April 22, 2012 cheezhed1 | Topic: Bats Discussion: Wandering info on original question I haven't been on the message board for several years and when I asked a basic question("Need your Input") about the Combat Centenrian bat, it ended up with answers and discussions that were completely irrelevent to my question. While the wandering answers were off target, they were still entertaining. For those of you who kept to the topic, thank you. For those of you who didn't, what the hell were you talking about? :) :) We, as seniors, have earned the right to ramble on about anything and everything including the game we love. As we get older we become very opinionated and sometimes lose our train of thought. I can personally testify that memory is the second thing to go and I forgot the first. Again, thanks for the informative responses and also for the misguided, but still entertaining, replys. |
April 16, 2012 cheezhed1 | Topic: Bats Discussion: Update on Combat SEN-GR2 I am pleased to give a very favorable update on the "New Blue" combat. I have been swinging the Ultra II for many many years and am now a big combat fan. I was only able to take about 40 swings at BP. This weekend I decided to use it in our last game at the FHC tournament in Lakeland. I pulled the first pitch and sent it well beyond the fence in foul territory and then hit solid laser beam line drive on the next pitch. The ball jumped off the bat everytime I came to the plate after that. I am excited about the future performance once this lethal weapon breaks in. The only part of the equation that's left is duribility. I'm not a qualified player to judge or test bats, but in my humble opinion, the "New Blue" is a great bat! |
April 16, 2012 cheezhed1 | Topic: Bats Discussion: Saston Salvo SRV5 I purchased the salvo for a local senior league that only allows ASA approved bats. I've had it for 5 months now and am very pleased with it. Solid line drives, a good feel when the bat makes contact, and respectable distance for an ASA bat. It's not going to compare to any of the senior bats, but still is a great bat with good pop. You can find the Salvo on Ebay for $152 with free shipping and it comes with a 400 day warranty! |
April 8, 2012 cheezhed1 | Topic: Bats Discussion: The game we love I added a comment to the "Need your input" discussion (that I started). I would like to share my thoughts with my fellow senior softball players in regard to the latest responses. Thanks. |
April 8, 2012 cheezhed1 | Topic: Bats Discussion: Need your input The game we love has gone through many changes since we played in our 20's and 30's. While change can be good, it can also cause situations that are not in the best interst of the game. When associations try to make softball safer by banning bats and changing softball specifications, they're creating a smoke screen. Lets be real. We can't stop the technology used in manufacturing the bats. The ball is still going to go through the infield at a very high rate of speed regardless of it's core value and compression. We all know that injuries are part of the game. As an infielder and pitcher, I would like to think that nobody in senior softball would intenionally try to hurt or severly injure a fellow player. In my humble opinion, the only person that make a difference in the safety of the game is the person swinging the bat. We can't turn back the hands of time when either your were a home run hitter or you were not. Bat technology has changed that. To avoid those unfortunate injuries, we, as seniors, adjust our game according and try to play smarter. The older we get the better we used to be! Bottom line is, softball isn't broke, associations need to quit trying fix it! |
April 6, 2012 cheezhed1 | Topic: Bats Discussion: Combat SEN-GR2-E Bat First, Thanks for all of your comments in regard to the comparison of the Combat Centenarian and the Reebok Melee. Since then I talked with a friend who is well known in the Senior softball circuit. He's tested many of the bats we use and his opinion is held in high regard. With that being said, he agrees with most of us that the Ultra II is the leader of the pack in distance but lacks durability. I told him I was considering buying the Combat Centenarian. He rated it at third in the pecking order of senior softball bats. He recommended the 2012 Combat SEN-GR2-E Senior Gear bat(blue barrel-Mike Macenko model). In his personal testing and comparing all aspects of the Combat Gear 2, in his opinion, it was a very close second to the Ultra II in distance and has a longer life span. I bought the Gear 2 and just received via UPS today. I will give updates as far as my thoughts in the future. I truly trust this man's opinion and feel very comfortable with his recommendation. Has anyone else tried the new 2012 Gear 2 or have any comments about it? |
March 29, 2012 cheezhed1 | Topic: Bats Discussion: Need your input I, like many other senior softball players, am an Ultra II (red endloaded model) user. I also, like many other senior softball players, am getting tired of the "roll of the dice" life span of the Ultra II. I am considering buying the end loaded black Combat Centenarian or the end loaded Reebok Melee. I don't play alot of tournaments anymore other than the Florida Half century tournaments twice a month (50 and 60 divisions). I would like your input, brief comparison, and what the best choice would be. |
