Dearborn used to have a real good 50+ Monday night league, but that folded 2 years ago. My 50+ team had to drop down to the 40+ league and the competition is not very good. Nearest 50+ league that I know of is in Warren. There is a morning 55+ travel league (CanAm) that has teams out of Dearborn, Taylor, Oak Park, Livonia, Warren, Sterling Heights, and Windsor. |

There is a spot for the combatants in the Seattle Major. Strojan is handling the event for me this year with everything we have going on. 2. As you all know our partner company in Canada was taken into recevership thus having a Chapter 15 restraining order filed against us here in the US to protect assets owned by a foregin bank. We filled nothing in the US this is all been forced on us from the Canadian banking system. 3. The current Majority ownership and employees of Combat are prepairing to bid/purchase the entire company ... Manufacturing plant, brand , Combat USA, inventory, etc. Making the compnay employee owned and operated has always been the dream, the Candian engineers, President and manufacturing team are coming together with the sales, marketing and players to form a Players by Players complete company. There is always a risk that someone out bids the employee backed move but as in any Derby adventure, all you can do is go balls out and make it work. 4. I have been asked by people how did this happen... The short answer is a youth baseball organization put a moratorium on high performing bats in Dec. of 2010 -- Combat as a entire Company backed by the manufaturing arm in Canada made the call to be fair to all retailers and consumers to take back the 35,000+ bats in the field. This process cost just over 5 million dollars. The plant has been fighting that battle ever since, and just ran out of time. No matter what happens it was the right thing to do, we could not stick our dealers or customers with a product they could not use. Not the Derby way! 5. I fully feel that we will come out of this stronger, better and unified. We are having great support form dealers like Softball Fans. Bryan is a true friend to us. Most of all we could not do this with out all you Derby Life and Combatants ..... Thanks to everyone and my apologies that this happend on my watch........ |

| March 14, 2013 ju25 | Topic: Bats Discussion: Other bats TPS doesn't have the best reputation when it comes to durability. High performing bats that don't last very long. SB34 Genesis, Black Nexus,Z2000, all great bats, but all are known for poor durability. Supposedly that problem has been taken care of with the Z3000 line . Allan55, you say the 3000 has better (incredible)durability, but as far as I know this bat is a preorder and is not sheduled for release until April? Tim, Stadium balls are.47cor/450comp. It's amazing that a senior bat could withstand that kind of punishment. I am a soon to be 60 year old and I would never use a senior bat in temps below 60. I have broken USSSA and ASA bats with 44/375 balls in 50 degree weather, and I'm a linedrive, once in awhile HR hitter. |

I had a first batch Synergy that developed vertical cracks in less than 100 swings, that lasted 6 more years until it actually broke. A crack in a composite bat is something that happens naturally after use and doesn't necessaraly mean the bat was altered. USSSA has a rule that if the Ump finds a crack in a bat it should be removed from play. Due to the high rate of bat doctoring USSSA has changed their bat standard for 2013. The new bats are supposed to be made to unravel when they exceed the 1.20 bpf. |

If you send back an Easton and the stamp is not visible they will not honor the warranty. Maybe the other companies should do this. Sorry to say but cheating has been going on forever. Cork in wood, tennis balls in aluminum etc. When you call a young gun out on an altered bat there response is" If you ain't cheating, you ain't competing". Sad!! |
| March 14, 2013 ju25 | Topic: Bats Discussion: Talk regarding illegal bats If your going to shave a senior bat you better have deep pockets. 50 bucks for 50 swings(if that) is not worth it. Used to be that altered bats were only used in upper level ball, but now it has filtered down to the lower levels(D-E) and even league ball. If you need to use a shaved or altered bat in senior ball you seriously need to find another hobby. How are you gonna feel when you seriously hurt someone because you had to use a thunderstick. Doctors pop the endcap to shave them so why can't you pop them to check them. |

Outfielders must play at a depth where they can throw a runner out, but I like to move an outfielder into the infield in hopes of getting a ground ball that you may have a chance of turning two. As an outfielder, with these bats and balls you have to play deeper in order to cover the gaps. Unless you know the hitter there are too many guys who will drop singles all day and burn you if you move in. |
| March 14, 2013 ju25 | Topic: Bats Discussion: Other bats Most of the other associations older composites will take 300+ swings to break-in and last forever. They can be had for under $200 and come with a 1 year warranty. The new stamp(USSSA 2013) models will break-in much faster, but not last as long. The new bats are made to unravel when they exceed the 1.20 bpf. I use my other association bats for bp, sometimes in temps below 50. My first composite was a Miken Velocit-E which was very hot but broke early in it's second season(Used in fall ball,temps below 40). This is when I found out that composites break from the inside out. I learned that you have to break-in the fibers(first 50-100 swings at 1/2-3/4 speed) before you swing all out and rotate the bat after every swing. I have owned 30+ composite bats since 2001 and have 28 left. IMO Miken, Easton, Demarini, & Worth seem to last forever. Mizuno,TPS(Louisville Slugger) and Combat perform well but lack in durability. Bats I have broken include Mizuno Wrath 120, Wrath Extended, Blur Advanced, Combat B1,Uncensored,PM Virus, and TPS SB101 Genesis, and Black Nexus. Only senior bat I broke was a Worth 454. Bat was a dud(200+ swings and still behind my ASA bats) so I tried hitting some old red dots(50/575+) 20 swings and the bat cracked. My gamers for USSSA were a Miken MV-1,Easton CNT+, and Combat Gear Supremacy. |

Here is his old post;March 12, 2012 Mac 21 3 posts GSC Bats This is Steve McKinlay. I play with Demolition GSC. For the record, I partnered with Bill Gateley over a year ago, first to perfect the Veteran bat being built in China, and ultimately to build a new bat in the United States. The process of building this bat has taken far longer than we originally anticipated, but it is far better than we could have hoped for. My motivation to get in to the bat business was because I was tired of spending thousands of dollars, and seeing my teammates spend thousands of dollars, on bats that were breaking. In the last month, it was discovered that Bill Gateley had been perpetuating misrepresentations about GSC without my knowledge. Bill is now legally disassociated from GSC completely. Since Bill’s departure, I have received multiple notices of faulty GSC bats sold and promises of replacement, that I had no knowledge of. I will honor those replacements. I am continuing the manufacturing process of the new Veteran Core bat. We will introduce it by May. We are gearing up for full scale production and inventory reserves so that we are ready for sales. Starting next year it will be the 52/300 only, except for senior events, were the 44/375 ball can be used. If my memory serves correct GSC came into existence in 2010. They produced the White Veteran. In September I ordered a White Vet, but they could not guarantee I would receive it before Winter Nationals(Oct./2010) so I cancelled my order and received my money back (thank God). They also had the GBA 1 piece with the flag on it, hot but terrible durability. Then came out with the 2 piece GBA , the one I swang felt good but lacked in performance. Steve McKinlay hooked up with Bill Gately(Gates) in January of 2011 to produce the solid core bat. They were going to use computers to produce these bats in China. Couldn't be done so they moved the project back to the USA. They use to report on here that they were having problems, but to remain patient. Bill Gately was let go from the company in March of 2012 and Steve took over the project. Steve use to report updates, but hasn't done so in a while . I believe Steve said he wasn't responsible for any bats ordered before January of 2011, but would send bats to these people, if and when they ever become available. The Spirit is an ASA bat. |

| March 9, 2013 ju25 | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Bat/ball combos of yesteryear We used HARWOOD BALLS here in Michigan and those balls were lopsided by the 2nd or 3rd inning. Back then we were using 34-38oz. bats and the hitter had to do the work, not the bat or ball. When singlewall bats came out balls would fly when you hit that tiny sweetspot, then came doublewalls, balls flying further more often because of the bigger sweetspot and the trampoline effect of the 2 walls. Nowadays with the composite bats the sweetspot is practically the entire barrel and the bat compresses more than the ball does, which results in greater distance more often. When the first Ultra came out it was advertised as adding 50' to your swing and this was no lie. Witnessed an original Ultra outhit a Bobby Buggs PST by atleast 50'. Technology is here to stay, so just live with it an be thankful that we are still able to play this game we have loved all our life. |

Like I said before if you shave a senior bat it is not going to last very long. I have heard from known bat doctor in our area(Metro Detroit) that he removed the rod from a 30oz. Launch(4 oz.) and put the weight into the end, for a senior player. Same guy who shaved the Freak 98 for a 65+ senior. |
