Discussion: 1-1 or 0-0 Count

From the this lady's view: I just returned from the tournament in Palm Springs for Ladies only. 1-1 count with no foul for everyone. Not sure that the game was sped up since it seemed that not many teams got to the 7th inning anyway. It seemed like many of the players in all age brackets were not used to the 1-1 count - our seniors where I live don't use it in our rec leagues. I saw a lot of looking strike outs and frustration. I agree that it totally depends on the accuracy of the pitcher you are playing against but most players in the older age brackets are looking for their pitch rather than just hitting away. I'm a pitcher who usually throws mostly strikes so the 1-1 count was advantageous for me sometimes but I admit that when I am NOT on, the 0-0 count helps me control my game and challenges the batters to find/hit their pitch. It all goes back to the idea that slow pitch is a hitting game. Wish I would have voted on the count issue.

Discussion: Visalia CA Senior Olympics adds 50's Women Softball

Visalia Senior Olympics has added a Women's 50's class for slow-pitch softball. This is the first attempt for the Central Valley to promote the Senior Olympics so the women's class was a last minute addition. The dates are possibly October 22-23, 2015, an initial two-day event with goodie bags and a social. Fee's for a team are $140 and then each player must register and pay an individual fee of $25. Any 50's lady's team should contact the Visalia Senior Olympic website for more information.

Backup pitcher (Linda with New Kids 65's) wants to play in Peoria on a 60 or 65 women's team. My team isn't going - am OK pitching/catching and base hitter usually but no guarantees. Am neither slow or fast. Email me at RQS7366@sbcglobal.net

So organizers told the 65's and 70's (women) that they only had 1 day available - several teams pulled out - then organizers changed to a 2-day tourney, Friday and Saturday for this age bracket. I know 3 teams pulled out but anybody know if any teams are going because I wanted to play and my team pulled. I am a backup pitcher that usually plays for New Kids 65's. Any info would be great. email: rqs7366@sbcglobal.net Thanks

Am 65, feel 60, have played 55's and 60's, turned 65 this year (2010). Always throw UNDERHAND, pitch, catch or right field accurately. Retired, can travel, good attitude, base hitter usually, can still run OK. Will come to tryout if you want. Desertlady Linda (Central Valley in Calif)

Looking for a 60's team that is planning on the Senior Olympics in San Francisco (near) this summer. Both myself and another lady from the Fresno area are qualified to go but don't have a team. I pitch/catch,some outfield---she plays infield/outfield---we both are base hitters. Looking for team for St. George also. No attitudes, just enthusiasm.

did you find someone? I am hot and cold in the pitching but always throw underhand. Played with New Kids 60's in St. George and have played with Arizona Sunsets. Sent my player fee in for Phoenix but don't have a team. Could possibly be a backup pitcher/catcher. Base hitter.

Tami: Am finally better after hand surgery so would like to know if you still have any spots open. Remember, I always throw underhand, best at catcher, of, or 1st and maybe pitch (haven't tried slowpitch yet). I am older (62) than the ladies you have been talking to but am anxious to get back into playing especially travel. Let me know if you remember me (Fresno) and if I can be of any help to your team. Thanks and hope to talk to you soon. Linda Smart - Desert Lady

Connie: I tried out for a 50 team (Got2playball2) and did ok but would really like to be on a 60 women's team if any in Calif are looking for another die-hard. Always throw underhand so probably best at catcher, 1st, haven't tried slow pitching but maybe pitching and love the outfield so can still run--average hitter. If you hear of any teams, please pass on my name. Thanks DESERTLADY
