There is a significant difference between a AA or AAA shot up the middle, and a Major/Major+ shot up the middle....a significant difference. That Major/Major+ shot can really hurt someone.

Audie,
Agree with you, Caleb can definitely also play the defensive side of the ball in multiple positions which distinguishes him from a lot of guys that can just hit. He is a complete player and a competitive one.

Have to share this....

We are playing in our first Black Circuit softball tournament qualifier in Jan in 3 weeks(our team is 50/50 and we like it that way). The entry fee is $275, and the winner of the 50+ division gets what??? Not a cheesy TShirt, not a discontinued bat bag, not a recycled plaque....the winner gets $1000 cash and an automatic entry into the World tournament in August.

Listening SSUSA?

Traveled for a living for 12 years and the hottest weather I ever saw was leaving the plane as I arrived at the Phoenix airport in July. It was like walking into an oven without air feeling like a basted turkey. Not a single soul outside walking in the Copper Square on a bright sunny day. It was, well, DESERTed.....I'll pass.
Give me the humidity, the heat, the hurricanes....it's a small trade for the Beaches, the Bikinis, the Florida Keys, the seafood, the fishing, and yes in Florida, it's always 5 o'clock somewhere!

Malo37, understand your comment about the expense of traveling, I agree, it's a major expense to travel that far. Substantial discounts with an airline might help, say SSUSA negotiated discounts? Maybe one day...

Agree with Beasley, West Coast already has Vegas, East Coast should keep the TOC.

It's true, Florida Half Century tournaments have been using the 1-1 count for several years.....successfully. It helps getting in a full 7 innings, it requires the batter to be ready to hit and eliminates posturing from the hitter and pitcher, it encourages throwing more pitches around the plate, and most of all it replaces time of inactivity with active game play.

This isn't baseball, it's S-L-O-W pitch softball. Using the 1-1 count with no foul works successfully. Thanks for asking SSUSA....now hopefully you can get it done!

SSUSA,
Thanks for the info, please go to the 1-1. 80% of our tournaments are 1-1, it works and we get to play 7 innings most of the time.

Please keep the 1-1, it doesn't hurt the hitters, it doesn't impair the pitchers ability to spot pitch, and yes, it does speed up the game.

Bruce, Gotta agree with you, Caleb is really good leadoff hitter and will take one out if you put that pitch in the wrong place.

But for a pure leadoff hitter, with bat control and speed that consistently gets on base, that routinely turns singles into doubles, I'll take Bill Gay, Florida Classics.

Did you guys see the post in the list of topics?

80+ team looking for player.....I swear, unbelievable.
At that age I wanna be holding a blonde, a bourbon, and a fishing pole. I'll set the blonde down once in a while if I get a bite, or was that the fishing pole I set done if I get a bite from the blonde. Either one works....

Wagon487,
It's all about getting the most out of time....Indoors we can hit the whole team with about 60 swings each in an hour......

Bullithead 69,
Wes recommendation of contacting Shelby was a good one....probably the best way to go

Sanford, (just north of Orlando) has an indoor facility with a slow pitch machine. Hit-n-run.net I believe is the name.

Also plenty of open parks...

Mad Dog,

I think in your example the team that hit the fewest home runs is fresher. Look at your example....

-------
ok team a scores ,lets say 20 runs a game avg, with only 1 maybe 2 hrs..most likely there are errors by the defense in that mix also, with a bunch of running and expending effort on the base paths....now team b scores that same amount of runs with 10 hrs,no defense involved, less effort running the bases,so tell me who is fresher after 5 games, your gonna tell me this is the same..........
--------

Effort is mostly expended on defense....soooo, if I'm playing a team that hit 10 HR's, for half of their runs I had to play zero defense, I just turned my head...and only played defense for 10 of their runs, or even less.

But if I am playing defense, and they only hit 1 or 2 out, only got to turn my head one or two times. The other 18 or 19 runs I had to run, throw, run, throw......a lot of effort on defense.

Just a different slant....with the same example.
