Play in a senior volleyball league. Play occurred that caused chaos. Player serves deep over the net, back line guy smashes the ball and hits his own guy in the back of the head. Ball rebounds back to the guy who smashed it and he hits it over the net. Is that a valid play????

I think it would be allowed if the player were between 6 and 12 feet high, although not all umps can judge height correctly (especially on the tall guys).

Perhaps the Senior Volleyball League should look at placing screens behind players so they won't have to worry about head shots?

Has your league now mandated rear facing helmets to protect you head, and concussion protocol?
I sure hope he doesn't sue for whiplash! (maybe the ball was deflated a couple pounds).

Did the player smash the ball with a Miken or Dudley?

Ask Millette on the old scout website I'm sure he knows.

Congrats again to Cornerstone on their championship.

All jokes aside and all of them are pretty dang good.
I would say yes it is legal. What rule did it break?
The smasher did have contact by another player between smashes. I do not think he could carry it with his head LOL

This is what I found on the Volleyball rules:
3.2 Contacted ball: A player who contacts the ball shall be considered as playing the ball.
******3.3 Contact of the ball with the body: The ball may be hit with any part of the body above the waist and still be in play. If it hits below the waist it is a foul. The ball cannot come to rest visibly on the body.
