Discussion: NEED TO PLAY

Circumstances have left me without a team to play for this weekend in Las Vegas. If you are short some players and could use a pretty fair line drive hitter with occasional power, I'm available.

I think I'm eligible and able to play for 55 or 60 teams AAA and above from Calfornia, Arizona , Nevada and Utah. Let me know. Thanks.

Hit The Gap, the UII was initially approved by the ASA after the ASA banned the original (grey) Ultra. The one I have was just purchased new in the wrapper and as such is a rare find. I have only used it in one BP last Saturday.

Softballer, at this time I'm holding the Synergy 2 in hopes for a trade, otherwise I'll respond to you next Monday.

Discussion: Bats For Trade

I have a number of bats for trade for 1st batch Synergy's (yellow label, no USSSA on it) any oz, although I prefer 30 and 28.

The bats I have for trade are:
1) original 28oz Ultra II (smooth end cap, ASA stamp).
2) original Synergy + 30oz
3) Synergy 2 28oz
4) Signature Model Combat B1, 30oz EXL (never been used)
5) 1st batch Combat B1 30oz EXL
6 )Mayham 120 (green) 28oz

All are in excellent (most, like new) condition with no cracks in them. Will consider 2 for 1 trades.

Discussion: UII Where Approved

SSUSA, SPA, LVSSA. ISA for sure. I think there are 2 others that are new Associations WSA and CCSA but some one else needs to confirm them.

Now that so many are Associations are allowing Seniors to use the Ultra II, the quality of the ball being used will be the critical factor.

Discussion: SPA approves Ultra II

The SPA responding to their own country wide survey is giving Senior Players what they want and have approved the Ultra II for 2006. This will also include the switch to a 44/375 ball. The ball manufacturer has not yet been determined.

Kudos to Ridge and his organization for once again listening to the Players and responding to their wishes!

To my knowledge this makes the SSUSA, LVSSA and SPA the only softball associations allowing the use of the Miken Ultra II. The other organizations should take heed!

Discussion: Compare the Senior Softball World Tourneys

Glad you asked. There many aspects to be considered in responding. Each of us I imagine have different points of view as to what constitutes a good tournament, for instance for me it's the bat and ball standards and format. One umpire is not a problem for me IF they hustle. I've been to many World's where they used two umps and niether hustled or understood the senior game. Having said all that my favorite Worlds are (in no particular order) the LVSSA, SSUSA, SPA. Least favorite all that use the ASA rules.
I hope you get a lot of responses.

Discussion: ASA National Council Meeting, who's going?

It is my fervent hope that the ASA dis -associates itself from Senior Softball completely. I also hope that ISSA and the SSWS drop their affliation with the ASA and at least adopt the bat and ball standards of the SPA, if not the SSUSA and LVSSA.

The ASA has never given a rat's rear end about Senior Softball and never will. and I could care less what changes they make. It's too little too late as far as I'm concerned!

Discussion: Tharaldson wins Phoenix 55 Major

This was quite possibly the best 55 Major division of any of the Senior World championships. The SSUSA triple crown East (HMR) and West (Ruth Realty) winners were there, the SPA World Camps were there ( Handleman) the California Cup winner (Animals) were there, the LVSSA Masters Champs were there (D&K), along with the Cicago Classics and the South west Cup winners (Kidz4ever). The Kidz lost their first game of the Championship round then reeled off 5 consecutive wins only to lose in the championship game.

. After playing their last six games in a 24 hour period with 9 60 year olds on the team it was just asking too much of the Kidz to beat the "best" of the best this weekend - Tharladson's. They should be extremely proud of themselves for winning what I believe was the strongest, most competetive 55 major bracket in all of Senior Softball. To "Dudley" "Tag" "Denton" and all the players on your team the KIDZ offer our congradulations for a job well done and deserved!

Discussion: LAS VEGAS GAMBLING DURING TOURAMENTS

The locals stay away from downtown and the strip. If you want the best play for the money, try the local joints such as the Cannery, Rampart, any Stations Casino, any Arizona Charlies, the Orleans or Suncoast. Even most of the Bar and Grills give you better return than the strip or downtown.
If you like Video poker look for machines that give you a 9/6 return on Full Houses and Flushes i.e. 45 credits for a FH and 30 credits for a Flush. Stay away from anything below 40/25. Good Luck!

Discussion: Ultra II Beyond 2005

Thanks to Terry's lead the LVSSA has also approved the Ultra II for use in it's World Campionship play. They will also be using a 44/375 Decker "Shark" ball as the "official" ball for the World's.

Great bat, great ball and Las Vegas, who can ask for anything more in a World Tournament!

Discussion: USSSA Results??

Sorry, fellas I cannot share your enthusiasm for this tournament. The balls and bats were a good match and overall the umpiring was ok. The fields were well groomed. BUT it is a pain to travel to especially to have it three days with only a 4 game guarentee.

The biggest problem, however, is the USSSA, although a member of the summit had no clue as to the rankings posted on this site. We (kidz4ever) were forced to play in 55 Major with 3 Major + teams while all other teams that were ranked Major (that attended this tournament) got to play in AAA including one that had previously played in the major division in both SPA and NSA (taking 2nd both times) and that had defeated us twice in the SPA and that owns victories in previous tournaments over Major + teams. When the trournament officials were confronted with this discrepency they professed to be totally ignorant of the ratings; which begs the question then how we with a season record hovering around .500 and with 9 60+ players got put in with the Major + ranked teams!

We took our lumps, lost all 4 games, BUT we will never attend another USSSA worlds.

The Summit obviously means more to some of the orgainizations, but the fact is that Senior Softball is anything but unified, not with geographical boundaries, snowbird rule, bats, balls, pitching heights, pitch counts, runs per innings, home run allowances, divisions etc.

What is the purpose of the Summit? So far it has provided more frustration than satisfaction!

Discussion: Need Snowbirds Response

The snowbird rule has been abused to the point that it is no longer valid. I agree it needs to go away, but something needs to be put in place to help Seniors in Bruce Walkers situation, so they can play at the highest level they are able to perform.

Walk - I agree that you and a few others (including our last year's 60 team) have been screwed by the regional rules. However, I have heard that has changed already according to an article in the latest SSUSA newspaper. I have not seen it but that was the information given to me. Maybe someone on this board can clarify it for us.

The three best, by far, is SSUSA, LVSSA and SPA. True Senior organizations that allow the best bats and use the best balls with the best awards for all levels and ages.
