and hope that some of the teams playing Penscola will use this tournament so they can get some playing time with the new players that some teams will be picking up and also to see what they will need for the coming year. This is also the winter nationals for this organization. We hope to see you all there and have some fun in Panama City as we have not played there for sometime.
