These bats feel like the U2 as far as weighting goes and they only come in 26 and 28 ounce. So to get a 27 you would have to go to another bat. The Anti Virus 27 balance would be closer to what you swing in the U2.

The two USSSA bats were both Combats. One was a Virus that one of the guys just bought and the other was an SX3 uncensored.

Discussion: New ASA black Rip-it senior bat review

We hit the black Rip-it ASA bat today against the Virus, SX3, NRG 500 and the Anti Virus. The Rip-it was New out of the wrapper and the other two bats had been used already. I know the AV has about 100 swings on it because it is my bat but the NRG 500 I don't know how many but my buddy has had the bat since it came out and he hits weekly with us so I am guessing around 500 swings.

We hit on a baseball field 330 375 and 400 feet with a lot of different types of softballs. 47/525, 44/525, 40/375, and 40/375. The wind was blowing in at 20 to 25 mph and the temp was 67. The softballs had been in my house all week so they were warm.

We only put 50 to 75 swings on the bat because most guys wanted to use their gamers for the first half of their round and we take 50 swings per round. We only had time for one round each and there was three of us. The bat out hit every ASA bat out there and kept up with the two USSSA bat. I hit the fence where the score board is in the air with this bat. The score board is 360 feet from home plate. The bat was very stiff at first and at 25 swings it started to make a different sound as it did at 50 and again right at the end of its swings around the 75 swing mark. It also started to get better distance. It has a bigger sweet spot than the AV but the AV has not totally open up yet.

My other buddies that used the bat hit their longest shots with the Rip-it. One guy went 300 feet twice against that wind with the bat. So I am thinking it will only get better with more swings on it. Now to kind of put this in perspective there were only 3 homeruns hit and they were with the Rip-it Elite and the Senior Combat. So I think the bat did very well. We are hitting again next Friday and I will post more about the bat then.

I have hit those softballs also and they do save your bat. The bad side to them is they will not break in you bat so if you are trying to get your senior Combat to the spider web stage these balls will not help it get there.

I am told that is when the bat is at its best. Softball guru mentioned this on SBF in the senior section. Now I decided to buy a Combat SCX3 uncensored 30 ounce EL with a warranty and use it as my winter bat. It has a return and it is the same barrel and weighting. This bat right now is on sale at Kellysultimatesports for $149.99.

So in a sense my bp bats is costing me $75 per bat and it is saving my gamers. I like to hit the type of softballs I will use in a game in bp. It gives me a sense of where I am at so for me this is a good use of money for a bat.

ENess
PS I am not trying to push anything for Kellys but he does have some great sales right now.

The Wood,
I will be able to test the Black Rip-it ASA bat this weekend against the AV. We are going to go head to head after the Rip-it has 50 swings on it because that is how many swings the AV has.

Only problem is the Rip-it is a 28 and the AV is a 30 EL but I think we will have a good enough test because several guys are going to hit it. So it will not just be my opinion.

Discussion: Is it better to use a heavier or lighter bat?

Mike I did not want to give away all of what Ray was doing back then. He would come over after our games with him and ask me how I could swing such heavy end loads.

Back then there was no bat standards on end loads and I used a 10 ounce factory load with my TPS and Easton. All I had to do is meet the ball and let the end weight finish my follow through.

Ray used many different weights and Larry used 32+ ounce bats.

You are right on with your assessment of how to swing a end loaded bat but you need to add the stepping towards the 5/6 hole and the follow through. If you want to go to right just do the samething with your hands but step towards the 3/4 hole or the second base man. Don't step out of the box.

You bat is quiet until the last possible moment and then it is a hard explosion towards the ball with the barrel leading and the hands staying back.

Hit the gap.
You are so right on the mark. The efficient swing and follow through are so important. It is the only way to keep the bat speed up through the ball.

Larry always had a good follow through but it seemed to get better once he started playing with Ray. I had the pleasure of playing with Larry and against him and Ray in the mid 1990's. It seemed to me that anyone who played for Ray had that efficient swing and follow through.

HTG if you go to an endloaded bat you will achieve more distance but you would have to give up the U2. You may just need to take 1000 swings in bp to get use to it.

I wish I could give out my name but my job does not allow it. Could you e-mail me HTG at sg550223.Yahoo.com so I can tell you my name and you can say hi to Larry for me.

Discussion: Home runs, how far with a normal bat...?

Stoneman I have been known to break a few myself. My AV is very good with 100 swings on it and if the Virus is better then I will have a bonus. The senior combat is new but not for long. We use 44 core balls until the bats are broke in then go two rubber balls.

Rubber balls on a baseball field will bring one back down to earth. But at least it is hitting and that is always gtg.

I don't know maybe it is just me but I like the idea that bat companies have now decided that senior softball is a market worth their investment. I am not sure the bats have to be as hot as a U2 but I like the idea of having our own bats.

The new senior Combat is right there with the U2 but might just enough behind to make everyone happen. I don't know much about the bat yet as I have not had a chance to hit mine but I will this weekend and we will hit it against my buddies U2.

Stoneman I thought I was going to get to hit the AV against the new Rip-it senior ASA bat this weekend but the Rip-it will not be here until Monday so that is a no. I will however have a chance to break in my Virus and Senior Combats.

I hear that Kevin. I heard Easton is bring back the orginal Synergy which would make that climb. Worth depends on Miken to make their bats so would Miken make a Worth U2? Mizuno has really never started that climb to the summit so I wonder about them.

In the end I think it will be a bat made by Miken or Combat. Now if Easton brings back the Orginal Synergy that would be the third player.

I hear that Easton, Worth, Combat, Mizuno, and maybe TPS are going to start making bats for senior only. Anyone else heard this rumor yet?

I asked Mike Macenko once about what was the biggest factor in hitting a softball out of the park ( this was before these bats but our bats were still pretty good) and he said three things make or break you. Conditions, Conditions, and Conditions.

I believe he was right. Bruce and Mike can hit the ball out against the wind with dead balls but not as often as they can with the wind or no wind and in cooler temps. The man knew more than he spoke back then because he was only talking about wind not temp.

Discussion: isa and ssws worlds

I do to but I also know that in order to have a lot of teams in each divisions at the worlds you are going to have to cut out a division or two.

AA and AAA are where the majority of teams play so lets just cut out the upper two divisions and let the major and major plus players play down. Two divisions = lots of teams.

I tend to disagree. I believe any time evolution takes place it is a good thing. It is what we do with that evolution that makes it bad or good.

You know this happens every winter. Guys hating the bats, the balls, and the number of associations. Some wishing for the good old days and there is nothing wrong with that as long as we understand you can't have the good old days with your pick of the new rules added in.

In the 1970's when I started playing here is what it looked like:
ASA only until the mid 1970's
TWO DIVISIONS A AND MAJOR
Wood bats in the mid west then thick walled metal bats.
Fast pitch 50 core softballs followed by polycore 50 core softball with who knows what compression. That was followed by the T 4000 and then back to the polycore with a range of 44 to 50 core
Some open fields but mostly fenced fields with the FENCES DISTANCE BETWEEN 275 AND 285.
Unlimited Arch on the pitch.
Unlimited homeruns
no time limits
no run limits
60 foot bases
46 foot pitching distance
NO REGIONAL RULES!!!!!!!!!!!!
100 team tournaments divided between two divisions
No sandbagging.

As far as today goes the ASA is the association with the most concerns about bats (even though they have no real proof the bats we use are a safety issues. Some guys would like to just have the ASA and the USSSA but with that there is a problem.

ASA senior softball only has one tournament and that is the world as does USSSA, NSA, and ISA. So it seems they do not believe we the seniors are worth their time. That leaves us with the senior associations who are trying to do what the players want by keeping the good bats and decent balls. And yet we still have some who want to go back to the good old days but I would bet you would not want to go back to the two divisions, 275 to 285 foot fences, unlimited homeruns, unlimited arch on the pitch, no bat standards (bring back the 36 inch bats) and 50 core softballs.

Life evolves boys and so does everything we do. You can't go back and only remember part of what was going on and then say lets do that again. It is either all or nothing. And before someone says well the scores where not as high or there were not as many homeruns think again.

I wonder what it would be like if all we had was the ASA, NSA, USSSA, and the ISA. As it stands now that would only be four turnaments a year. Think God Terry, Ridge and the others decided we needed our own associations and listen to the majority of the players as to what they wanted. The only problem they have is the regional rules with the Major Plus divisions. You want those to be bigger you have to open it up. The others have to many problems with bat rules, different ball rules, and sandbagging. Sorry it was so like and like everyone else just my opinion.

Gary,
I sometimes wonder if you can read and understand what you read. First of all I was just putting up the reason Matt from Rip-it still calls his bats senior.

Second of all if you look closely you will see even Matt states "Most softball players think of 50+ leagues when they hear Senior (we do too)." He seems to be using this as a marketing technique. Is that any different than any other bat company?

Discussion: BEST 2007 ASA BAT ? ANTI-VIRUS

I hit the Anti Virus against the many other 2007 ASA bats and for me it is by far the best. It out hit the NRG, Stealth, and the Wrath. If you get the bat remember it will take about 100 to 200 swings to break in but once it does the bat is GTG.

I use a 30 ounce EL.
