Dec. 17 Tater50 Men's 60 336 posts | Steve65 brought up a great topic. Let's take this scenario: NO SENIOR SOFTBALL ASSOCIATIONS PERIOD!!!!! What would you do to replace this void? Myself; I have a very hard time during the winter cause I am not playing; so I have to pour my extra time into working on my farm; I like it, but do not LOVE it like I do playing SSball. (I do not like to play SB in the COLD) I have had several knee operations & 2 blood clots that left me inop or partially inop for the season: I had a TOUGH time. If we were talking about ANY other sport, I'd have NO problem, but SSball is AWESOME; the game, the teams & the teammates. Your Thoughts Tater50 |
Dec. 17 steve65 Men's 65 177 posts | to replace senior softball---hmmm I have a cabinet shop in my yard and I could go back to making furniture pieces for the kids--of course that is lots and lots of alone time--I could fish but have caught most of the fish in this private lake--several other things come to mind but nothing I can think of can fill all the spaces Senior Softball has filled--exercise to stay in shape--plan trips around tournaments--"senior" softball take sus all back in mind and body to our younger days--lets come up with ways to improve the experience not just knock what we have |
Dec. 17 DoubleL10 Men's 70 907 posts | I'm with you guys! I would probably get back into golf - I used to play quite a bit but now I put my spare time into softball practice even if just hitting off a Tee. I, too, plan trips around tournaments - just ask my wife! Thankfully, she is very good about it and has a great time. I particularly enjoy visiting places where I played (Texas and Virginia) while living there. It's good to see old friends on the ball fields and kibitz with each other. Let me just say that I appreciate the efforts of all the Senior Softball associations to give us a place to play. |
Dec. 17 mad dog Men's 65 4191 posts | i would be bass fishing more, maybe even look into getting a nice boat, other than my little 16' aluminum one.also would play more golf.i do get to play with the kids so would get some softball in,but it would be about half of what i do now with senior ball also available to me.in fact playing with the kids this weekend.... |
Dec. 17 pitcher55 Men's 55 130 posts | we are all very fortunate to have the opportunity to still play.ssusa is a very well ran organization.we pay them good money and they provide a good service.without ssb,i would be playing more golf and going fishin' more with my wife. |
Dec. 17 Slowest Pitch Men's 75 18 posts | There's nothing like playing in the spring, summer, and fall, but I also play in the winter. Double headers on thursday and b.p. on tuesday and friday. Weather premitting naturally. If that disappears, then golf course here I come!! Bill Enos 70's |
Dec. 17 garyheifner 651 posts | I have skiied most of the Western ski areas, did Sturgis on my Harley last summer. The Only thing left on my bucket list is a fishing week at Lake Nultin in the Northwest territories. Cost is about $3000 and it is wall to wall trophy fish. If senior ball stopped, I would have the $$$$ to do it. Heck, I am only 67, got at least 25 more years to get there!!!! |
Dec. 17 Omar Khayyam 1357 posts | I would go back to tennis. In California, this is a year-round option. And I might start bowling again. And I could hit the gym more often. I could even start playing hoops again with some local oldsters. But I LEFT all of those activities to play senior softball!! So I would not be very happy. Other than bowling, and maybe basketball, they don't offer much in the way of friendships with teammates. Let's not abandon our associations but keep supporting them so this wonderful sport of softball continues. |
Dec. 18 Webbie25 Men's 70 2414 posts | I'm not sure what I would do. My wife likes to golf and I'm sure we would do more of that, but I would probably be over 250 lbs and die of old age and obesity. I love this game. |
Dec. 18 jimjoes-gman Men's 55 80 posts | Ride my Harley more . And , shoot pool . Gym wise , I think for sure I would still go . But , probably not as much & I doubt if I would include the "cable" workouts for hitting. |
Dec. 18 Al33 Men's 55 183 posts | I hate leagues, but I'd still play locally for some exercise and to be with friends. Definitely would play more, no a lot more golf. Also, have three new grand children to spend time with along with my wife. For over 35 years softball has afforded me the opportunity to go places and do things that I probably would'nt have done. That's another reason why I would like to participate as long as I can. I really enjoy tournament softball. |
Dec. 19 Ceres 73 posts | I play in 2 senior softball leagues during the week and selected Senior Softball Association Tournaments. If the latter went away I would join another league during the week and/or travel to San Diego, Honalulu, Hot Springs, Las Vegas, and Denver (but not to play softball) on the weekends. I would avoid Dalton Ga., Phoenix and Dallas when it's hot, Clute TX and several other not so thrilling places. |

Dec. 19 GSWP001 Men's 60 75 posts | Raquetball and golf for me. |
Dec. 19 JamesLG 421 posts | I would do more fishing and get involved in a pit bull rescue program. Would also play more golf but once a week would be plenty. Thanks: James |
Dec. 19 GSWP001 Men's 60 75 posts | JamesLG, I didn't know they had rescue up here. Way to go. Where do you golf at when you do? Dave NW Silver |
Dec. 19 JamesLG 421 posts | Hi Dave: My older Sister just rescuded two females from the tri cities area. The kennel we take our dog when we travel is also involved in Bully breed rescue. I have had them for nearly 20 years and will always own one or more. They are great dogs but probably not for everybody. I usually play either the Home Course or Lake Spanaway. We also like both Gold Mountain tracks. Thanks: James |
Dec. 20 Webbie25 Men's 70 2414 posts | James-my wife and I are also dog lovers. We have had 3 springer spaniels and a blue tick heeler. Love spaniels and if I had the money and time, I would seriously consider working rescue for them here. My step daughter and my grandson have a pit bull-great dog that came through in the pinch when he needed protection. Roxie is worth her weight in gold. |
