Just FYI. I am 78 years old and have had an injury to my rotator cuff. (supraspinatus tendon specifically) I had an MRI 2-years ago that revealed a 7mm tear. Two years ago I had had 8-weeks of therapy , cortisone shots and here are some things I want to share that maybe some of you are unaware of. Nearly all of us will have a tear in our shoulder at some point. It may be asymptomatic, but it will still be there. However, if you play softball, tennis or any overhead arm motion sport, it will eventually be painful. The physician I went to has done more rotator cuff surgeries, treatments and diagnoses than any physician in my state. He says that surgery is an absolute last resort and most of these type tears can be alleviated with non-surgical methods. In fact, 50% of surgeries are not successful and unless one has a tendon separation should not be done at all. I AM SURE MANY OF YOU HAVE HAD SUCCESSFUL SURGERIES, but at least half are not successful. I once again started intense exercises and pressure point palpatations designed to strengthen the shoulder and after 3-weeks I can safely say most of my pain is gone and I will be able to throw again from 3rd base. So I am posting this to tell older guys that exercises will indeed resolve most rotator cuff injuries. But be very focused and do the exercises and repetitions at least every other day. Some can be done every day, but stay after it and it will make a huge difference. Your pain can be almost totally eliminated with appropriate exercise. I am a believer.

Thanks for the good information and advice. Are there any specific exercises you can recommend to strengthen the shoulder without causing further damage?
