Discussion: What would you do

Most hitters work off how the the infield sets up, even with a five man infield you can find a hole to hit in. As for the middle, I only go there to protect my pitcher.

Podunk or National I'm in.

Before the season ends we'll end up playing 8-10 NCSSA events, 4 SSUSA,1 SPA, and 2 local NSA 40 events. That's a good season for most teams.

Our next Podunk tournament is NCSSA at BLD Manteca. Our bracket will consist of: Longhorns, East Bay Oldies, Barons, MTC 50, Stockton 50, and possibly MTC 55. Normally to get a bracket like that you have to spend 550.00 tournament fee, hotels rooms, miss work, and travel.

I thank NCSSA for an affordable, competitive, local program that we all can enjoy.

Mad Dog why so negative.

On any given weekend in NCSSA there might be a few locations with tournaments scheduled. A finite number of teams are able to enter each weekend. There have been a numbers of occasions where we've been put on a wait list.

What we're seeing here is not the drop in the number of players wanting to play but the numbers of teams with the funds to run a program.

Our association here in Nor Cal may be "Podunk" in your eyes but it's ours and we enjoy playing it.

Tournament was assigned to Pleasanton, Ca using Fremont , Ca as overflow. Our bracket with the higher ranked teams were in Fremont, Ca. Don't know the exact number of teams but having to use the overflow location shows that the NCSSA numbers are still strong.

The five run inning, equalizer, run spot base on ranking really keeps games tight. No matter what your opinion is on the rules they seem to work.

Damn shame when you have more 40 teams than 50 teams.

Discussion: Ball

The debate continues on this board regarding the ball. Both balls in question I've hit. I believe the 52/275 ball is to extreme of a shift. Was part of the SSUSA demo of this ball. Not one manager of the teams involved endorsed it.

Firstly, I haven't seen or heard of all these injuries that some speak of with the 44/375 ball. Play NCSSA, SSUSA, and league twice a week with the kids, all using the 44/375. Play infield and outfield.

Secondly, some say take the game back to 6-5 scores. Don't remember a lot of scores like that with aluminum and blue/red dots. Players were hitting them hard and far back then. Scores were in the 20's then, in the 20's now.

Stated this before. I would swing any bat that is mandated by the associations but I think hitting a good ball is what most would require.

The ultimate voice on this is dollars. Run your tournaments, two brackets, advertise the competting balls in each bracket and see who signs up for what.

Lastly, the only senior director in our area that used the restricted ball last year had to cancel his tournament this year due to laCk of team.

Discussion: How do the other major teams feel about major and major plus in western national

We Barons also had to play a Plus in the seeding and bracket. Put into the losers bracket by The Longhorns a Plus team. The loses the Major teams had in bracket to Plus teams falsely restructured the Major portion of the tournament.

Again don't mind it in seeding but should not be at this disadvantage in bracket. Major and Major Plus teams are built different. Proof is that even with split awards the Plus teams finish 1-2.

My previous Major Plus experience was combing Plus/Major in seeding games but not bracket games. Played Plus 6 yrs on 40's and 2 yrs in 50's. This was a first as far as I was concerned. Normally after seeding Plus goes into own bracket even if its 2 out of 3.

Big disadvantage for teams that played Plus teams and were sent to the losers bracket.

After almost 13 yrs of play Masters/Seniors I must say that Al Patch Park is one of the worst venues Senior Softball has ever used.

Discussion: When a Pitcher is not a defensive player...

Once the batted ball is touched by a defender ball is live, all advance at own risk. If runner obstructs the defense or purposely makes contact with the ball, defferent story.

Joe,

You know I have your back on the ball issue. But Bat Rolling in any association is illegal. Any action other than normal use on a bat is cheating.

Dam Joe, what's with all the drama with you 60 guy's? Middle wars, bats, etc.

We had none of that in the 50's. Nice weekend of softball. We MTC came up a little short (2nd). Played all but one game on the 350' fields. Ball played ok,(Trump Stote). Few homeruns, but plenty of defense and alot of running.

See you this weekend.

Getting back to Senior Softball....

Regarding the 52/275 ball or a comparable ball. It's obvious by the feed back to NCSSA this weekend that teams will not spend time/money on an event using this ball.

Regardless of "hitting it right", or "cheap home runs", or whatever, it's a dog in these parts.

If you're promoting this ball just have the "nuts" to advertise it prior to teams entering your tournaments and let the chips fall where they may.

Played 2003 ASA 40 Nationals in Aurora at that complex. Is top notch and right by the airport.

Joe,

Finally played on the same team together.

First time I've hit the Baden Fire Ball. Held up very well in the 100 degree heat. Maybe SSUSA sould switch to this as opposed to the Trump.

PS....I won't tell anyone about that K looking.
