SSUSA,
I have a question , if you win the TOC , why do you not GET AN INVITATTION to be invited back the next year. Even if you are moved up the next yaer , why wouldn't you be invited back to "defend the crown"?

The TOC is an invitational event featuring winners (only) of the major regional, national and world championships from the previous SSUSA tournament season, running from approximately November 1st through the end of the World Championships in late October. The qualifying teams for the TOC must use rosters from the event where they won their invitation, which are in effect prior year rosters at the time the TOC is held.

Teams playing in the 2008 TOC were, accordingly, "2007 Season" roster teams (with two exceptions, discussed below). The 2009 TOC invited teams will all be "2008 Season" roster teams. Since the TOC is a prior year event, the winners do not automatically qualify to defend because they haven't won with the current year roster. They may, of course, qualify by winning one of the current season events, thereby earning the right to defend.

There was a minor timing adjustment made this season with respect to the 2008 Winter Nationals (FL) and Worlds (NV) to move the 2008 winners into their proper SSUSA season, which is 2009. Those winners will be invited to the 2010 TOC for "2009 Season" winners. This adjustment was made to ensure roster equality for the TOC and to prevent a 'new season' roster from the 2008 Winter Nationals or Worlds having a potential competitve advantage over a team playing with a 2008 roster. [The 2007 Winter Nationals and Worlds winners previously received an invitation to the 2008 TOC.]
