| May 20, 2013 BudLeftField | Topic: Bats Discussion: Illegal bat It sounds like your senior league uses single-wall bats only. If this is the case ,the bat would be illegal. It would be legal down here in Florida or in any state that allows double-wall or composite bats. If you play tournament ball , you can use it. I believe there are also some single-wall bats that are considered too hot for some senior leagues. That might also apply to your league. Hope this info helps. Good luck. |

The visitors bat and then the bats are brought over to the home teams bat rack. These are the only bats allowed for the game. I call these bats Wal-Mart bats as they are cheap aluminum bats, and they put the emphasis on defense and safety. Since the outfielders play shallow, there are alot of gappers that go for inside-the-park home runs. |

I roll up a towel and lay the bat head on it and hit the barrel as hard as I can while rotating the bat. I will do this hundreds of times. This is supposed to loosen the bat up. I know that they sell a tool made of a hammer handle with a softball attached to pound the bat with also. Whether this works or not I have no idea, but it makes alot of noise in the garage. |

You can pull hard with your bottom hand and push with your top hand, but basicly your top hand is just along for the ride, and will come off the bat after contact. |

Then he used a wiffle ball bat and swung it at 121 mph. He suggested that you could improve your bat speed if you used this technique regularly. I normally swing a 32 oz. bat and then a 34" broom stick when training, but I could use any suggestions to make more consistant solid contact at the plate. |

New York Just google Long Island Senior Softball, and you can find out where the teams are located and the fields they play at. They play double-headers on tuesdays and thursdays, and there are pick-up games mon., Wed. and Fri. at Caldonia Park in Huntington if you are anywhere near there. Good luck. |

Connecting the Hips to the Hands for max power and consistency bogie-swing makeover series #4 is excellent. By coiling the hips and taking a longer stride into the ball seems to ad distance as well as working as a timing mechanism for better contact. Looking foward to episode #5. Thanks-Bud |

They were in Div.2 last season and w31-L33. Why not play Div.1 ? TThe Glen Cove Vikings won Div.1 with a W-52 L-10 record. You would probably have more fun playing against them. Good luck. |

My home field was by the Babylon town hall. The fences were at 250' . I thought most of the other fields were too. Been in Florida the last 8 years. Alot of long Islanders down here in The Villages. We have 92,000 people here. 2500 softball players. Many travel teams. Great Soft ball facilities. Are the guys still playing at Caldonia Park? |

They use single-wall bats and the fences are 250'. When you start pitching in tournaments around the country, you will be facing alot of great hitters with Mikens,Reeboks, and Combats. If you don't wear a face mask or shin guards you might consider doing so. Good luck. |

It can be treated with ice, rest, an anti-inflammatory like ibuprofin, or can be drained with a syringe. It is a good idea to wear a knee pad to pro tect it when playing softball. Good luck. |

My last at bat in 2012 was a line drive base hit in the sixth inning of the semi-final game of the Dan West Memorial tournament. My team lost 19-17. I had played against Dan West for years and he was an excellent softball player. More importantly, he was a great guy. Having a tournament in his honor says it all. Before the final game,each player was introduced and came out of the dugouts with a rose that they presented to Dan's widow Brenda. What a special day. |

As he rounds third base , he high fives the third base coach and misses third base. After he touches home plate, the other team appeals and he is called out. We're playing on the same team this coming season and I can't wait to remind him. Now we have hit and sit after an over the fence home run so I guess he is safe for awhile. |
