Shawnee: Heart of America

SHAWNEE, KAN. – Senior Softball USA is bringing the Midwest Championships back here in 2013 as the tournament continues to attract more and more teams from several states.

This marks the fourth straight year that Shawnee has hosted the Midwest Championships, making it one of the premier tournaments in the country.

“This tournament continues to grow and we expect even more teams in 2013 because of Shawnee’s central location, great fields – and hospitality,” said Terry Hennessy, Chief Executive Officer of SSUSA.

“Shawnee has gone out of its way to make Senior Softball teams feel welcome – and players feel comfortable,” he said.

The tournament will be held July 16-21 at the Mid-America Sports Complex and all divisional winners qualify for the 2014 Tournament of Champions.

Last year’s tournament drew a record 58 teams from 12 states with teams from seven different states taking home championship trophies –and TOC berths.

First-time visitors here should check out Shawnee Town 1929 which is a museum that is a division of the City of Shawnee’s Parks and Recreation Department. The museum is currently undergoing an expansion that will allow visitors to experience a typical day in and around the 1920s farm community of Shawnee through authentic collections, exhibits, programs and events.

Shawnee officials like to say that the city “is perfectly situated between Kansas City area’s most popular attractions - plus we boast a few must-sees of our own for you to enjoy. So come and stay for a day or for the weekend and let us show you and your family just what we mean by Good Starts Here.”
