W25. that's my point most players don't move up when they can anyway and this would be a easy fix for the low number of Major+ teams. The other 3 divisions have good numbers now.IMO

Discussion: Team Looking For TOC Players

We went to TOC in 2008 and had to use our 2007 roster and team that won our
55M division qualified in Nov 07 at WN and was able to play in TOC with their 2008 roster. SSUSA changed this the very next year to present guidelines, which is lot better.
There are a lot of reasons it would be better if TOC was held in Nov.IMO
1-When new year starts teams are getting ready for in this case 2010 and most teams are adding a player or two because they are able to play in their age group this year.
2- Teams could be losing some players because of them being about to move up. So your 2010 team could be alot different than 2009 team.
3- In our area we call this time of year the off season and if someone needs a Knee scoped,Rotater surgery etc if possible this is the time of year to have it done.

Here's another vote for moving the TOC to Nov & WN in Feb. My reasoning is a team has to use their 2009 roster and TOC is played in Feb 2010 and in our case we have 2 new players that can not play in this event. What I'm trying to say for a manager it's a real problem if you go to WN in Nov you can play your 2010 roster then there is a good chance 1 or 2 from the 2009 roster will quit or move up to next age group and you won't have then for TOC so now your short on players.

Duke,I think 10 years is to much. in our local league we are the only 60+ team and playing the 50+ teams is very hard especially nite games. Its easy for m+ teams to say combine the m & m+ to fix their low # at tourney's well as the old saying goes if it not broke don't fix it and the m division is doing just fine with good # of teams at most tourney's. My purposal to do away with the 55 age group in m+ and go with 2 between ages 50-64 will help fix their problem, and do it within the m+ division. imo

I should have put the 2rd age group as 58-64. This would help fix the low number of M+ teams. imo

Agree E4,the problem is the major+ division. For a couple of years I have suggested on here to do away with 55 age group in M+ and go with ages 50-57 and 58-65.

Our team is a local league and self-sponsored so everyone plays. May rotate a couple etc but in senior ball you need extra players and its hard to get someone to pay their own way and play only if there is a injury. Fully sponored, hand picked teams now that's a different story imo.

It will be easier to recruit now that there is no PPR or no hit zone. How would you get a good SS or 2rd baseman to play if you have to tell him
if fielding a ball hit up middle a DBO would be called no chance to turn DP?

Rip,what state is your team from ? We are going and being from KY will not be in Softball shape in Feb. We have 6 outfielders and all are very good hitters. I usually bat 12 and bat all 6 outfilders and rotating them on defense and hope that 4 will be healthy come Sunday. Bat everyone in pool play and usually a couple will be banged up after 3 games. Ego's come in to play some will be limping in outfield and get upset because he's not out there. Also a lot depends on how hot it is,if you play back to back games etc. Like hombre said play the way you did all season. I know batting everone in pool play could hurt you if say there is 5 teams so #1 seed gets a bye.
Good luck, our Jim & Joe's will be there playing 60 major

I agree it is a very good survey, one question was about going to a 1-1 count another about a possible hitting the middle rule, hopefully both will be shot down, changes the game way to much imo. Another was what they could do better and I suggested police the Roster better for world tourney, I know in 2009 there were a lot of M+ players playing M. This is very rare in SSUSA
Happy New Year!!

Discussion: New Pitching Rule Repealed!!

The big picture about this repeal is that SSUSA is listening to the Manager's and Player's. Being a retired insurance agent I fully understand the concern for liability risk of the senior bats, but to put in that routine double play ball fielded were called DBO with no chance to turn 2 changed our game way to much and they listen to us. I know last year a lot of us tried to get the fact that Pitcher had to remain in box for DBO to be called changed to include if he backed out of box,but was told by staff that it could not be changed till next rules committee meeting,so the Survey and phone confenece so soon on MNHZ was great.
As far as a batter intentionally trying to hit a Pitcher, in my 14 years of senior ball I've never seen this but have hear of it happening and feel was the reason that all this pitcher protection rules were apply and ejection is proper.
Merry Christman and Happy New Year to the whole senior softball community and please remember our Military!

I play 3rd also but feel that with the senior bats the outfield is harder to play because they have to play so deep and charge the ball hard to kept batter on 1st,plus some times the line drives will rise or knuckle. Also the sun and wind can make playing the outfield very difficult.
Now if you ask which is the most dangerous then I'll vote for infield hands down.

We have played mostly Major over last 4 years but did get bumped to M+ for half the year in 2007 and I felt the biggest difference was throwing arms in the outfield. Some may think thats not a big deal but base hits that we got doubles in M were singles in M+,Which kept the double play in tack.
Plus the M+ teams have more legitament HR hitters. Hitters that can hit out of ball park with wind blowing in and you see more miss hit balls going over fence in M+.
