| March 26 BruceinGa Men's 70 3233 posts | Hobbies I was able to go back pages and cut and past James's post. Hobbies Hi all: We talk a lot of softball on this board but I know we all have hobbies other than this game. I will tell you one of mine is knives. I am having a custom made by a guy in Oregon right now (Nate Clark) If you look on Arizona Custom knives you can see some of his work. I have seen a lot of his work in person at the Eugene show and it is fantastic. I like custom automatic folders but that is just me. I am also a drag race fan and like to stream fish. | March 26 BruceinGa Men's 70 3233 posts | r I still like drag racing. In 68-71 I ran F-H stock in my 67 383 Coronet. There's a guy here in Georgia that is writing a book on the history of Georgia drag racing. I gave him serveral picutres of Anglias and funny cars in the late 60's. One is a Polaroid of Huston Platt just as he loses control of his funny car. The crash took 20 lives. 3 years ago my wife and I took a class, Flyfishing for Seniors. I've been twice since then and have participated in a trout stocking program near Atlanta. Another hobby is custom picture framing. If I ever give up softball I'll probably play golf again. |
| March 26 2awesom Men's 50 308 posts | r My Hobby, other than softball is collecting Philadelphia Eagles stuff. Let's say there have been 3,000 players who at one time or another have signed a contract with the Eagles. I have about 2,000 of those players autographs. I am always looking for Phila Eagles autographed stuff. I know it sounds bizarre but that's what I enjoy doing. And I know that i probably won't get all of those autograph's but that's my goal! I also have an extensive Phila 76'ers autograph collection. Finally if you need a certified autograph card of Donovan McNabb, chance's are I have it. I know I have issue's but hey if you have autographed Phila Eagles stuff, give me a shout! |
| March 26 leftie Men's 70 41 posts | r I used to street race in my 406 cu. in.(405 HP) Ford in the early 60's. I have a small shop in my backyard where I've built several wood projects, including a couple of blanket chests for my kids. I play golf..Well, I'm not sure that's what you could call it. I also have a couple of metal detectors and try to get out when I can. Me and a buddy like to explore old fort sites. |

| March 26 mad dog Men's 65 4191 posts | r lefty,sounds like you play golf like i do,at least it is a nice few hrs of relaxation,i did get a couple of rounds in at dalton last yr tho.i also bass fish,well teach the lure how to swim,and watch the fish laugh at me.back in the day used to drag race,bracket racing stocks for me(69 super bee 383),i couldn't afford the money to do anything super to my car.also collect shot glasses and wives,LOL. |

| March 26 Fred Scerra Men's 80 542 posts | r I bowl for a hobby. (The real bowling Candlepins). Used to bowl for real but now don't have money for softball and full time bowling so just down to 1 day a week with a group of Seniors. |
| March 26 JamesLG 421 posts | r I had three 10 second street cars but nothing real nasty fast. Go to a pro streetrace now and guys are running in the 6 second range but those cars are Pro Mods to me. I did have a pro street 48 Anglia and it ran easy low 11's but I was afraid to hit it hard. My driving skills are not up to a short wheel base car with 15" of rubber in the back. I never even put sticky tires on that car because I did not want to hurt the car or me. It was a fun cruiser though. I can't afford to do the hot rods anymore that is why I went to knives. I can buy and sell and not be out a lot of $. The key is to just have fun. Thanks: James |
| March 26 batter4u Men's 65 82 posts | r I was into drag racing in the 60 s , won my first trophy with a 53 chevy 6 banger, have to admit that I cheated a little, had a gmc truck engine in it, but it looked stock, was only 16 at the time and got grounded for a month as I wasnt soupose to be off the farm. that was when you could set timing by ear and points by eyeballing them |
| March 26 BruceinGa Men's 70 3233 posts | r Len, the question is where do you put 3-4000 trains??!! Maybe I'll do more fly fishing when I retire. As for drag racing, I only did it for a couple of years, 68 & 69. I didn't have the knowledge or money so I only ran stock. We could use slicks up to 7" and I had headers, 4:30 gears and a windage tray in the oil pan. Just barely got into the 13's. |

| March 26 Gary Heifner 248 posts | r I enjoy skiing and snowmobiling. I fish a little almost everyday. I live on a lake and catch 2-5 lb bass off my back yard. I like to play golf but it really screws up my softball swing. So I play mostly during the off season. I enjoy working out and do something for the softball season daily. Weights. walking treadmill etc. Other than that I work for BNSF railroad after 30 years as a teacher/coach. I have to keep working to pay for this softball habit. |
| March 26 Gekle BUilders Men's 50 204 posts | r Well all the drag racing got my attention,I had to post.I have a 9.90 super gas 87 monte aero coupe.Best pass 9.84 @ 142 mph.Back half stroker small block,all motor.I also fish on the B.A.S.S. circuit.I also chase a golf ball around from one bush to the next.So throw in running a M+ softball team and it's no wonder I had to retire.I also restore and build customs and drag cars. |
| March 26 ShaneV Men's 55 393 posts | r Senior Softballers are amazing. If I ever have the $ I want to find a '70 Boss 302 Mustang to tinker with. Knew a couple guys in the early 70's that each had one. One red and one orange. Met a collector a few years back and talked Shelby Mustangs for hours. For now I run chainsaws on weekends. Sitting in a cubicle all week I need the fresh air and outdoors. My dad was a faller back in the 40's-50's. He just turned 80 last August and still going strong. Good example after he quit drinking. We both love being out in the woods, the smell of fresh cut cedar or fir and wood smoke. Dad's got a little sawmill too. My other "hobby" is classic rock. It seems this may be one of Dave Dowell's hobbies too! I got a callback from KZOK 102.5 Classic Rock this morning and they are interested in participating in some fashion at the Classic Rock at the RAC Lacey WA August 22-23. Some of my softball buddies and I may get on the air next month to talk about all of you and what a great game we're so fortunate to play. You can stream the station on the internet. | March 27 three for five Men's 60 6 posts | r I'm with Gary Heifner. I think golf is terrible, especially for inside-outers on the diamond. Fortunately, the game BORES me out of my gourd, so I don't feel deprived. Like to ski, travel to see my Cal Bears play football (everywhere), and hit the gym several times a week to work off the weight with as much aerobics as I can stand! |

I also restored 64 1/2 thru 66 mustangs in the 80's and 90's for extra spending money. The guy that got me started had a 68 Shelby KR500 that he had restored. He was excited when he sold it for $12000 in the early 90's! |

Runs 8:30's in the quarter, and is street legal everything works, use to run with the Chicago Outlaw Superstocks. Also ran a drag boat back in the 80,s, tunnel boat, ran 9:0's 121 mph. still a little crazy, but fun. |

I remember meeting Tom Hammonds when he had the fastest street car in the US and he ran a 68 Camaro I believe. | March 30 curveball Men's 65 705 posts | r I also am a "gear head." Restored several L-88's for the Bloomington Gold meet in the 80's. Drag raced from 63-01. Ran lots of categories, stock, superstock, Pro Stock in the 70's, and finally comp my last 7-8 years. Ran mostly in the Pacific NW, ran with one of the onwers of SSUSA's brother, Jerry "the king" Ruth in the 70's when I ran Pro Stock and he ran Top Fuel. Pro Stock at that time was running mid 9's, at 135 mph. Hell, A/SA (a stock automatic) run that et today at a little less mph. In comp, I ran alot of the SM classes, altered classes, and Econo altered classes (400 cubic inch, 1-4 barrel, and a powerglide) Ran 7.50's @ 187in A/EA. Great ride for an old man!! |

I started racing at the old Lyons drag strip in wilmington,Ca, in the late 50's and 60's lots of fun. I got into drag boat racing in the mid 80's, but too dangerous for me, you worn a parachute on your back in case the boat flipped, chute would open and pull you away from it. |
| March 30 JamesLG 421 posts | r Curveball; I watched Jerry "The King" run many times at the Old Puyallup Raceway in the mid to late 60's. I think all the big Funny car people from the west coast would race there. My favorite drag racer of all time was Bob Gliddon. I see his son Billy is running in the 10" tire pro street cars. I belive he ran over 200 MPH last year in his small block NOS added Mustang. I was in Jr. high in the days of the Puyallup track and usually drank a bottle or two of Balli High and 7-Up mixed, that is how my big brother taught me how to drink. | March 31 curveball Men's 65 705 posts | r Geezer, ran Lions in the 60's and 70's also. Fontana, San Gabrial, Riverside, and lots more. Those were the days. Did you ever run across boat racers Mike Chaney, Stan Hawes, or Toby Schlagle? James, I also ran Puyallup many times in the old days, like running stock and superstock 4 abreast! Many of my friends ran funny car in that era, one still a crew chief today for Ron Capps. Twig Ziegler, Whipple and McCullough, Ken Goddell, all good buds. Sat night funny car race at Puyallup was a fantastic race for that era. The best always showed up for that one, then over to Kent (SIR) for Sunday. When I licenced in Competition Eleminator, you have to have 2 licenced drivers watch you make 3 passes and then "sign off" on a sheet so you can get a valid licence. Your favorite, Bob Glidden, and another old Pro Stock guy, Frank Iaconio, signed off on mine. Having Glidden as one of mine was always special to me. |

| March 31 GT Men's 60 162 posts | r HUGGNZ--Several of us belong to HOG(Harley Owners Group) Do weekend rides with the group or we just head out on our own. Also belong to Patriot Guard. For those brave soldiers who did not survive. We assist the families in any way we can at the church and cemeteries. I can't describe the feeling when you get hugged by a family member of the deceased and tells you how happy they are that people do care. Hope some you also belong to this or HUGGNZ's group. | April 1 Gary33 149 posts | r I collect Coca-Cola collectables. I also Hot Air Balloon have been involved with the Kentucky Derby Festival Great Balloon Race for over 30 years. Have flown in the Energizer Bunny balloon, Shamu balloon's first official flight the Uncle Sam balloon, I have taken lessons in the Coca-Cola balloon and also in the Mello Yello balloon. I've taken lessons from a World Champion balloonist. Also from the worlds youngest commercial female balloonist. I've flown in the United Van Lines Moving Van hot air balloon. Flying in a hot air balloon is one of my favorite things to do besides playing softball. |

| April 9 snowed-in_new_yorker Men's 50 15 posts | r My hobby, other than trying to manage 1 of our local over 50 travel teams, is the collecting & the restoration of paper mache bobbing head dolls (nodders) that were made in the 1960's. I used to collect trading cards with my son when he was young but turned to collecting sports nodders after card collecting got out of hand. I have a personal collection of over 180 dolls - primarily hockey, football & some baseball. I even created a website to show off just my hockey dolls. Seems like a strange hobby but my restoration business keeps me busy during our long winters. Tough to get outside and practice -- We even got snow yesterday! |

I enjoy fishing and hunting and like you Bruce, I too collect knives of all kinds. Elk hunting is a treat for me and I get to see them all year.Fishing Lake Powell and the area reservoirs for Lake Trout, stripers, etc is also a passion.Snowmobiling and dirt bike riding goes hand in hand with all of it. And we do the whole gambit Judo Kobudo Aiki Jitsu and Kendo. Give it a try! Really stretches you out. (I think the young guys have a pool going on how long I can keep going before I drop dead) They give everyone a nickname mine is "Moses" |
