In a more somber note, I was informed this morning that Jerry Smith's Father has past away. Jerry has spoke of his dad with a great amount of love and affection. Im sure he was a great man as he raised a wonderful person of character and ethics in Jerry. I'm proud to call him friend. Understandably Jerry is in a great deal of pain. Wont you all join me in keeping Jerry his two boys and the rest of his family in our prayers.

Discussion: French Valley Softball League is now forming their summer season

French Valley softball is looking for players to have some softball fun on Thursday nights. Starting June 20th our summer session begins. This is a great importunity for 45 year old (and up) players to see what senior softball is all about. If you're not going to play pass the word around. French Valley is located just outside the city limits of Murrieta and Temecula California. In the heart of the The Southern California Wine country. For more information contact Tom Jadwin at 951 805-4746 or email him at patriotwind@live.com

Great softball weather. You guys that don't come to southern California are missing a real treat this time of the year. Cool and a little breezy on Saturday but Sunday was absolutely beautiful. 24 teams enjoyed the pleasure of doing battle under clear blue sky's in low 80s temps. In the end there were only 5 top teams. A special thanks to all the teams for your participation.

Discussion: Establishing a rationale for the use of senior bats in 18+ leagues...

The French Valley Softball League has a 45 and up age group. 45 to 54 cant use senior bats. (only ASA or U-trip) 55 and up can use senior bats. last week a guy that hadn't played for some time brought an aluminum bat. He's been living in a cave for a while :O) To answer your question I cant see the rational for 40s using senior bats let alone an 18 year old.

Discussion: The Rock balls

I find this an interesting subject. We have an organized batting practice group that meets every Wednesday and Friday at Spencers Crossing park in French Valley. We have around 100 "ROCK" balls. (the choice of the players) Yesterday I noticed several (yes several) balls wiggling as they flew into the outfield. Those balls were not knuckle balls and were definitely spinning. I asked one of the guys to check one of those balls as he picked it up to see if it was cut. It wasn't. I'm just wondering if there is a design flaw in the construction. We cut one apart last year and it has two outer shells. This is what gives the ball the spongy feeling and I suspect the durability in heat. I'm thinking the two shells after being hit morf in some way to redistribute the weight somehow thus causing the ball to wiggle in flight. Are you sure these balls were not spinning?? I'm not an engineer but it would be interesting to find out. We as an association through the encouragement of several managers have just started using this ball. If the ball is flawed we will switch back. I'm less concerned about balls breaking down than a possible safety issue. I guess we can test it on the 18th-19th in Temecula as I have a case of them on the way. More input is welcomed.

Discussion: How can SSUSA possibly reclassify an established Major+ team

Whether its Fan Grabbers or not a quick check of the Vegas major division will tell you Fangrabbers are in with the M's not the M+'s. Another clue is the ratings tab under 55s.

HR: Boy what an ego too... Yes technically I worked for Joe cuz he was president. He had a personality like dracula. Well I guess he had no personality then. My boss was Dennis Holding VP of Sales. Now this will take you back. Remember the Frantic 4 top fuel dragster? The "Four" were Weekly, Rivero, Fox and Holding. Jim Fox and Dennis Holding supported the top fuel car with a paper route in Pomona. Yes a paper route. They threw papers at 3am to 7am and then went to work in the day. Fun days for sure!!

Rob (curveball) glad you had a good race and congrats. I read somewhere Rick has his own ride. Its red in color I think. I'll have to do some research. Looked like a good race. I was rooting for an all girls final in Funny car though. I always liked Stardust Raceway in the old days. Haven't been to the new track as I don't get to vegas that often. Yes by all means come over. We have 11 tournaments a year. Next weekend we have 26 teams. Hemi guy enjoy the southern nationals. I was in atlanta once a lifetime ago when I worked for Mr Gasket. I had a blast in those days.

But reality and old age catches up to you. Sad day today my first real TV love (8th grade) passed on today. God bless you Annette... RIP. Bit of trivia for you old guys that were Mouseketeer fans. Mouseketeer Tommy was non other than Top Fuel TV Tommy Ivo. But I never watched because of the guys anyway just, Annette :O( If you're interested there is a very nice article about her on the FOX News web site

Have a good one
