Nov. 15, 2023 Pauk | Topic: Players looking to join a team Discussion: Player for Corky's Early Bird in Owatonna, Minnesota - May 2024 Long shot here, but for various reasons I really want to find a way to play in the Corky's Early Bird tournament held the first week in May 2024 in Owatonna, Minnesota. That tournament is not specifically a senior tournament, but it may have older or senior divisions. I don't live in the state of Minnesota, but I do live in Canada and somehow I've gotten the impression that you can play for a team from a particular state if it borders your state. Anyway, if you can educate me about how this stuff all works, and better yet point me to a team that could use a very good hitter/pitcher, I'd be very grateful. Gary |
Feb. 21, 2023 Pauk | Topic: Players looking to join a team Discussion: I Need YOU for my team March 4-13, Pompano Beach, FL Level of play is approximately AAA. Must be 60, but could take anyone older than that. |
Feb. 21, 2023 Pauk | Topic: Players looking to join a team Discussion: I Need YOU for my team March 4-13, Pompano Beach, FL I'm bringing a team from Alberta, Canada to the East Coast Tournament in Pompano Beach, Florida, just north of Ft. Lauderdale. I need a couple more players (from anywhere!). The tournament is March 4-13 and you can get in 17 games in 8 days, or come for just the games you can. It includes a USA vs. Canada game on March 5th. Great facilities, I've enjoyed this tournament for 6 years. Super bunch of guys, you'll enjoy playing with this team. March 24, 2017 Pauk | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Vero Spring Training recap BTW, in addition to what I wrote above, I'll just echo Jon44's call for a 'Vero Beach West' Camp in Arizona/SoCal/Nevada/Utah. Just think how far Alan can teach us to hit the ball without all that Florida humidity slowing it down! Gary Paukert Okotoks, Alberta, Canada |
March 23, 2017 Pauk | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Vero Spring Training recap You know, I figure almost everyone is self-taught when it comes to slo-pitch. Most of us played some baseball as a kid, and then as an adult found our way into slo-pitch. And have NEVER had any serious instruction or coaching, other than relying on what Dad taught us as a kid, or what we pick up from adult team mates. I played for 30 years like that, a decent player, but frustrated that I couldn't get better. Then 2 years ago I got the idea that maybe there was someone somewhere who was a PRO and could maybe HELP me get better. Thank goodness I stumbled upon Alan's camp in Vero! I'd been away from the game, living overseas for 10 years, came back and had a batting average of .474 the first year. Ugh. I attended Alan's camp, and the next summer hit .585, over 100 points higher. Why? Certainly because of new things I tried. But a lot of it was just the CONFIDENCE I gained that I knew I was doing things right because an expert had confirmed it. It was the best $250 I ever spent - the chance to escape the Canadian winter for a while and play ball among the palm trees AND gain all this knowledge and have the evaluation of a professional. Priceless! Alan's right. This year was even a big improvement over last year, because of the personal swing evaluations by video, and a coach standing right behind you making notes for you to take home. Brilliant! I thought I'd end up just hearing the same talks again, but NO! I heard all sorts of new ideas, like the soft-toss hitting into the net. I've been telling all my buddies up here that I could come back for the next five years (which I will), and I still won't have learned it all. Congrats, Alan, on the constant improvement and keeping it fresh. And Bob, I'm going to thank you in advance for all the extra line drives I'm going to be hitting in a few weeks when the snow melts using my new-and-improved knuckles-aligned, elbows down grip and stance! See you all next spring! |
