Discussion: Baytown, Tx Feb.18

Happy New Years to all. Just want to tell all about our annual EarlyBird tournament in Baytown on Feb 18th. For details, email me at gthomas39@comcast.net or call Jim Tharp(832 444 1350) or Greg Thomas(281 468 7545). Usually a great way to start the year. Even if not going to play in this one, contact me and I will add you to my tournament list for future tournaments. Won't find any tournament cheaper then this one. Come join and have some softball fun and meet a great bunch of guys.

Discussion: Balls

The ball they used in Phoenix is the same ball we have hit in Houston and Austin all year long. Weather was over a 100 most times in Texas. Absolutely, nothing wrong with the ball used in Phoenix this weekend in the 50AAA division. It carried well in every game. Just my 2 cents worth. GT

mad dog. I did not count teams I knew were no longer playing. Don't know much about ElPaso, only a few that I know are playing. So that area might have duplicates, but not sure.
Two teams in Lubbock, Brandon & Clark, and M3Tile, I don't know for sure. Frank Smith Toyota, Adidas and Kaos are no longer teams. So, the number of 50's teams in Texas is a good guess at best. I would think SSUSA would know for sure how many are really playing. Out of the 21 the real number probably is between 12 to 15. Not bad, but helps there are at least 3 from La. that play with us at times. Would be nice to have more 60-65-70 & 75 year old teams. The other bad point for 50's is so many work and only have so much vacation time. Have to save some for Phoenix and any other tournament one would travel to. Its the same for 55 and 60's also. But, heck, we get to play and enjoy ourselves. Thats what its all about.

Discussion: Prayers for Ewald Schadt

Please say a prayer for Ewald and his family. Ewald has had ALS for a few years. He is being sedated but the prognosis is not good. I know many guys around the country know Ewald and what a super player and person he is and many of you know his wife, Denise. Personally, I have not met two nicer people in my life. I will update this message when we have more info. Its a very sad time for us. God Bless All.

mad dog. I counted a total of approx. 66 tourney teams, all age brackets, in Texas.
50--21
55--9
60--16
65--9
70--7
75--1
80--3
According to the ratings. 10 of these teams are in the ElPaso area, so we rarely see them at any Houston or Austin tournaments. We do draw teams from Louisianna, which helps to play different teams. Big state, but really not that teams. Those states that have a large organization are lucky. Its a long ways to travel in state and gets expensive for teams that are self-sponsored. The heat and humidity have an affect on tourneys also. Low team turnout, means not much rest between games. As we all know, we've play 4 games in a row in this weather lately. Just a little info.

Discussion: Houston in Sept

We've been running tournaments in Houston for 9 years. Jim Tharp(Houston Fire and me(Houston Free Agents) and would like to try something new this year and see if we can't do it every year. Tournament for Major and Major Plus teams. Tournament will be held Sept. 24 and 25, in Baytown, Tx. Bracket the teams and make it a 4 game round robin. This can be held in one day, depending on the number of teams. All info you need will be given to anyone who is interested. You can contact Jim or me at the numbers listed below.
Greg Thomas--281 468 7545
Jim Tharp---832 444 1350
You won't find a tournament with this entry any where. Would be a great tune up for Phoenix. Thanks and good luck to all this season.

Discussion: Broken Ultra 2

Houston, Tx. Saturday noon, about 65 degrees. A woman who plays in the league swings an Ultra 2, which she had approximately 2 months(She removed it from the wrap). Hits a 44/375 ball and it breaks completely just above her hands. She has the handle in her hand and the rest goes flying. Personally, I love the Utlra 2 but that was not good advertising for it. I have seen many men swing and break one, usually on or near the sweet spot, but have never seen one break apart like this one. Anyone else ever seen one break like this? Lot of money for a 2 month old bat and broken by a woman. Guess, the guys just aren't strong enough to break them like this. lol

Discussion: 50AAA

Houston Free Agents would like to congratulate the Agway Bandits on their winning the 50AAA division in Phoenix. It was great to play you and thought you had a very classy team. Congrats to Wolfpack on taking second. We had a great game(7 to 6) and also felt you had a class team.Felt all the teams in this bracket were super and the kind of teams we enjoy playing. I'd also like to give a special thanks to Austin Relentless and Carlito's. Thanks for your support and encouragement. Our team really appreciated it much more then we can say. Never a doubt we have class teams in Texas. Hope to see both and more at our earlybird tournament in Pasadena in Feb. Always a fun one.
PS A special thanks to the field crews for their work on the fields and to the TD's who worked so hard to make this a successful tournament.

Discussion: SSUSA IN BOERNE

Dog, that was a very nice message you put out. Yes, meeting you guys and playing you was fun. Maybe I didn't explain my thoughts as well as I should have. For the record, we complained about playing you before the first game, after we won it and before the second game. We paid to play any of the other 7 50 AAA teams in this bracket. Teams we don't get to play most of the year. We were cheated out of that opportunity. We paid for rooms, traveled there and played a 40/45 y/o team. Thats not what we paid for. Being put into the losers bracket for whatever reason was wrong just because another 50 AAA team was not the team that put us there. In CLute, we were put into a losers bracket due to playing a combination Major/MajorPlus team. We just want to play teams in our division. Playing you in pool play was fine, not in the elimination round and that was my point I meant to make. Be glad to play you guys in pool play anytime, it was fun. According to the score card you submitted, you have 14 guys listed, not 13. So someone did play in the second game that did not play in the first game. Does the number 12 mean anything? Anyways, I think we've made our point to SSUSA that we and other teams were not happy with this tournament. And yes, we waited many hours to play due to not enough fields.
Good luck in your future games. My final say on this matter.
