First a reply to DMac - no I'm not related to your friend - that I know of anyway - sorrry/
To others replying to the message, I haven't seen too many 70s listed. Our local club, the Redwood City Senors, located in Nor-Cal has been using this method since before I joined, 23 years ago. Yes, I did get knocked down once before we posted the run-by rule, no collisions at any cost.
Nor-Cal uses both ASA and USSSA umps. Yes we do have to retrain the older ones and refresh the young ones but it hasn't been earth shattering.

Gentlemen: I have pushed for this rule for the last 10 years and to no avail. Huntsman Games umpire in chief said that there were to many accidents from the run thru. How can that be since Nor-Cal and Hawaii are the only two assns. that I know of that use it.
My macho days are past and my knees are in constant pain but I will play hard up until I can't take it any more. Stopping fast or sliding have become a long forgotten memory.
Why not poll the different Classifications of age groups and see what the consenus is?
