Discussion: A story about weather

I play ball in the Philly/S. Jersey/De area and we have had rain for 10 straight days with more rain in the forecast. We have played about half of our scheduled league games and have had at least some rain at each tournament so far this year.

Unfortunately I'm one of those Seniors who still has to work, but would love to relocate to warm/dry climate and not worry about rainouts anymore.

Watching the rain instead of playing...maybe there will be sun again someday.

Count your blessings Lecak....

Thanks, that's good to know. Maybe I won't share, that's probably why so many of my bats have broken.

Thanks Lecak, I wasn't sure if it was good out of the wrapper or needed to be broken in.

Ken, maybe I'll bring it Tuesday and get a few guys to use it during batting practice.

Discussion: Break-in time for the Miken Maxload

I just purchased the new Maxload and would like to get some ideas from the members of what is their experience of what the break-in time frame will be.

Approximately how many swings are needed before it is game ready?

I played Friday and Sat. last year and it went off pretty well. If I remember correctly, it rained Sat. night into Sunday.

The complex in York is normally well maintained . I can't attest to what went on last year on Sunday.

It is my understanding that there are at least 10 sixty teams playing on the 18th and 19th of April.

Maybe someone on here with more knowledge on this subject could help. For example, if you play for a 65 Major team, could you also play tournaments with a 60 AAA team?

How does this work and how do you find out?

Discussion: Pitcher Safety Rule

MAC 21, most hitters don't have your bat conrol, but I agree that the rule doesn't really protect the pitcher. Like you, I use the middle frequently and have rarely hit a pitcher but unlike many of the the Major+ players, wouldn't be considered a threat to injure someone.

Many have stated it more eloquently, but if the pitchers wear protective gear, there shouldn't really be a problem.

Good luck this season, rule or no rule I'm sure you will continue hitting your usual .700.

Thanks, I turned your info in to our coach. If we don't have room, he said two others did. I'll know more in a week or so. I hope you are able to play with us. See you on Thursday.

1 up and homeruns as singles seems like a plausible solution for any team moving up and having to compete with power hitting teams. That should also assist with having/choosing to hit the middle. Maybe that would also alleviate all the pitcher protection rules.

While primarily playing AAA, I haven't seen a lot of pitchers hit, maybe I'm nieve. Is there that big of a problem with pitchers being hit.

Is that the same ball that is used in NSA? If it is you are right. I played in an NSA tourney with the youngsters and the combo of that ball and the NSA bat's was as good if not better than using the senior balls and bats.

Discussion: Looks like more associations are going to allow senior bats.

I just recieved notice from a teammate that ISSA based out of Manassas Va. is going the way of other associations and are going to allow senior bats.

I assume some will be happy and others not. It will certainly be more financially viable to not have buy or replenish bats for diffferent organizations.

I would guess that more teams will now be coming to these tournaments.

Happy Holidays

Discussion: How does an individual get his own status changed?

I play for a 60 AAA team out of PA/DE. During the end of the 08 season, I played 2 tournaments with a 60 Major team. I went through what I thought was the proper hoops and was released back to may old team for the Ft. Myers tournament.

Our coach was infromed by SSUSA that I wa now listed as an "Advanced Player Status". I played with the Major team only because they were short handed, now my team is being penalized.

Is there a form, a forum, or someplace to adress this issue. There may be individuals who deserve to be listed as "Advance Status" but not me.

I'd appreciate any advise that anyone in the senior softball community could give. Thanks

The list is up, looks like a lot of teams to me, especially the 60's. I'm too lazy to look up every team's classification so I guess I'll wait for the breakdown.

Discussion: Probably a very naive question, but..

I agree, there are many teams that know they have little chance of winning the tournament, but the ability to play 5+ games makes it worth their while from a financial as well as enjoyment standpoint.

In my opinion, without the 4-5 game guaranty, you would have less teams coming to the tournaments.

I would hate to see it go back to the double elimenation format. Look at the lack of teams going to non-age group tournaments.
