What if tournament: I'm need some good feedback. There is a lot of talk about teams being rated into the M+ status and not having anyone to play more often. What if in a regional tournament there was a bracket that was called say ''The Pro Bracket''. It was made up of 50s and 55s. The only requirement was a drivers license to prove age. It would be an unrestricted roster super division. This would be a big money bracket with a large pay out. We have a couple of teams like that down here so I'm curious about some feedback from other teams in the upper end category. Let me know what you think.

sounds like a good idea, what about one of those div per age group,or what about this break down of ages...
49-57
58-65
66 on up.
i really don't think you would need much for over 70,but hey i might be mistaken, what about it you guys over 70.

mad dog-I proposed that age division for M+ at the national meeting last year-still think it would help. They would have to waive the rule that once you play M+ you can't go back to AAA.

I believe if you want the major+ division to grow in number you have to keep the same few teams from dominating year after year.

I think the major+problem is the current ranking system stops regulating players at the major+ level.

Maybe something like this would help?

1) As soon as your a player that PLAYED on a team that won a major + world title your put on a champions list.

2) Not more then (pick the number I'd say) four champion list players are allowed to play on any major + team.

3) When you two years into the next age group your removed from the "champions list".

How about just make more teams Major-plus or combine Major and Major-plus? The top 6 to 8 Major teams can easily compete with Major-plus. Some teams would still carry a "+" by their name and when a Major plays a +, they can take 5 runs but have to hit with the Major-plus HR rule OR not take the runs and can play with their HR rule. Teams that have to give runs AND play to a lower teams HR rule lose more often than not. A good equalizer is one where both divisions win at a 50-50 split.

Tim, I agree with your ideas but if you were to implement them then you'd have to do away with the bordering states rule. Jawood's idea combining major and major plus is probably easier to implement. The main reason is because there aren't as many teams at the major-major plus level that players can choose from within those bordering states. What seems to be happening in senior softball is it's going the same way as the USSSA mens program. Not all but I believe some teams are playing lower then they should and aren't that eager to play up.

Also, opening up the borders would allow big money sponsors (the few that there are) to buy players to come to their teams. We don't need that!

So What if: There was a tournament that had an ''Open Pro Division''. This division was for 50s and 55s. It was for big bucks first place and half big bucks for second. It was an open division in that the roster was completely unrestricted. How many Major and Major plus teams would be interested in this?

Hey Marv.
I'm not sure how feasible that would be given
all the concerns some of which were mentioned
already but I like the idea.

Major and major plus can be combined but carefully
with a rule set up like we do in NorCal
with equalizer home runs at 1
and 5 run innings
and homers as singles.

I'm pleased to see SPA has gone to the equalizer
and HR's as walks.
That's smart AND more fun.

No "pro" division! For just the reason I stated above. Would not be interested in that at all.

Jawood: Its just for one event a year and its a regional association. More like an exhibition. I think it would make for great spectator participation. Local News would be notified, The best of the best no restrictions. 55 vs 50s get the equalizer. Min 5 Games. I like it :O) Anybody else want to weigh in? I'd really like to hear from 50M+ and 55M+ Teams. If you comment state your team. That way I know I'm not hearing from someone that wouldn't be involved.

If that's the case, we would be interested, depending on where it would be held. Still would not be in favor of open rosters though.

Possibly so Jawood but in reality how many big sponsors are there?

In reality there is only one, but one is too many and would not be an even playing field.

I have to disagree with that point of view. If someone is able to fully sponsor a team he/she should have the freedom to recruit whoever he/she wants to play.

I'd really like to see the best against the best. You talk about All Stars! What Fun... That's what its all about. How bout you guys in No Cal? Nevada? AZ? R U Game? Can you see the best players in No Cal against the best in AZ? or the best in Nev against the best in So Cal.? Come on Texas show us what you got :O)

I love everyone's optimism. The fact that the rosters are unrestricted makes my job easy. Just like a bouncer in a club checking IDs. :O) I have three teams so far expressing interest. They All say they are the "Best" in the USA. Kinda like the car dealer being number one :O) Anyone else game? I'm thinking I could charge admission for this one. :O)
