| April 27 #6 Men's 60 1173 posts | SPA TOURNAMENT IN BAYTOWN THIS PAST WEEKEND I attended the Spa tournament this past weekend in Baytown........before I completely go insane on Spa.....I would like to know from teams that played there what they thought of the tournament ! |
| April 27 mad dog Men's 65 4191 posts | r kenny what happen down there,SOS.i couldn't make it b/c of no $ to play with. if we have to play the fri,sat,sun for the 60's i think its gonna cut down on the teams that can show to play b/c of the time off from work guys have to take.we are the only age bracket that has to put in for 3 days motel/hotel stays where the other age brackets only have to do 2 days. |
| April 27 LP 317 posts | r mad dog the 60's did play only two days,fri. & sat. but that is why my team didnt go there to many guys work on friday and they save there time to go to a couple of out of state tournaments. and to #6 you know who i played for there so heres my thoughts on the tournament. things were fine friday,but sat. had a new set of rules, that we werent told about till after a couple of games,had everyone confused,caused our team to play two less innings and #6 you all played one less inning cause of these rule changes. so might have changed the out come of both games. SPA was not on the same page as the teams. you make the call #6 if it was a good tournament! |
| April 27 JBTexas Men's 70 434 posts | r #6,change in rules for Saturday was a big problem, if the umpires had a meeting before we started on saturday about the changes how come they used three sets of rules for the 8AM games then changed for the 10AM games. We got lucky with the weather, overall had a good time, even if we didn't play great. See you all in georgetown, thanks LP for the help. |
| April 27 #6 Men's 60 1173 posts | r mad dog, pretty much like LP said.Rules changing, the little black lady ump we had, HAD NO CLUE OF THE RULES,SHE WAS ONE OF, IF THE WORST I HAVE EVER SEEN !!! JBTexas, see you in Georgetown. Yes it was fun, it was fun just to get to play. LP, really good to see you again ! WAS OUR LAST SPA TOURNAMENT WE ARE PLAYING !!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
| April 28 J R 251 posts | r SPA did a good job rules were in place.The problem was the local umpires did not have a clue. SPA should change the hiring of local umpires. Local umpires were hired, and i agree they were clueless. Once teams asked the umpire in charge he corrected problems.Had managers read the rulle book they could have. informed the umpires. Most managers did not know no clock in tournament.Just in pool games. |

| April 28 Capt Kirk 541 posts | r The TD has the discretion to change the policy on time limits for tournament play: Sec 9 TIME LIMIT: A time limit of one hour will be used only in pool play. The game clock will be started when the home plate umpire takes his position, and declares “Play ball” to begin the first inning. When the game has been played one hour, the home plate umpire will stop the game and notify the teams that they will finish that inning and play one additional inning. In double elimination there is no time limit in SPA sanctioned events. No game can end in a tie, if tied at the end of the last declared/regulation inning. The game must continue using the international tie breaker rule. The Tournament Director, and SPA National Headquarters reserve the right to make any changes to this policy depending on tournament format, number of available fields, weather conditions, park curfew,etc. |
| April 28 SOFTBALL6 18 posts | r I play for the LA Legends and as a whole, even though we won the 60 Div championship, we were very disappointed in the quality of the umpiring. I agree with JR, the use of local umpires caused a lot of problems. Not only did they not know the rules, but there were several incidents of some home cooking for the local team. When an umpire calls the players by their first name, you can bet there will be favoritism. Having said that, I think Lonnie and his crew did their best to give us a good tourney. The weather turned out great and all the teams we played had super guys on them. Getting together with good guys and playing a game we all love is what it is all about. I will say it does feel better when your win. LOL. Congradulations to all the teams that participated. |

I don't know how ya'll came back and won, it was hot and ya'll played alot in the heat with not any extra players. I play SS for Tanel360/Bud Light Of Austin and we all think your a great team and congraulations on the win. Will see you down the road and glad ya'll got home safe. Take Care, #6 |

| April 29 PlanoPlayer Men's 65 72 posts | r We played the 50 Major in Baytown this past weekend. The umpire in charge knew what he was doing but the umpiring in our games were very bad. Probably the worst I have seen in some time. Other than that, Layla and SPA put on a pretty good tournament, for the 50 Major anyway. |
