Discussion: New Pitcher Rule

I tried it. It interferes with my control. My pitching motion follows through is like a MLB pitcher and I end up with my whole body moving forward the plate. I have tried standing still and pitch and with that delivery I can move back but I lose a lot of my control.

I didn't really worry about the ball coming back at me as I had enough control to keep it out of that area, unless the batter wanted to hit it back on purpose, till around last August/Sept when I started to develop Neuropathy in my pitching hand. My tournament pitching days are probably over but can still pitch in Rec league play.

Gary: Good point. I am not crazy about that idea but could live with it.

BigLou: It depends on your style of pitching wheither you can back up or not. When I pitch all my momentum is forward so it is hard to stop change direction before the ball is back at you.

Question for all the critics of an 11th fielder. Have you ever played with 11.

Outside of the idea that it changes the game what is the downside of it except some batting averages will go down.

Tate 22: Have you ever tried pitching wearing all those items you suggested?

If you get the egos out of the way the easiest way to protect the pitcher, to a certain extent, is playing with an 11th fielder up the middle.

People will howl that we can't change the game, well every rule put in or suggested changes the game. Going from wood bats to aluminum change the game, Demarini changed the game with the double wall bats etc.

From what I can see the biggest objection to a middle fielder is batting averages will go down.
So the question is everyone trying to protect the pitcher or their batting averages????

This looks interesting. What are the age ranges that usually attend. Any other old timers attend?

As a long time member of this board IMO they were deserved. At times it gets to personnel between those two and they get carried away..

For once I agree with Dirty: It gives the teams from Fl an unfair advantage over teams from other parts of the country.

MadDog: I don't know. I think I felt worse than he did. He was getting upset and I don't blame him. That is something I never do. I think I can remember one other time doing that in a game a few years ago. I was trying to pull the ball and wasn't quite getting around. Last game I tried to pull ball on purpose.

Depends what part of Western Mass. I live in the Worcester area. Springfield is like 45 mins for me.

Dmac: I am just going by your statement of your problem.

southpaw: I agree with you wholeheartly. Up to a couple months ago I could locate the ball so I got very few balls hit back at me and the ones that were I knew when the ball left my hand that it was coming back at me.

I am a middle hitter up the RCF gap and with the middle fielder in our age group you have to learn to lift the ball. I rarely hit one back at the pitcher. Though I did in one game in Vegas against Fairway Ford. I must have tired or my blood sugar was high or something because I pulled 3 in a row back at the pitcher. They were all pitches that I would normally hit to RCF.

Pitchers and batters have bad days and there is nothing that can ge done about that.
But there are hitters out there that

Learn to lift the ball a little. Poor excuse for hitting up the middle on purpose.

I agree with ShaneV. One thing I would add is playing with an 11th player up the middle (like the older divisions) That is one way to protect the pitcher somewhat.

I know most players won't like that because it would take about 100 points off their average. You would have to learn how to hit away from the middle fielder.

Discussion: NIght games in Phoenix 60 AAA

I pitched there last year in the 65AAA div and to say the lights were bad is an understatement.
Every pitch I threw I prayed that the ball wasn't hit back at me because once the ball left my hand I couldn't see it.
For me it was a pitchers nightmare.

Discussion: A Question for all teams

What is it with rings anyway. Can't we just go out and enjoy the game at our age and don't make such a big deal about a ring which you have to buy anyway

I have won 3 rings over the last 2 yrs, big deal. I am not going to buy one so I can go around spouting see my rings.
Just play the game we love and forget all the sideshows.

Discussion: Wny "no-warranty"?

Simple answer. Would you rather pay $300.00 with a warranty or $200.00 without a warranty.

Why should I pay and extra $100.00 so you can have a warranty on a bat, which I would probably never use.

Your right it is a great bat. I had one but I sold it. I just don't have the power to hit over outfielders heads or the bat control to hit the gaps and just ended up hitt 250-260' long line drive outs so i switched back to my Mut 98 where I can hit 120-150' line drives in front of the outfielders.

I guess they figure you young pups can afford it as they were selling them at the 70-75-80's the week before for $130.00 or they got smart over the week.
