Nov. 30 gary c 418 posts | Just heard they are outlawing all composite bats in Oxnard and Camarillo California . I am not sure this is true but someone who plays in both cities told me this. Anyone who knows about this please let us know. The word is to many injuries. I am not sure but would like to know if this is true |
Nov. 30 einstein Men's 50 3112 posts | Disingenuous propaganda from nobody in disguise. Seems our ranting, disrespecting nobody is someone after all, with an axe to grind and pressing an agenda. Who could it be... |
Nov. 30 Capt Kirk 541 posts | It is common knowledge that city leagues have banned the hot composite bats, if your bat doesn't have a ASA approved label, you are SOL in the city leagues. I was told by a player who played in the Las Vegas Tournament that they were playing on 70' bases, any truth to that? |
Nov. 30 DMac Men's 60 207 posts | Burbank has banned composites in all leagues except seniors. Single wall or wood starting in January. |
Nov. 30 mad dog Men's 65 4191 posts | gary c they are doing it all over the country.also heard from a guy who lives in santa maria that fast pitch bats will no longer be allowed in SCAMF(SOCAL ASSOC).they say they aren't supposed to be used in slowpitch as they are hotter, yeah right, sounds like something the VI would say, just talk with no facts. all i got to say is the cheaters brought it on themselves, for bats to be banned. |
Nov. 30 einstein Men's 50 3112 posts | "The world's an immoral pit of cheating, distress and turmoil and nothing can save it. It's disgusting and out of hand. Only we, the truly enlightened and righteous can lead the ignorant masses to safety and prosperity if you just surrender your folly and follow us." Sound familiar? Sounds a lot like Nazi thinking to me and as I remember from those riveting documentaries and some reading on the subject there were costumes and badges everywhere. True identities didn't matter and were discarded like old cardboard. There was no sense of the inherent positivity, goodness and worth of people just engaged in a struggle for their own identity looking for inclusive albeit difficult solutions to life's frustrations and demands. They played on the turmoil, FEAR and conflicts of the time to advance their own agenda and self interest at the sacrifice of integrity and truth. Disingenuous propaganda was the order of their day. And they never broke one law or rule. Yet, they took advantage of the society while the public was distracted, unfocused and sleeping. Hmmmmmmmmmmmm. Lively bats and balls, forever. |
Nov. 30 mad dog Men's 65 4191 posts | cliff notes please,the VI is posting again..... |
Nov. 30 Marv19 Men's 60 498 posts | Gary C It just didn't happen over night. I posted this a few months back that Oxnard as well as others are dropping carbon fiber bats. The main reason or cause is the cheating that goes on by juicing the bats. The biggest bat shaver is in phoenix and he drives a new Corvette. That should tell you about the size of the cheating. It even filters down to Little League. Unless it stops all Carbon Fiber bats will be in jepardy. There is a fix and it will be out on spring. We will try to keep you posted but its a patented item that will prohibit cheating for good. |
Nov. 30 einstein Men's 50 3112 posts | Hope springs eternal. Good Marv. Let's hope the light at the end of the tunnel isn't another train. We need to play with lively bats and balls, period. The whole argument turns on what's really going on and what IS really going on from my research, experience and understanding is that players are fundamentally fair-minded because any contest this isn't fair brings no true glory, accomplishment or satisfaction and is therefore, self defeating and self limiting. Guys have "learned" to get and use hotter bats to insure they have a good time and to make sure they don't get punked when/if the "other" guys pull out hotter bats. It's the same fundamental mentality about going after a pitcher only when they go after yours. By busting guys who do shave and end load bats and making sure that the bat ball combo is good to begin with cheating will be rendered meaningfully non-existent. That's so good and true it's gotta be repeated. By busting guys who do shave and end load bats and making sure that the bat ball combo is good to begin with cheating will be meaningfully non-existent. This whole movement to dumb-down the bat ball combo is situational, opportunistic, self interested and NEGATIVE as it assumes we/players are fundamentally dishonest which we ARE not and/or that we/our community is incapable of developing a positive and winning resolution for any issues we might have. It's a movement that in terms of who we are AND our game is negative to/for both. So, the movement to dumb-down the bat/ball combo is negative for softball and the players, by assumption and opportunistic and self interested at best and not from/of the heart and soul of the game we love to play. |
Nov. 30 birdie Men's 70 802 posts | To All, I do know that all the leagues here in No Virginia have been using ASA approved bats for years. The freak (Green)bat was disallowed whenever the ASA put it on the ban list. That is just the way it is here. I was visiting a friend in Indianapolis and was surprise to see that their league using non approved ASA bats. I have been under the impression that all leagues used ASA approved equipment. I guess that I was wrong. I think that is why I enjoy the bats and ball combination in senior tournaments. I play with nothing but ASA equipment in the leagues and get my quota there. Thanks Harry |
Nov. 30 curveball Men's 65 705 posts | Capt Kirk, we used long bases in LV for sure; and, we have used longer bases in LV for quite a few tourneys. Palm Springs Senior League still uses SSUSA bat rules. |
Nov. 30 DoubleL10 Men's 70 907 posts | I played in the Harris County Senior Softball League through 2008 and we used Ultra IIs, etc. in that League. I have several friends who still play in the league which, by the way, is now SSUSA, and they still use all senior bats. The senior league I play in now in Oklahoma City is a USSSA league and we swing those bats up here. |
Nov. 30 DoubleL10 Men's 70 907 posts | As information, the Harris County Senior Softball League is in Houston. |
Nov. 30 gary c 418 posts | Joey don't get you panties in a bunch. I just asked if anyone had heard the same as me. You should watch how you throw around the word NAZI. When you throw the word around so loosley you take away the evil in the word . As an educator I think you would know better. |
Nov. 30 Dbax Men's 65 2101 posts | Capt. Kirk, we did play on 70' bases in Vegas. In my opinion it vastly improved the game. Double plays were turned, defense was improved all around. |
Dec. 1 #6 Men's 60 1173 posts | Guys, If you want, go to:capitalcitysoftball.com, go to where you can find the non approved bats, this will show you the list we have to play with and use here in Austin. |
Dec. 1 Webbie25 Men's 70 2414 posts | Capt Kirk-Yes on the 70' bases and 53' mound. It was great-brought the infield back into it a little more, and fewer 'gimmee' doubles. It is on the agenda at Tucson and I am solidly for it. |
Dec. 1 Webbie25 Men's 70 2414 posts | If they are banning all 'composites'-that takes out a lot of bats-pretty much what I have been saying-that we need to go back to the EST or Techfires or the like and bring the good ball back, the 47/525. We had a good and lively game at that level, but playable defensively. |
Dec. 1 madsenior 54 posts | The ICAP will be out in the spring and will end the shaving issue and concerns. It will also allow composites to return. I have heard many Parks and Rec's are going to make bats have an Icap. |
Dec. 1 JBTexas Men's 70 434 posts | CaptKirk, playing infield 70 ft bases were great, as a runner I didn't like it takes a lot doubles and triples out of the game. To me it looks like it cause a lot more ball up the middle(at the pitcher) then before. we has a team got a couple pitchers upset with those type hits. 70ft bases may not have been the cause, I lean more to the windy conditions and not wanting get behind in the count and have to swing at a ??? ball. |
Dec. 1 mad dog Men's 65 4191 posts | MS,i have heard of this and it is a good idea, but the prol will be a lot of players(all ages) will drop b/c they'll have to buy new bats,i know i'll have to get new ones as all mine are the older variety, pre 2008.instead of buying new i can see more dropping the sport than to have to spend more money for new tamper proof bats.most likely won't effect the senior group,as we don't cheat(shaveing ,rolling or end-loading our bats),LOL...yeah right... as far as stopping the cheaters, well they'll find a way around it,thats why they are cheaters...... also hear that by 2012 we will need to have new bats for most of the assoc's.that will prolly be my last year(2011) of playing if i'm required to buy new equipment for 2012. |
Dec. 1 DCPete 409 posts | Metal bats with the old 47/525 Dudley Red Thunder probably would be a good bat/ball combo for senior softball, but our litigious society will never, ever allow us to use a harder ball than the current 375 & 275 compressions even if you're using a broomstick to hit with. And banning composites with the current balls would cause interest & participation to crater far below that of even current ASA tournaments. However, the status quo could be improved by A) going to the 15' or unlimited arc B) going to the 1 - 1 count & C) raising the 300' fences to 25' or higher. |
Dec. 1 Marv19 Men's 60 498 posts | The new anti tamper proof device is a retro fit product. Should be around $25. Its patented and will be out in spring. After it's out it will take some lobbying to the various organisations and cities. But it will revolutionize the game. Its main goal is to get carbon fiber bats back on track at the NCAA and second to eliminate the cheating that goes on. It will even detect a crack in your bat before you even know they're there. Contrary to popular myth all carbon fiber bats crack or break. It's just a matter of when. Most bats so called hot out of the wrapper are the most venerable due to the shorter curve. The longer break in bats last longer as the curve is longer. Presently the GBA has a 300 hit break in so you read into this what you will :O) |
Dec. 1 Wes Men's 65 335 posts | My goal is to hit 1,000 by hitting the ball about 10 foot over the head of the second and third baseman---I can do that with a wood bat Wes |
Dec. 1 FOFO Men's 60 284 posts | I've seen more and more tournaments where bats are supplied by the director. This may be the answer. Probably mean higher tournamet prices but would eliminate cheating |
Dec. 2 gary c 418 posts | Just found out not only composite but double wall bats are going to be outlawed in Oxnard and most likely in surrounding cities as of January 1st. Injuries and afraid of lawsuits |
Dec. 2 Corky Men's 55 451 posts | Birdie: Your right........here in Indy we're still swingin the Ultra's and Combats......Haven't heard of any changes so far.....(Pitching screen is Optional) |
Dec. 2 einstein Men's 50 3112 posts | Gary C for Characterless, coward, clown. You're close to a lot of info like someone who has a huge interest and investment in the new bat/ball combo and has had a lot to do with the movement to dumb down our equipment. Now who could that be... Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. |
Dec. 2 taits Men's 65 4548 posts | Fofo, There are many problems with that idea but it was mentioned long ago. Not only additional fee cost for the T's but transport cost and getting them to the different parks and fields with what ever bat weight is decided upon. Not to forget the lost in flight screw ups. There is another problem, not every one stings the same weight. Somehow I just can't imaging the problems with supplying bats for 24 fields and 48 dug outs. Left alone moving them around from being stored during off season. If cities change the bat standard, so be it at least we will be equal there having access to what ever it they are. Same for the ball. There is so much crap about nothing going on here. You are not going to change anything as long as you attend. All assn's are counting on that, and I'd bet you will attend. |
Dec. 2 mad dog Men's 65 4191 posts | how ya like that,a cheater trying to call someone out,go figure cheater joey... |
Dec. 2 Omar Khayyam 1357 posts | How about this for bats. Each team supplies its opponents the bats! Have to be a variety of weight and balanced as well as end loaded, but the team picks what bats it gives its opponents! Nahh, it will never work. Calls for good sportsmanship. |
Dec. 2 mad dog Men's 65 4191 posts | i like the tourney supplied ones, just put them in a rack at the backstop, both teams use the same bats.take a poll as to what most all use and the weights they like and get those. than add in 1 or 2 of the not so liked ones for the others that do.maybe a bat sponsor could supply the bats for the big tourney's.. |
Dec. 2 gary c 418 posts | Gary C for Characterless, coward, clown. You're close to a lot of info like someone who has a huge interest and investment in the new bat/ball combo and has had a lot to do with the movement to dumb down our equipment. Now who could that be... Frisco Joey or should I call you CHEATER JOE why are you going nuts oh I know why YOU ARE WRONG! |
Dec. 2 einstein Men's 50 3112 posts | At least we know what the C stands for loud and clear. |
Dec. 3 #6 Men's 60 1173 posts | How about I buy and use my bat and you buy and use your bat, if you get caught with a illegal one, then you pay ther price, whatever that price is ! I am sorry guys, but I like to just play ball......... |
Dec. 3 gary c 418 posts | But do you like CHEATERS? |
Dec. 3 #6 Men's 60 1173 posts | If you can read, I said if they get caught, THEY pay the price for cheating. No I don't like cheaters !!! |
Dec. 3 taits Men's 65 4548 posts | They don't go looking, let alone check or know what to look for. |
Dec. 3 #6 Men's 60 1173 posts | taits, I agree....I am just saying,play ball in 2011 and if they cheat and get caught...then that's up to who catches them, you and I don't cheat, so let's play ball ! |
