Discussion: Softball Scorekeeping Software

I have been considering keeping score this year on an ipad or laptop. I am looking to use it for more than one team. And hopefully, printing out games results and stats. Any suggestions, comments on this topic is appreciated.

Discussion: Ft. Knox Tournament

Hey Guys, Anyone know the results of the tournament in Ft. Knox KY (SPA). We didn't go because all the teams in our division dropped out. Hope it was a go...I know Wes put in a lot of work trying to get a new tournament started.

Discussion: Questions concerning ranking and skill levels.

We have decided to disband because of SSUSA's refusial to lower our rating. They sight stats as reason to move or not move a team, but I feel it is more political than anything. We attended the TOC in Feb. We lost all six games by an average of 11 runs, yet maintain the same rating. I know they can come up with an explanation as to why we will not be lowered. The rules, however, are set up so they can pretty much do what they want.
JimS...I appreciate your frustrations.

Discussion: Setting your lineup

Hey Guys...Great ideas and comments. They all have merit and help in making my deciaions. I especially agree that team chemistry and having fun are critical. As manager I also always hit last, mainly to reduce "gripes" and because it gives me time to get the game going before I bat.
I have a great hitter (hard line drives and ave. 700), bats left but can't run. Have been using him in the #2 position, but thinking about moving him to 3 or 4 so that it will increase the chance of having someone on base when he is up.
Appreciate all your thoughts...keep them coming.

As of this morning, the tournament is a go. Wes stated that the tournament will probably start on Friday, May 14th, instead of Thursday. Depending on your age group it may run Fri. to Sunday; Fri. & Sat., or Sat. & Sun. Should find out Sat. morning. There are 5 teams in the 65+ age group. Don't know about the others.

Have managed senior softball for many years. Always felt that your batting order is critical to having success. Would appreciate your comments and opinions as to what you think are important factors in determining batting order.

Discussion: Congrats to all at the TOC

Just wanted to say how much we enjoyed playing the Florida Legends, Las Vegas Elks and especially Scrap Iron 65's. You all are a class act and despite Budweiser getting a good old "butt kicking"...it was a pleasure stepping onto the same field with all you guys. Hope you all had a safe trip home. Look forward to seeing you this summer...although we will probably not be Budweiser, since it looks like we will be forced to disolve rather than having to play M+...which we all know "we are not"

Discussion: New PPR & Middle rule

Having played on two age groups in both SSUSA & SPA tournaments...it seems that SPA has the best rule. They simply do not have a PPR. I have seen numerous problems with umpires correctly administratingthe PPR. At the SPA tournaments, including Nationals at Dalton...there was not one incident of injury, that I am aware of, to the pitchers. The new rule, as I understand it, would take away a pitchers ability to make a play...if the ball passes through the "24" plate. If you are going to remove them from making defensive plays, why not go to the extreme of using a 24" by 72" screen. That way the pitcher can have some protection and if the net is hit, the rule would be enforced.
But, as I stated earlier, it would be best to completely do away with the rule.
Happy Holidays to all my senior softball friends.

Discussion: Disbanding!!!!

Since SPA, after watching us play, did re-rate us to Major we will probably only play in their tournaments, as well as Senior Olym. in Missouri & Illinois.
Many of our players are approaching 70 and they want to have the option of playing for at least a "AAA" 70's team. Our age also explains why we are having troubling beating Major & Major Plus teams.
I agree we will probably avoid the "super" softball tournaments. We have been playing SSUSA for 15+ years. Thats a lot of money. Guess they don't care about that.

Discussion: Disbanding!!!!

Most of our players agree that playing exhibition is worthless. What is hard to understand is that the "other" organization dropped us to Major and three different SSUSA directors stated to me that we are not major plus, but for some reason they still refuse to rerate us. Disbanning seems to be the only solution.
Thanks for your comments.

Discussion: Disbanding!!!!

We are considering disbanding at the end of the 2009 season. We feel we are ranked too high, but all efforts to get rerated have failed. Because of our rating (M+) we have been asked to not attend several tournaments and in several of those played...we had to do so as exhabition games only.
Looking for comments, especially from others who have or are thinking about disbanding.
