For some of you hot shots. If, you do not like the way things are going, why not try the following?
1) Start ones own Assocation
2) Become a SS-USA player rep
3) Keep raging about the small items
4) Do nothing
5) Wait awhile
6) Make helpful suggestions; try not to tear down

In a few days or weeks, SS-USA, will post some of SS-USA'S, results from this past weekend.

One major change will be, that each "area section" or T.D., will be able to go on line & post the scores. This has been in the works for sometime.

One of the NEW items that cost..... is to up grage SS-USA'S message board, so, that "area T.D.'s" will now be able to to post score much faster. What does this mean? T.D.'s, will not have to call in scores to Sacramento, any more.

"Give me a break? & I don't buy it!"

This thread has been Hi-Jacked. Can we bury the bat & ball matter. SS-USA & THRUMP, have three more years inwhich THRUMP, will be selling SS-USA, balls for our Senior SS-USA tourneys.

Before 2001 or 2002, SS-USA, did not have any agreement
with any ball company. As was, SS-USA, used what ever ball that was being used in that city, that SS-USA, had an event on going.

In the 50 & 55 Major & Major Plus, the U-2 & a different ball should be looked in too. The ball & bat combination is where more bad bounces seem to happen. In these two age group, the present day bat & ball cominations, causes: 1) a higher & unsafe B.B.S. 2) balls traveling thru the infield at a higher speed (less time to react) 3) very long & at time boring games. My opinion, it is not much fun watching or playing in a 2 1/2 hour game.

As far as the 65 & older age groups, these age group should be able to hit any ball & or ball combination. I hope the 65 & older divisions are completely left alone.

Is senior softball in a mess? Is the 50 & 55 Major / Major Plus age group caught in a " Catch 22"?

ASA & Dr. Brandit Lawsuit: Does anyone care? ASA, hired Dr. Brandit, inwhich the start of all of the bat banning, etc.

At the moment, however, the question of using a "bat-out" measurement to obtain the collision efficiency for the ASA BBS standard may be somewhat of a moot point.

Richard Brandt, the inventor of the Bat Performance Factor, has patented the "bat-out" technique[10] and subsequently sued the ASA to prevent them from using it to certify bats.*

The lawsuit has been settled out of court, and all references to BPF and "bat-out" measurements have been removed from the current version of ASTM F2219.

* As of May 2008, the ASA has apparently reached an agreement wth Dr. Brandt to allow use of a Bat-Out measurement (through a potentiometer in the pivot) for the testing and certification of softball bats for the ASA.

What does this mean. (I read to much?)

The 47 cor ball with a 525 comp. Trumpball, is correct on B.B.S. & on Speed thru the infield, Another point that many may miss. The 47 cor ball with a 525 comp, breaks more bats. Does not matter weither the bat is Aluminum or Composite.

If, one really wants to hit a dangerous ball, try hitting a 40 cor / 525 comp ball.

A 47 cor ball with a 375 comp for winter & a 50 cor ball with a 375 comp in the summer, would be the better chose. I am not sure if that most players are awear that a 44 cor ball with a 525 comp will "fly" farther than a 47 cor ball with a 375 comp.

Trumpball, will you "educate" seniors more on the bat & ball subject. Some do not seem to understand that the different Softball elite, (ASA, NSA, ISA, USSSA, etc), are the ones that inform Bat & Ball companies, just what should be done.

As far as SS-SSA, is the 1.20 BPF, the old or revised ASTM F1890?

JIM 16: It has been known that ASA, NSA, U-TRIP, do not & have never test bats. Part of the bat licensing agreement that ASA & others have is that the bat manufactors, sent a minuim of two bats to get tested.

The bats are sent to one of the following labs that test bats: 1) Fluid Tech' 2) Southern Impact 3) Rhode Island 4) Washington State 5) Detriot Testing Lab. Once the bats have been tested, the Bat Companies sent the test results & sign some form of "agreement."

Have you seen this statement by a SPA member?
"XXXX, I was at the SPA in Dallas and just got to your e-mail. Thanks for your response. I think NSA has been feeding SPA a line. I don't believe NSA bought two Synergies and tested them because the first batch of the bat had been sold out for a month and Easton hadn't been shipping any more to stores. Why does the Synergy remain approved by ASA and USSSA if what NSA says is true and USSSA uses the same 1.20 BPF test? I'm writing an article about it's time to end this banning of bats mid-season for the next issue of the Minnesota softball publication. Dick "

There are many persons involved: 1) Matt Kovaes (Easton) 2) Eddie Ray Cantrell (NSA) 3) Rusty Trudeau (Baten Sports) 4) Loren Gress (Decker Sports) 5) Dr. Larry Noble (KSU) 6) Kelly McKeown (ASA) 7) Dr. Mark Mc Dowell 8) Kevin Schullman (Trump / Anaconda Sports)

If, batters can swing a bat faster than 100 MPH, & the TV show Sports Science, show & calaculate BBS, of over 135 MPH, is all or just some of this data, false.

What is really going on? T Hi-J

Salio 2k: Not sure if, your comment was sincere. My point, was that if, a proper ball is used, the batter & not moden technology, would be the force behind the long ball.

Todays Bats & Balls combination, needs to change, if, SAFETY, is of any concern.

If, the U-2, is used, Senior Softball, should find a ball, that the batter & ball do the work; not moden technology. As, is, again the bats are preforming & doing 80% the work. When will the ability of the batter, timing, etc, come back.

If, my research or ability to read & understand data, the present day bats & balls, can bring back SAFETY & still allow the long ball.

It is a shame that anyone can hit a bomb. Some where a players ability, has been lost.

To all of you knot heads: The old 1890 ASTM, had it's faults. The C.O.P, was @ one point on a bat.s barrel.

The revisied ASTM 1890, test the C.O.P. @ five points on a bats barrel. Thats, why, only ASA, uses the ASTM 2219.

ASA's , ASTM 2219 was designed by an out of work Bat Engineer. This standard has meany flaws.

ASA, told the bat testing labs, to help the bat companies, inorder to for ASA's,to get their $1.50 for each bat made under ASA's, licsening agreements with Miken, Easton, Worth, etc.

In 2003, the Bat & Ball companies, told the different softball organizations, not to go to the 40 or 44 cor balls. So, on, & so, on.

Face the "real truth." Todays Senior bats are closer to a 1.25 B.P.F. As is, Senior bats & any bat that still has the old 1.20 B.P.F., are doing 80% of the work. If, Seniors or the softball ruling elite, really gave a damn, about safety, the bat would do only 20% of the work & the ball would do 80%.

What, does this mean in real life. That the batter & not the bat, will have to do the work. NOT BAT & BALL TECH. Or as Gary, post, R & D.

But, hell, I am full of .......

Taits: The reason for four division is what? For myself, I believe that four classes will allow more seniors to get involved & play softball. It is no fun knowing that your team has no chance to win.

Another reason, players will filter down into a class were they players enjoy the game. No team or group of players want to spend money & get their butts beat badly or never win. To me, this just would not be fun or worth the money.

Does anyone want to see a strong Major Plus 50 team play against a weeker 50, 55, or 60 AA or AAA TEAM? There would be no fun, after a few games. The older & less talanted players could get hurt w/ the missles hit thru the infield. Most players do want the chance to win.

If, there was only one or two divisions, many senior would not spend their money to play. Taits, would you travel to get your butt beat or take a chance of getting hurt. It would not be fun, traveling knowing that your team was going 1 & 4 or 0 & 4.

T Hi-J

Again, four myself, I wish that there was information on the B.B.S., how fast a softball did travel thru the infield when wood, aluminum, & single wall bats, were used 20 years ago.

JAWOOD: Todays problem have been cause by the lighter bats & balls. In 2003, SS-USA, posted an article about the misgivings of 40 & 44 cor balls. People such as Kevin S, McDowell, Ciocco, Russell, Adair, & others, have written many articles on the MISGIVINGS, of ASTMsBat Standard
2219.

ASA, is the only softball organization that uses ASTM 2219. Senior bats still pass the old ASTM 1890 Bat Standard. Not sure if, ASTM 1890 WAS REVISED?

Has anyone asked this question? Why, do the following softball groups still use the ASTM 1890? That would be USSSA, ISA, NSA, etc, & several Senior groups.

Last year, ANACONDA SPORTS, developed a chip that could be installed into a bat. This chip could be read & if, a bat was shaved, that chip could not be read. What happen; the other bat companies did not want the chip in their bats & ASA, ISA, NSA, USSSA, etc, would not & did force any option that would, or could stop most of the Shaving of bats.

There are balls that have been develpoed that would cause the ball to do 80% of the work. These balls will & there are "FIELD DATA", to support this data, that these "NEW" balls will travel thru the infield 10 to 15% slower.

What does still data mean in real life: 1) safer balls 2) injuries will be less severe 3) not everyone will be hitting 400 foot shots 4) the batter & not the bat & ball combination, will be the force that causes the long ball
5) this balls comp will stay the same in weather 50 to 100 degrees.

Hopefully, Dirty & Enstein, will leave this post alone.

T Hi-J

Won't happen. The Major softball organizations, have their own needs & not the needs of the players.

Discussion: The 1-1 count

Gary H: Does anyone know, how much time is saved when the 1 & 1 count is used? (ONLY a few minutes?) As far as the time limit, in the R.R., is the time limit 55 or 60 minutes? When the D. Elimination starts, what is the time limited, 60 or 65 minutes? ( AA, AAA, & Majors.)
In Phoenix, last month, how many games in the AA, AAA, & Majors went 6 innings? 95 % or more? How many games did go the full 7 innings? (60%, 70%, or 80 %?)

Does it really matter in the R.R. or D.E.?

The 1 & 1 count, in most cases, allows the batter to file a ball off, once there is two strikes. So, the maximum time saved would be, if there is a 5 run limit & 10 batters took 1 ball.
EXAMPLE: 4 runs have scored, bases are loaded, two outs & the last batter is @ bat. If, a hit, then the 5th run has scored. Side changes.
It appear that all that is saved is the possibility of 1 to 10 pitches.

How much time is lost do to the following: 1) Side changing? 2) Extra warm up pitches? 3) Batter taking to long to get into the batter box? 4) Catcher missing a thossed ball? 5) Catcher not throwing ball back to pitcher
6) Pitcher not catching ball? 7) Batter waiting on pitcher? 7) Umps not ready? 8) Ump out of balls? 9) Ump trying to collect or correct score? 10) Ump keeping score on H.R., runners, ect? 11) I am sure there are many more reasons.
The 1 & 1 count may only save a few minutes? But, i believe the game will go faster if, batters, runners, fielders, & so, forth, did hustle more. Just my wooden nickle.

Tait: last one. Too much work.
The following should help you in understanding the ball compression and how it relates to certain bats. I have broken it down to what I hope is an easier to understand format, because I know it can be confusing.

375lbs low compression = more flexible or 'mushy' does not perform well with high flex bats. DO NOT USE A BAT THAT has a great deal of FLEX! Use a STIFF BAT!

400lb-475lbs. mid compression = medium flexibility still performs OK with most bats.

525lb. compression= harder ball-performs well with almost any bat on the market, but especially juiced or high flex models etc.

Core 47= more flexible bouncy or 'mushy'
Core 44= medium flexibility
Core 40= less flexible

As you can see here if you were to have a core 40 with a low compression ball you still will have decent almost mid performance, which I have found to be true in my own testing as well. But as soon as you pair up low comp with core 44 or 47 now you have much more loss in performance with the high flex bats and why I now recommend the RT CK with those balls. Anything mid and above will perform well with high flex bats and juiced bats. The ultimate for ball hardness would be 525lbs. paired up with core 40 not 47. I know many balls are paired more with 525lbs. and core 47, but the 47 is not what makes those balls fly so far, it is the compression.

NOTE: A balls COMPRESSION & NOT a balls core is the most important factor!!!! So, a 40 core ball w/ a 525 compression, in 50 degree weather, will "fly" a long way.

Endloaded bats will in all instances make any ball fly farther, but in the case of low compression with core 44 and 47, it may not be enough to overcome the loss in performance that is experienced from the flexibility of the ball.

Outside temperature and the climate you may play in will also effect performance. Cooler temps will keep the ball harder and flying farther. Warmer temps will keep the ball more flexible and mushier.

Also bat weight also factors into hitting a ball for distance. The heavier the bat and the heavier the endload you can swing the better for distance, even and or especially on the mush balls.

I hope this may help some pick the right Bat(s) or Balls; in League or Tournaments.
Not sure who, wrote this information.

4X4: If, it take .111 of a second for the eyes to send the message to the brain. Then it takes .299 of a second for the brain to send back to hands, legs, arms, eyes to get a reaction. Let us call this movement. O.K.

MATH: .111 of a second + .299 of a second= .40 of a second. This would be true if, older men were still capitable of the .40 of a second, for reaction.

A slow pitch softball thossed is traveling @ 23 MPH to 26 MPH. This means that in one second, a softball will have traveled 33.73 ft to 38.13 ft in a second. At 23 MPH, a softball will travel 50 ft in 1 1/2 second. A softball thossed @ 26 MPH, will travel 50 ft in 1.31 seconds.

The last 12 ft or so, the eyes, brain, etc will not process. A batter is aiming @ a point in space.

Boys just like to have fun. Have fun. Nice to see that old men just want to bicker. If, I stated, that when a batter starts their swing, the batter does not see the ball the last 12 to 15 ft.?
Also, there is not enough time for the eyes & brain to "down load" this in coming data. The same is true when a ball is batter back to a pitcher or infielder.

Since a batter in SLOW PITCH softball, has a ball thossed, about 23 to 26 MPH @ that batter. A pitcher has a ball traveling any where from 40 MPH to over 110 MPH, hit back @ that pitcher.

Pitchers , Infielders, & Batters, do not see a softball in the last 12' to 15'; or is it that the brain can not process data @ close distance?
