The sad thing about this rule is most if not all of Pitchers take pride in their defense. Here's one vote for SSUSA to recommend that Pitchers use protective equipment and let's play ball,we don't want or need all these rule changes.

butch17, congrats again for you teams win at world champinships in 55 M+.
spoonplugger are you saying you like all these rule changes that are being put in because of the danger to pitchers due to these senior bats and if we hit hot balls that only adds to the danger. Are you saying that you are over 60 years old and your skills have not diminished? I also play 3rd and manage our 60 Major team. Was your team in Phoenix in October?

einstein, why don't these guys that you talk to that want to play with the lively balls and senior bats say so on this message board? I would like to hear from then especially the line drive hitters that you say would suffer the most if a hot ball is not used.

Discussion: new rule for pitchers

I agree Omar, that very few senior agree with einstein on his hot ball/senior bat combo and all the rule changes that are thating place because of it. Einstein you say the hot balls benfits the line hitter the most because they wont be able to gap the outfield etc without them, but I have not read one post on here from someone that say they are a base hitter that agrees with you. May have been some and I missed them. Most agree with hitting a lesser ball so pitchers and corner infielders can have a chance to make a play and keep the game intact, you even when as far as saying put a screen in front of pitcher so you could hit the hot balls.(talk about changing the game). My $.02

Discussion: THAT SURVEY MENTIONED IN RED ABOVE

I agree butch they are trying. Would have been nice to had results before the meetings in Nashville though. Question for staff or anyone, what if survey shows that a large % of manager's that reply are against this middle not hit zone will it be over turned now or will we have to wait till Dec 2010?

Discussion: Its Unanimous - The Best Senior Softball Players Are in California and Florida

I just looked at World Champinships from this past October in the 50,55&60 age group and 54 of the 185 teams which is a tad under 30% and 2 out of 12 winners (17%)were from CA,like #6 said something don't add up. 4 winners were from AZ who may have some players from CA but still I don't understand why this is being changed. Also in the 60 M+ 5 out of 7 teams and in 50 M+ 5 of 10 teams were from CA, so in the 2 they won 59% of teams were from CA.
Stands to reason that most winners at TOC will be from FL because they will have the most teams and have a edge on northern teans due that its in Feburary, but they should not be punished for this.

Discussion: New PPR & Middle rule

I hear you James, I've read this rule 10 plus times and still can not understand WHY this was put in. What will Ump call if batter hits slow roller and is going to beat it out but Pitcher lets it row and ball hits or bounces over the rubber?

Tate22,I was at the Wednesday meeting and read word for word what you put on this board on 11-2-09. You said and I fully agree-Only protective eguipment protects,it is readily available and currently legal. Best of all pitchers can be safe and we can keep the game intact. Nothing like this new middle hit zone was discussed at the Wed meeting, I did not go to the Thur and Fri meeting because I was told I could listen but not speak and thats very hard for me to do. lol
I do not like this new rule but feel its better then what we had last year, when pitcher had to be hit and had to be in box. Like Lecak says just use the rule as a 11th fielder.

Steve,LL Roofing won the 09 spring national and are one of 14 teams that qualified for 2010 TOC. I was just wondering about them being that tourney is in their home state. Would be nice to have at least 8 teams go.

Discussion: Why dont teams get to rate umpires ?

Before the PPR I had very little to complain about the Umps, but the way this rule was worded it was a nightmare for Ump's and coaches. Seem like no 2 umpires called it the same way and in the finals of 60 major in Phoenix ump doing the plate said any ball hit close to pitcher was a DBO. I told him this was our 9th game in tourney and rule reads and called in the other 8 games that pitcher had to be in box plus had to be hit for DBO to be called and how could he change this on his own. TD was called over and he was told to call rule the way it was worded, this really did happen.
I feel that umps that play or have played this game do the best job. I know in senior ball with the CR and special rules makes it hard but most do a great job.

Discussion: pitcher safety thought!

Tate22 great post,I agree 110% any way you could go to Nashville next month?
Bob50,as most know I been on here a number of times saying the same thing. Most pitch and back out of box and the back of box gets marked out after a few innings and so on. I talked to Terry and Dave by phone and email all Summer trying to get the fact that Pitcher has to remain in box for DBO to be called removed but was told that rule will be looked at in Dec. I hope the rule is removed but if not surely this will be changed.
Again congrats to the Travelodge team for their big win in AZ
