Sept. 3 pete88 Men's 65 51 posts | I have seen a lot of major league ball players using the thumb guards. The claim is that they reduce bat sting and increase bat speed for softball and hardball players. I have yet to see a softball player using the thumb guard. Is it because they don't work for softballers? Has anyone tried one? |
Sept. 3 DieselDan Men's 75 602 posts | I've used both the guard with a wider rounded end and the thumb pro. The thumb pro is the only one used currently. It works on either hand, feels comfortable, no sting in cold weather, and helps keep the bat positioned properly in my hand. The Thumb Pro initially cost $25, but is at $30. The Pro Hitter's product can be bought for about $9. If you do buy one of them, get two. I've had a couple misplaced the last couple of years. |

Sept. 3 DieselDan Men's 75 602 posts | Not really, but more controlled and consistent swings. At 76 my bat speed is still going to come from good and consistent swing mechanics and time in the gym. In all honesty, I doubt the MLB players, who get these guards for free, are getting more bat speed or power. Another item used is the bat grip taper. Makes the left hand feel so much more comfortable. |
