| Dec. 29 Brett Men's 55 239 posts | The Midwest Championships should be held in KC at the Mid-America Sports Complex (Shawnee, KS). There are ten 300-foot fields and the complex drains exceptionally well in the event of rain - second to none. After having played in Schaumburg last year and Champaign the year before, I would much prefer it to be at a complex where rain is rarely a factor. I for one am tired of traveling to play in rain-shortened tournaments or cancelled tournaments. The 'powers at be' have historically done a very poor job of choosing the complexes where these tournament are played at. Yes, I know it's all about money for the one's putting on the tournaments. However, it is not fair to teams/players that pay large amounts of travel money to end up playing in rain-shortened tournaments. This happened with our team 6 times last year. |

Seven excellent fields, interstate highways just a short distance from the fields, good umps and Rudy runs a great tourney and is always present if you have a question and is much more centraly located. KC would be a major travel event for the teams east of Illinois. $$$ is becoming more and more an issue for long distance travel. |

| Jan. 1 berger Men's 70 66 posts | smooth01, couldn't agree with you more....especially when the only other SSUSA tournament going on that weekend is the Western Nationals -- that appears to have been moved to Lacy, WA this year (from Salt Lake City last year). Having the Western Nationals in the very Northwest corner of the US doesn't make a lot of sense either, but KC is more "midwest" than Champaign (for any sort of Midwest Regional, or Championship, tournament). There is a SPA tournament in Columbus, OH July 15-18. |

South Dakota being one of the Northern Plains states is part of the Midwest. States of the Midwest: Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota, and Wisconsin. |

Teams to the north and east probably could add 2 to 4 hours in drive time but would go also. Don't think I could sit in a vehicle that long. Going down would maybe be ok, but that long drive back if you lose would be a bear. |

| Jan. 8 Ho 301 posts | I think UMBACH is probably right..Actually doubt if many Indiana teams (500 miles),Chicago (420), Cleveland (700) and maybe Wisconsin (400) will drive there. Why? They have a big SPA tournament in Columbus, Ohio July 15 which is within 250 miles or they can wait and attend The Northern Championship in Lansing in August, also within 300 miles. Of course the turnout at Schaumburg wasn't that great last year which was close to Indiana, Ohio, Illinois and Wisconsin...which is probably why KANSAS got the nod. Maybe the problem is SSUSA needs a Great Lakes Tournament, since they can't decide what constitutes the mid-west and that way they could have one within 7-to-8 hours driving time for everyone Based on the huge tournout SPA draws in Columbus each July, SSUSA may be wise to consider adding a Great Lakes Tournament in Dayton. |
