I was a coach from 02-04'; but as a player that spends $500 on an away tourney; I do not feel that the above request is beyond reason. Every coach should have some kind of a clue about the oppostion; it is called checks & balances.

Billy Mac: Congrats on your win at Cullman; great team. I was told by the SPA that the roster is frozen for all associations after Plano. We had seen some players in the SSWC/ISA Spring Nationals @ Altamonte & I was questioning their validity to play for a different team. SPA told me at Plano that since the SSWC/ISA was a Spring Tourney that the frozen roster for the major division did not apply. Whether all associations comply w/the frozen roster rule is a good question. I would like to know also. Last year JAH had to send in a frozen roster by June 15th; that is why we were so short at many tourneys; I was told that I could not add any players. I got so low for Plano, 9-10 players, that the rule book allowed me to add, of course I had to go thru the team release forms & get the Director's approval.

Those of you that disagree with the snowbird rule; have you sent your e-mail of disgust to the associations??? It is like complaining about politics; you can vote to show your displeasure.

As I analyze the snowbird rule; it seems clearer that it does not mean that your state has snow & you do not have a team to play with; rather, the rule allows you to go & play with a dominant team from a certain area. I guess I have been having a Senior Moment. Come on; you that are actual snowbirds, we are calling you out; speak your peace; let us know why the snowbird rule should remain. (Not that any of our complaints are going to make a difference)

MK; that is correct. At the ISA last year in Altamonte Springs, I (coach) ask to see the roster of another team to protest their player & the TD REFUSED. How could I protest w/o seeing an address? We still won anyway.

Anybody with any more hilarious "snowbird" stories, please reply, this is making for some great senior comedy; cannot cry, might as well laugh at a rule that is so twisted. Never heard of a snowbird from a state that never sees snow. Hmmmmmmmmm!!!!

Walk: If you do not have a team in your state or bordering states, you should be able to send proof; then the directors should allow you the chance to play Senior Ball with the nearest team. I was told that in 2002: if I could not find a Major or Major + team in my area, then the Director would allow me to pick up with another team, of course when I got this info was in late September, too late to play.

I played w/Faith from 99-02; I did not use nor did I know of anyone on the team that used altered bats or had an incorrect address. I prayed & started the JAH Masters in 03/04; I did not use nor did I know of anyone that used altered or painted bats or had an incorrect address. Everyone that has spoken with me on the phone, at a tourney or via e-mail knows I talk & stand by the rules, but here is one that needs everyone's attention.

Here is the scenario:
Teams Home Base had 338 hits, but 3 replies.
MK's Snowbird List had 1371 hits, but 51 replies.
DL as Residence had 561 hits, but 17 replies.
300 Snowbirds had 427 hits, but 3 replies.

That equals 2694 hits on the subject, but 74 replies; that is a very low percentage.
A snowbird is someone that has snow almost ALL year & does not have softball in their state.
Remember: the snowbird or birds that you have on your team in 05' just might be on the opposing team in 06' & thereafter when you have spent $500+ dollars (one tourney) of your own money & all your time & get beat.

I am not asking the associations to respond to this; I am asking for you that are snowbirds. I personally think that the rule should be overturned, give us a reason that it should not be overturned; you can keep your identity if you so desire. Tell us why it is so important? Why you cannot play in your state? Out of 2694 hits, someone has got to be a snowbird; please defend the rule!!!

Tater: still TOTALLY disgusted with this rule.

Sorry Sticks: but I have to lean w/MK; this is not crying, this is checking the rules. If MK, myself & others had not expressed some interest in this snowbird rule would you & others be aware of it & realize how it could affect your team? It is so easy to POSSIBLY abuse this rule that I had to bring attention to it. I NOW look at Senior Softball through a different set of eyes. What ODD rule can I expect to see at the next tourney. I will now proceed to ONLY play the game. This is sad that this rule can be contorted to such degree.

Mike: I do not know of any. I have been playing since 99; I never thought guys would cheat or twist the rules at this age, but I am learning not to be so naive. I try to believe the best in people until I am proven otherwise; then I try to leave room for them to seek forgiveness.

Mike: in actuality a person does not even have to OWN property. I could go to Phoenix & hang with my friends for 3 months & claim a snowbird rule. This rule seems to have been passed on when organizations changed hands & me & others have stirred up enough stink about it, that it is getting national attention & they plan to put a new phase to the snowbird rule by the next summit.
I think even now since the stink has been stirred up that it would be very difficult for someone to get a snowbird status. The rule should also indicate that a snowbirder's name & info as you requested should be sent to ALL managers as soon as it is filed, then people who know the individual could give some insight if the info was faulty.

Discussion: Major Frozen Roster

In 04': I was sent a letter stating that I had to have a (Major) National Frozen Roster turned in by June 15. This roster was valid for ALL associations; I could not have one team at one tourney, then the next week have a different team at the next association's tourney. If anyone has any more info on this, please add it. I am sending this to several directors.

Here is an update: after talking with a Director, the snowbird rule may not get rescinded against my wishes, but we can still change the rules. If a snowbird rule continues to exist after the Senior Summit, a player must have the following:

1. Credit Card Receipts from that area for gas, lodging, food or materials if they are working there. I am going to push for 6 months+ residency.
2. Also, show that he owns or leases the property.
3. Also, a copy of this info should be in his ball bag or in his possession at ALL tourneys.

If you have any more suggestions, please list them. I plan to get all info possible & bombard the summit. The snowbird rule has too many loopholes & they need to be tied into a huge knot. Remember: this is our game & only we can make the changes.

Gary: I started the JAH Masters in 03' & 04; then it became the Miken/Old South. Since I am no longer the coach I will not give the details, that will be left up to Bruce & Don, but I will conclude, we are not fully sponsored.
In any snowbird rule; each manager should have access to names & addresses of snowbirds so that they can do some research; this is called checks & balances. If you have no address how can you check on someone.

Thanks to Mr. RB Thomas for jumping on the snowbird topic. I had no clue such a rule existed; I had never read it in any rule book. The players are the ones that can make a difference. We need to approach all association heads with respect & business like; no slander or bashing. If we have a question or petition, put a letter together & get every player to forward it to the Directors. Thanks for all the input on the snowbird rule. I still stand in oppostion to anyone who can live in an area 3 months & play in that state or bordering states; this is not fair to the rest of us. As Bruce stated: where is the snow in the summer; we all have teams that we can pick up with or the director could allow us to pick up with the NEAREST team to our state.

Bruce: it goes back to the old saying; locks are put on doors because of law breakers. You do not have to put a lock on a car, store or bank because of righteous people. A falsified DL could get someone in hot water. I am with you & most other Seniors; when someone falsifies a document, the penalty should be very severe.
