July 19 BruceinGa Men's 70 3233 posts | I understand what you are saying Gary. Back in the "day" the only World/National Championship was the ASA Nationals. As years have gone by, many of us prefer one organization over another, SSUSA, ISA, SPA because of their bat rules. Others may be traditionalists, recognizing ASA or USSSA as the only legitimate world/national championiship. Now that USSSA has dropped from the Senior Summit some may change their opinions about them. It all comes down to each of us and what we perceive as an event being a championship. If only one or two teams show up then most would think no big deal. If most of the nationally ranked teams show up, it may get more recognition. We plan to be there because of the proximity of the fields, getting to use good bats and balls and because Ernest has shown that he will listen to what the seniors want. I hope to see you there. |
July 19 BruceinGa Men's 70 3233 posts | We are in agreement on the subject. What do you think about the TOURNAMENT OF CHAMPIONS promoted by SSUSA? Maybe the winners of it should be considered World Champions. We won the 55+ Major plus division in the Springnationals so we qualify to compete. I just wish the tournament would be held this fall instead of Feb 07. |
July 19 turn2 489 posts | Bruce, is your 55 or 50 team going? might try to talk to our guys about this tourney. later, donnie chavis turn two / rekco / county sports |
July 19 fran44 Men's 55 40 posts | Bruce/Donnie: the CT Sportsplex 50 major plus team is working with Ernest to attend this tournment in September.Airfares are reasonable at the moment. Trying to see if Ernest will make this a Sat and Sunday tournment so the players wont need to take off from work. It is out understanding that only 4 teams might be in this competetive category, so we are questioning the need to make this a 3 day event. Please respond with any information you have at this time. Donnie, congrats on your SPA championship. |
July 19 BruceinGa Men's 70 3233 posts | Donnie, Ed hasn't said anything to me about our 55 team playing. Maybe their 60 team will play. It looks like I will be playing 50 that weekend. I'll let you know if I hear differently. |
July 23 Ernest Spikes 3 posts | To Gary19; I understand and agree with what you are saying. With WSA I am trying to get back to the old days when you had to qualify to get into the World Tournament. I was approach by the Seniors last year to do a Senior tournament. I have promoted tournament for the last 20 years and have done very well with them. I was around when you had to qualify for the World before ASA & USSSA change their format for going to the Worlds. I remember when USSSA was the only organization using homerun hitters, they change to conform with everyone else. Now to your question: It's not a World because I or WSA say so, It's a World because this is the one and only time during the year WSA will promote a Senior event. As teams come to play WSA and give us the support we need to add more Senior tournaments, teams will have to qualify for this World event that will happen every September. Get your coach to bring your team and see what WSA is all about. One thing for sure that I can tell you about our iorganization is that we listen to the teams. We have the best balls and allow you to use the best bats in our tournaments. WSA is trying to be the organization of choice for the Seniors to come and compete and have a good time. If you need to speak to me about anything just give me a call at (678) 758-0256 or email me at: elspikes@wsasoftball.com. I am always willing to learn and listen for the good of our organization. Sorry for the long speech, but I wanted to make sure you have a good understanding of what WSA is all about and what we are trying to do for the game of softball. The game has change a whole lot since you and I both started playing. We at WSA do what we do because we love what we do when we do it. Thank you very much for your comments. One thing I would ask of you Gary19 any time you have any questions about WSA and what we are trying to do - Please pickup the phone and call or email us. We will talk to you and answer any questions you may have. |
