Tater50 did you vote on the debt ceiling? By the way I believe SSUSA receives your vote everytime you choose or not choose to attend one of their tournaments. For the unlimited HR gang come to the LVSSA tournament. Someone please take the time to explain to me why the LVSSA has seen drop off in attendance over the last several years. Unlimited balls over the fence, Vegas a great venue for tournaments late September weather is almost perfect. The LVSSA uses the X-rock plus all the balls you want to hit over the fence. Bull are you coming to LVSSA, if not why not? Phoenix will have 350 teams and LVVSA probably 100 or so. My experience only but most teams do not want unlimited balls over the fence.

Maddog stick to the 52 ball your football knowledge is in need of some brush up just kidding. Bert summers are for golf and fall and winter at the book no time for softball. Bert years ago one of my hero's growing up in Pittsburgh was Jimmy Vacarro who grew up in Pittsburgh and moved to Vegas setting betting lines. I did some undergrad and post grad work in statistics hoping to make book for a casino. I had a chance to work at the Stardust years ago but turned it down they just don't hand you the keys to the kingdom. DBAX you'll be in the same boat I'm in but you can't have my extra ticket. I would bet the Tuscon Bandits will be out before the early Saturday east coast college kickoff. DC what about Justin Upton for MVP and Gibson for manager of the year.

First off anyone play fantasy football? I do it keeps me in numbers and statistics which I love. If you do chime in. Second living in Vegas obviously I get to dabble at the sports windows legally. Last couple of years I have been keeping track of my percentages last year in 45 games I had a winning percentage of 64.5%. If you haven't seen me on the softball diamonds much there you go, I got my nose studying trends and statistics. This year I'm going to participate in the Hilton Supercontest. $1500 entry fee about 350 handicappers from around the country. I'm putting my money where my mouth is and decided to see if I could duplicate last years performance. I want to be able to document these numbers. The Hilton has their own website and my picks will go under My Platinum Picks App. This should be fun and either very lucrative or very embarrassing. Good luck to everyone this year and enjoy your favorite team. My team is the Pittsburgh Steelers and I'm and Arizona Cardinal season ticket holder. My dilemma the Steelers are playing the Cardinals the same weekend as the Phoenix worlds, pretty sure I will be at the stadium.

Maddog great question. I tried something several years ago along the lines you suggested and it quickly devolved into a cluster ****. Maybe I just had a bad day but it started to gravitate to what everyone was comfortable with. This team should not be here, this team hits too many HR's, we need 5 runs, We're not an upper team we should be in the lowers, it went on and on. I had several of these lined up to go with SSUSA the decision was made to cancel them due to the bad publicity that potentially could be generated.

Pricer in this day and age the consumer is king. The business world is littered with failed companies who said my way or the highway. Whoever gives the best experience will grow and thrive. Frannie with SSUSA is the best customer service in softball period so guess who is the biggest in senior softball. They all basically have the same rules for the most part. You cannot tell people to take it or leave it and the consumer is always right always.

Maddog seriously why do you care what Tim does with his team. He gave you facts, they make sense you may not agree but this is what their team decided to do. For the record we have done the same thing with my team. $300 dollars divided by 10 players is $30 bucks a guy cheap entertainment in my book. When we travel you have to figure minimum $500. I would love to have what NORCAL has set up. I probably would never go on the road. 110 teams worth of guys for maybe 10,000,000 residents absolutely phenomenal.

Discussion: LET'S FIX THE TOP---Part Three

DD not talking about sponsorship that is a different issue and I'm with you a myth. What I'm talking about is my team having a player interested in playing and Terry saying if you add him up you go without even finding out how it fits. You don't have that problem you just add him. Also if I'm correct you don't have to qualify players at the Major plus level, major teams do. So let's say Phoenix I want to add a player I have to find a tournament prior and play you don't you just add him. Big advantage. Donnie I agree Terry and Ridge can fix this if they want to. If they don't you will have major teams pick and choose who they play against and where they play. As a guy who helped build an OK major team we need access to the same players and the ability to add them without spending valuable travel money to qualify them. Senior softball roster rules for upper teams are obsolete and skewed in favor of the major plus teams.

DD, Terry has to allow the major teams access to the same player pool. He has not done this and he needs to remove the plus label from a significant number of players or remove it completely. Right now I cannot add the same players you can. SSUSA can fix this they just need to do it. SPA this year had 8 major plus teams total in their tournament for the 50's, 55's and 60's. Don't know what happened but SPA from the folks I talk to is major plus friendly.

Discussion: Todays game?

Pricer I've played with and against Joe for a number of years. Several stories none of them hitting. Prior to me getting involved in senior ball I watched Joe take over a game in Vegas not with his bat but with his glove and legs before he got hurt. His head first slides as a mid 50's were something to watch. Played with Joe on a team called the MOB great teammate and was the missing piece on a very good 50 team. He pitched for us gave us a presence and command on the mound. Got to hit against Joe when he played with 5 Spot a 50 major plus team scratched out 3 hits against him. We were beating 5 Spot by 10 or 12 runs they brought Joe in and down we went stopped us cold. This year in Reno I never saw Joe go right side and he hit 3 sharp gappers to RC. We had an excellent game against the Barons we lost 20-15. Very few HR's, the game was fast paced well played and most of all very respectful. None of these recollections have Joe pounding the ball over the fence, can he yes but his pitching, and command of the game made him a good teammate and competitor. Me personally I just don't see what you and Maddog see. To answer your question on composites, I think it has had a negative impact on the younger crowd and will have more of an impact 10 years from now for Seniors than it does today. This year I very rarely use a senior bat mostly due to the HR limits in 50 major. As a matter of fact half our team does not use senior bats we manage just fine. As for the durability of the aluminum bat my recollection was that they dented like cheap beer cans towards the end of their run. Right before composites came out I remember commenting to someone that I expected someone to come out with a disposable aluminum bat. I was expecting one of the manufacturers to come out with a 6 pack of bats for a price.

I wanted to clarify we had scored close to 60 against the team not a combined score. I think the other team was in the teens when this was stopped.

Discussion: How do the other major teams feel about major and major plus in western national

Get this one back on track. Tim one of the first games I played in major plus was the last time they had no run limits along with no Hr limits. This was several years ago but what I remember was the game was stopped mainly for safety reasons but we were in the 4th inning and we were close to 60 runs and if I had to guess we would have come close to 100. I'm trying to remember I don't believe there was a mercy rule or time limit. Several weeks later the rules were changed to what they are. It was not because of this game it coincided with their rules meeting. We probably played the last game of it's kind like that. My guess is without the 5 run rule you would see more of this in Senior ball. If they decide to go back to a more open style some real thought would have to go into this. One thing this would do would really identify the better teams very quickly. Sometimes a team only defense is the fact that a team cannot score anymore runs even though not one out was recorded. You want to put premium on defense take out the limits you don't need to change anything else. At that point I would guess participation would drop significantly and not by choice.

Webbie there are probably no more than 8 active 50 major plus. Several of the 18 are dulplicates and a number of others are no longer together. When I played several years ago the most we saw was probably 8 in Phoenix. The tournaments we attended this year there was one in the Winter worlds in Las Vegas, one in the spring worlds in Mesquite, four in Reno. Maybe some of the east coast and midwest guys can add from the tournaments they went 2. Also Webbie there were only 2 major plus at SPA from what the schedule showed and SPA is major plus friendly.

Webbie your sure Dave is reading this? Terry needs to read it also. He's being told by a number of teams who have supported him throughout the years including mine to get this fixed. Beasley I would like to invite you Las Vegas and help me recruit. How does allowing Major plus teams to have access to even more players solve the problem being discussed by the major teams?

Congratulations to everyone who was elected this year. I know three of the gentleman elected, Roland Bleitz great outfielder, Ron Danoski way to go Ron well deserved, and Bruce Fairchild got to meet Bruce when he was working in Las Vegas what a sweet swing looks like Adrian Gonzalez with that swing. Congratulations to all the other HOF'ers

Tate22 in order for the combined divisions Terry needs to just suck it up and do it. One of the biggest changes is to get rid of the HR limits for this combined division. He also has to have the same roster rules for the new combined division. Combining two divisions with two different sets of rules is bad business and I think this thread is telling him that. Some good softball people are telling him to fix it. Donnie remember several years ago when both major and major plus were able to score runs quickly with the HR. I've hit one HR this year, Billy Gombos wouldn't recognize me. Tell Bill I said hello.
Donnie I truly believe the ball is in Terry's court if he combines them great if he decides only when it fits his scheduling needs to combine them with two separate sets of rules we are going wait until he fixes it.

Donnie in response to the 5 HR's and an out what I've seen as changes is more 5 man infields as Einstein so astutely pointed out, smaller, quicker players, hitting HR's without bat control as a roster liability and a premium on throwing strikes. Also the absolute dumbest change I've seen is pitchers serving up meat to the no bat control guys hoping the individual will hit a solo HR and the guy heading to the dugout to catcalls with his head hung in shame.

Jawood I'm with Tim on this one we also do not want to be the answer especially when we cannot add the appropriate players. They maybe just tournaments and I agree but they are expensive to attend. We were looking at probably $7,500 dollars in flights, hotels, meals etc all out of our individual pockets. The answer is not to give the major teams who do not play the major plus teams a huge advantage by not having to play them at all. I played against the Northwest Legends too many times to count good stuff, great bunch of guys but and a big but the team I currently play on would not fair well against that team. Until Terry comes up with a better solution that is fair for all including the major plus teams we will use our money wisely. Terry has big issues to deal with to address the major plus division and we do not want to be involved while he sorts them out.

Discussion: How do the other major teams feel about major and major plus in western national

Hi Tim. My team the Southwest Legends are in agreement with this. I hope SSUSA does read this. We were dumped into the loser brackets in both the Winter worlds in Vegas and in the Spring Nationals in Mesqute by Major plus teams. We did go to Reno and the divisions were clean which we aprreciated. We skipped the Southwest tourney in Laughlin and did not go to the Western event this past weekend for the same reason you just stated we could not guarentee the mixing and matching of teams. I've told Fran and Terry we would not go to these type of events that you just described. We also skipped the LVSSA spring event in our own backyard due to the same concern. I'm not one to duck stuff since I played Major plus for a year. Our concern is that we are handcuffed in who we can add so we built our team around different criteria than what I feel a typical major plus team would. The difference in a good major team and a major plus team happens very quickly after the top 3-5 players. We just don't have access nor will SSUSA allow major teams to stockpile players.

Discussion: Player Poll

Maddog my point is if you or anyone else wants the ball to change I don't believe it will happen via this message board. Someone would need to work through SSUSA and get it as an agenda item for their rules convention. Based on the testing they did I do not see this getting to a vote. The other option would be to convince SPA or LVSSA to convert to the 52 ball. You probably know Ridge better than I do pick up the phone and ask him if he is entertaining it. That would be a huge leap of faith for any association to change. What the kids are doing has no relevance to what SSUSA, LVSSA or SPA does. I got no dog in this fight but going back and forth on a message board will not get the change you desire.
