Raleigh is the ‘City of Oaks’

RALEIGH, N.C. – Raleigh has become one of the major hubs for Senior Softball over the past six years, building a solid tradition on excellent fields, great hospitality and a fascinating area to visit.

The Eastern Nationals is the first step on the road to the premier prize of the sport: the Triple Grand Slam. Winners of the Eastern Nationals in Raleigh will face the winners of the Western Nationals at the National Championships in Las Vegas in the fall. Teams winning the U.S. Nationals and the World Championships win the Triple Grand Slam!

The capital city of North Carolina has earned a national reputation for being one of the top host cities in the country with more than 10 million visitors coming here every year.

Raleigh is known as the “city of oaks” for its many trees. In the early 2000s, Raleigh was featured prominently in a number of “Top 10 Lists,” including those by both Forbes and Money magazines.

Downtown Raleigh has been transformed by an attractive pedestrian mall where trees, fountains, and statuary create a shopping oasis. No fewer than six college campuses dot the city’s streets, with wide lawns and impressive brick buildings. The oldest, St. Mary’s College, was founded in 1842. The big name in town, though, is North Carolina State University.

With an abundance of good accommodations, Raleigh is the perfect base from which to explore the Research Triangle area. Both Chapel Hill and Durham are within easy reach for day trips, and after a day of sightseeing, the capital city offers a good variety of entertainment options, from college bars to supper-club shows.
