Birdie: I had my name on 3 rosters but played primarily with Job Central, and traveled to potterville to keep up on my 55 Brickyard Brothers to fill in if needed. Since the Brickyard 50's were at the same complex as me and a little short on Friday I signed in with them just in case someone got hurt..............Knowing a certain fellows reputation for stirring the pot all I'll say about the water is " I usually buy a powerade just to get the bottle and fill it regularly from the water provided" If they have it.

Great weather, good tournament, BUT, two water jugs for 4 diamonds was a bit chincy (No Ice Either) Outfielders had it rough with the 325ft fences and the 2ft tall grass.........man thats a long run when the ball gets thru the infield. I'll chip in for gas for the mower.
Thanks to Corky from Miken for giving me another glove (already broken in)now I have 2 of your hand me downs. Us leftys need to stick together. Sorry we got put out early, I know I promised you some swings with my freak+ players model. Maybe next time.

Your right Mad Dog.........It would put the home team at an advantage, because they could sub (defensively) for the guy that would have run in the bottom (home half) of the inning. ????

Discussion: Tie Breaker Rules

The way I've always played the international tiebreaker is to put the last batter of the previous inning on second and the batter get's in the box with a full count. Basically one pitch. I think in senior rules the runner at second has to advance one base before he can ask for a courtesy runner, BUT, can the runner at second be "substituted for" with a player that is not currently in the lineup?

Nancy..........How many 60AAA teams are registered for the Brickyard so far?? I might try to play with the 55's as well if there are no conflicts. (at least drink their adult beverages)

Discussion: Pitcher's Screen vs Rocket Bats/Balls

As usual Jaewood and DRob hit the nail on the head......with the wide range of talent in leagues, the screens should be used (tournament teams use them in BP). Not so in tournaments. There is more parity in the skill levels. Most guys want to use the bats they use in tournaments in league play to get the muscle memory thing goin. League players want them to win a T-Shirt. Use the screen and everyones happy. "Keep on Playin"

Discussion: Senior bats for Senior leagues

Mad dog: Just an update; we contacted SSUSA and I quote "SSUSA is happy to include insurance coverage, offered by National Certified, Inc. as part of our 2011 packeage of products and services available to league and recreational tournaments" they list all things covered and amounts paid for each occurance. The cost is about what you would pay in sancion fees so that's a wash. Looks like we're on our way.......Just a side note since the discussion veered off to the difference between league (rec) and tournament players....when polled, the league players were the ones that seemed more adamant about using Senior Bats than the tournament players. Only speculation on my part, but it seems the league players goal is to win the T-Shirt and the tournament players just want to get the swings in for tournaments. (The rabbits will run with this one 8-)

Thanks for your input Jim and mad dog...Park director said he would put our NSA sanction fees towards an insurance policy if thats what it takes......If not we'll just have to break out the Freaks and Mayhems.

Discussion: Senior bats for Senior leagues

The park where we will be playing is a private park and has nothing to do with any municipal rules. It "IS" an NSA sanctioned park and the owner just wants to cover his posterior. I could give a hoot about what bats they use but the older guys (65+) want to use the bats they will be swingin at tournaments. I heard that SSWC has an insurance policy that might cover them? I didn't want this post to pick the scab on the "special bat" issue. I was just trying to accomodate the owners and players. If we can't, NSA / USSSA bats will have to do. They get pretty good when broken in anyway. How do the sanctioning bodies get away with it when they host tournaments? Just help, not commentary on the evil bat ball thing please.

Discussion: Senior bats for Senior leagues

Locally, the senior softball community organized to shop our entire league around the local parks to get the best deals on fees and the like...........We have partnered with a good facility that currently caters to the youngsters and is an NSA sanctioned park. The issue is that the seniors want to use their bats and the Park director has yet to find a way to accomodate them due to the liability issue. You that have local leagues AND use senior bats, HOW do you address this issue. (Please, I know most of your thoughts on senior "special" bats, so no personal comments, only positive constructive feedback) thanks

Discussion: TIME LIMITS LIMIT ENJOYMENT

Just some food for thought (pool games only)and please don't string me up for a simple suggestion. Most umpires are paid on a per game basis and most parks here play 4 to 5 games per night per diamond...with that said and the discussion about how the senior games tend to run over the time limit, the senior Org. here went to 2 innings on offense and 2 innings on defense until the 7 and it was played as an open inning as usual. Being a purist like Gary I didn't think I would like it but it seeems to work pretty well. First team up, gets 5 runs or 3 outs, whichever comes first. Then they clear the bases and do it again. When the 7th comes around its all you can get. It allowed us to stay away from the one and one count and most games got 7 innings played on time. All it does is eliminate 3 transitions (on and off the field)per game. What ya think

Mario you beat my Freak plus to death............I hit that bat for 5yrs before you and Big Phil got a hold of it. It finally gave up the ghost at BP in 2010. Just got the 2011 Freak+ players model and it has a yrs. warranty. It seems to be hotter out of the wrapper than the black one. Got a 30oz you can try when we start hittin outdoors. Discussion: TOC Tournament Dates

Kuuup and Brett, you guys are spot on with your assessment of how and when the TOC should be played. There are 2 threads on this board addressing this issue. I also believe the number of teams attending in Nov would be greater. We've had 3 bids and have not attended one, because of those reasons you laid out. It seems to be falling on deaf ears. Having missed 3 opportunities our team has made it a goal to qualify and go this year so we can at least say we've done it. Prepared or not.

Discussion: TOC suggestions

Having missed 3 toc's for the reasons cited above, I'm all for having the TOC in mid to late November. I think the weather is still good in FLA. and the cold weather teams would still be in game shape and their rosters intact. In Indy we put our gloves up in early Nov. and can't get outside again until late March at the earliest. I agree with Beasley, the Winters after the Toc would work best because teams are most likely operating with the next yrs. roster at the winter national. Just my 2 cents
