Coronavirus Update - SSUSA Cancels All 65+ & Older Divisions for Next 30 Days
For the past several weeks, all of us have been flooded with information – and warnings – about the rapidly spreading Coronavirus (COVID-19). It is a fast-changing and evolving health crisis for a growing number of cities and countries.

It is very clear that the greatest danger is to seniors 65-plus. While most of our players are in good health, there is significant danger that they can pass the coronavirus to families and loved ones who would be more in danger.

Therefore, Senior Softball USA will be canceling all tournaments for 65 and older age groups for the next 30 days.

Those include:

The Spring National Championships in Polk County, Florida
The Spring World Championships in Mesquite. Nevada / St. George, Utah
The Tidewater Classic in Virginia Beach, Virginia
The Cow Town Classic in Tulsa, Oklahoma
The Chili Pepper Classic in El Paso, Texas
The Gainesville Qualifier in Gainesville, Georgia

Those affected teams will receive a credit for their entry fees for future tournaments.

We intend at this point to hold the 65 and older divisions in the LVSSA/SSUSA Southwest Championships, but we will make a final decision on April 1 after evaluating the progression of the pandemic.

We will continue to hold tournaments for the 40-60 age divisions with these mandatory health and safety measures recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and the World Health Organization:

“No-Handshake/Contact” Policy

SSUSA is immediately instituting a precautionary “no-contact, no-handshake policy” to be observed at every level of the organization until further notice. This includes all physical contact and extends to customary game-related activities, such as umpire-coach introductions, and post-game handshakes between members of opposing teams. Instead, staff, players and coaches should verbally “good game,” without shaking hands, high-fiving or fist-bumping, etc.

Maintain Good Hygiene Practices

All SSUSA directors, umpires and staff and participants in SSUSA-sanctioned events should be aware of the coronavirus risk and take the necessary precautions to avoid exposure to germs. This includes maintaining good hygiene practices. We strongly recommend the following:

Wash your hands often, using soap and water for at least 20 seconds each time
If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol; this is suggested after any physical contact with another person or with a shared surface.
Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands.
Cover your mouth and nose – with a tissue, if possible – when coughing or sneezing, then properly discard the tissue in the trash.
Avoid close contact with anyone else who is coughing or sneezing or who is otherwise sick
Clean or disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces
We appreciate your cooperation in following these new procedures as we work together to maintain the highest health and safety standards.

SSUSA’s primary concern is the health and welfare of players, officials and their families.
