Discussion: New HR rule

No the new rule does just the opposite and so do any such variations.

Unlimited HRs is the best way to separate teams; saves times and allows games to get in full 7 innings.

What is everyone afraid of? Yes, when the wind is blowing out, some teams will hit more than normal. So What?

Yes, players play on teams with friends and maybe more than half don't hit HRs. Why should any batter change his swing? Does a singles hitter take of a glove in the field?

You people that advocate limited HRs cannot provide one reason why such a limit exists.

with 5 runs per inning, the game will go faster than allowing singles and a tema that is capable will not hide when they all count.

The team I play on probably hits on average 2 or 3 per game - more when the wind is right. other teams we played against have hit as many as 13 against us, but most were singles so we falsely were kept in the game.

I never understood and nobody has ever successfully explained a reaon why a limit exists.

As it is, we all play by whatever rules exist. But I have heard many individuals from many teams say, they will pick and choose what tourneys they go to because it just is not worth traveling and getting an out of a single for doing what most cannot.

My opinion. I know many disagree.

Once agian, you miss the point. Money is tight for many. so then we pick and choose where we go based on the idea of having fun.

To me haviong fun is not being restricted by individuals that can't hit that way so they make up rules to limit what others can do.

The money is not just flying. It includes hotels, food, toruney costs, etc.

So if one asks a question of why few teams attend or not attend, then one should be prepared for an answer.

Everyone has reasons for their choice.

Apparantly some do not like the reasons that other have and resort to personal remarks. That is your choice, not mine.

My opinion; why would I want to spend the money to travel to be allowed to hit 1 or 2 HRs and then be told you are too good and now they are outs!

Does a shortstop get told you now need to take your glove off because you have made too many double plays.

There is no greater sinking feeling than to hit a ball well only to be told you hurt your team.

And no! I don't believe I need to change the way I hit. That is a bunch of bull so don't even go there.

Dave, not to rush you but I need to let work know when I am taking off. It can not be that hard to simply add two teams to the 55s. Just let them play each other at 3:00 and play two other team at 4:30.

I realize that you probably have other priorities, but people do need to let the employers know when they will be taking off and it is only one week away.

Discussion: the history of pitcher safety concern

I have played for 35+ years and one thing that was failed to be mentioned. The fences were 270 or 275 and the standard ball was the 47 core Blue Dot or hotter.

yes teh bats are now better (hotter) but the balls were now 44 core. I don't see a lot of difference in Home Run cabability. The ASA created much of the problem when changing the bat approval after everyone purchased a so called APPROVED BAT.

Then the cheater bats came out in force. The approval of the Ultra or new Combats (or equal) was a move to legitimize the playing field and avoid cheater bats - be they honed out EST's or painted Ti bats.

What would be the difference if we allowed the pitcher to start as far back as they want? The ball still comes in at 2 mph and needs an arch of 6'. who cares where someone pitches from?

Discussion: ONE BASE AFTER HR

That is a stupid rule in this case and the person that objected or umpire that made the call has no idea of what the intent of the rule was for. It was put in to avoid collisions at the plate. In this case, their was no chance.

People, we need to think about rules and stop this &^#$ around. If someone hits an HR, don't pull this kind of stuff. Have a little class.

I don't know what happened in this case, but I have seen similar things when the opposing manager would protest - such as a bases loaded HR with no outs and the batter did not touch first. Objection was made and the batter was declared out but the run scored anyhow. How stupid. Players from that team apologized and said they had nothing to do with it.

Umpires need to make decisions on what is the spirit of the rules and not be robots.

I and not a Major Plus caliber player so I guess one could say I know my own limitations. However, I would like to comment on Major Plus teams. It is my opinion that they should be in a class by themselves with slightly different rules. Allow Major Plus players to play on any major Plus team regardless of state boundaries. That way a Major Plus player can play at the level they deserve if they wish. I undeerstand the state boundary rule and why it exists, but for Major Plus, I do not think it should apply.

Nicely put Joe. I like some of the rules put out by SSUSA and some by SPA and some I would prefer different in both. In my opinion, the SSUSA went from the best association to now in the mix and unless the rules move to follow the consensus of the ball players and to try to get our opinions they will continue to move downward and will probably loose teams. Especilly in this economic period.

Nobody wants to spend big bucks traveling if they cannot compete. That does not mean win most games, it means have a chance to win every game.

Arbitrary rule changes that make no sense and change the game we have a passion for is a mistake that will take it's own toll. Pitcher Protection and HR rules are direct opposites. I suggest to try a couple of tournaments with unlimited HRs, except in last inning, and see how fast games go and how teams move to a level of their own caliber.

Has anyone received a survey from SSUSA? I got one from SPA some time ago. At least there is a movement to ask all members what they think. I know it takes time and effort. But hopefully it will be worth it.

lets stop selling this short. Why have any limit at all; except for the last inning. Unlimited will allow to get to the 5 run per inning faster and allow to play 7 innings more often. It will allow better teams to move up in ratings faster instead of keeping power teams down and hidden longer. Finally, it is the way the game is supposed to be played. Don't mask talent.

Discussion: I have a simple question for those who have pitched.

Yes, for two reasons: one is we are getting older and our reaction time is less; and, secondly with the HRs an out then power hitters need to force a ball down and the biggest opening is between second and short. Therefore more balls are being aimed in that general direction than otherwise wuld be simple lifted.

That being said, a pitcher should wear protective gearif they have that concern. The rule called pitcher protection does nothing to prevent hitting the middle or protect the pitcher. My opinion.

Discussion: DBO/PPR rule - still protecting nobody

My position of this and other topics such as HR rule is to leve the game alone. this is tournament ball and we have separate divisions the will allow for equality of playing field. Don't chagne the game to something that limits our capabilities. I pitch sometimes and sometimes I wear chin guards; I hit an occassional HR and I don't want to feel bad that I used up a HR with nobody on base and hurting my team. At our ages, this should be a feel good activity and we should celebrate every opportunity. We are in fact freaks of nature to compete like we do.

I agree it should be at every level to allow for quick equality. Also, I like your idea of limiting the unlimited inning to say 2 HRs. At least it would not get out of hand.

I really don't think there will be that many HRs in the AA and AAA levels, but where they do occur you will see a quick promotion to a higher level and teams will stop complaining about other teams being too powerful for that division.

In one tournament this year, our team hit 5 HRs in one game (wind aided) and a total of 3 in the other 5 games combined.

I would rather a good team beat us badly and get moved up quicker than to face them several times over 2 or 3 years because they were held back due to a rule that limits them to outs or singles.

guys, I understand you feel differently but I would like to hear someone answer my question on if HRs were unlimited at ll levels; and, my preceived benefits of fater games; fater and truer rise in rankings; and more competitive groupings.

All please go back to my earlier statement and answer this: if HRs are unlimited, the teams that can hit them will advance to the next level faster and eventually (not long) there will be a true equality at each level. By masking HRs by singles or outs, all you do is keep the higher scoring teams down longer.

Why is there a HR limit? You will also find that 5 runs per inning get there quicker and you get the whole game in more often.

The you will have ture teams that play A, AA, AAA, Major, and Majro+.

Nobody ever anwers this question.

I turely enjoy hitting them out - technology or not. Also I know some top notch players and they will be the first to say they cannot hit them out at will. The ones that seem to think so are the ones who can't hit any out.

If one allows unlimited HRs; we would get through the innings faster and the better teams would advance to the next level faster. allow unlimited HRs at all levels and see the separation quickly.

Discussion: Rule Chaanges discussion

Sorry to inform you guys but I have not missed any point. The point remains that the directors have not tried to contact ball players and when I asked them why not they say it is impossible. WRONG!

when it comes to limiting Homeruns or worse yet making them outs; only those who can not hit homeronse would think of making that rule. Also, saying the rule was made to round out the game - that is nonsense. Run a tournament where teams can choose unlimited homeruns or 3 and rest outs and see how many teams sign up for which.

Another point, when I stated more balls will be hit back at the pitcher and I was told that was false - I say WRONG. I am capable of hitting homers and if they are outs, I am not going to change my swing and hit the ball lightly. I will try to keep it down but swing hard and the best chance to get a hit is up the middle. I don't like it because I also pitch but I expect it will happen and the risk of injury to pitchers will go up as more balls are hit there; especially by the ones with the most power the homerun hitters that now can't swing for the fences because it is an out.

Bad call by all directors; who as I understand it, voted with a great majority for this change.

I think you missed out on the point of HRs. If you understand a math term "regression to the mean" that means you take all the points and fix it so the overall points of interest (or in this case team ratings) come closer together.

Thier is absolutely no reason to have a Home Run limit at any level. It does not save time, in fact it makes innings and games longer. It does not give an advantage to strong teams, teams will be placed accordingly to their records.

Their is not one reason for limits on HRs. Even weak teams would want unlimited HRs so that the strong teams move up quicker.

Almost every game I played in this year and many in before, were shortened due to time limits. That is not what we paid for and travel for. Lengthen the time limits to 1 hour and 15 minutes.

Remember, if a team has the power to hit a lot of HRs, when the HRs are done, they still hit harder then the weaker teams, but the games are longer and the teams do not show their true potential.

If the committee is suposed to be making rules for us then try representing what we want.
