Senior Softball Quilt Sewn from the Heart
Jan. 1, 2002 – Senior Softball-USA
Linda Towne took more than 30 softball T-shirts out of husband Chuck's closet to make a beautiful quilt, left, ˆ and Chuck never missed one of them. Linda chose designs from National tournaments, International tours from the 50, 55 and 60 teams Chuck Towne competed in during the past several years. After several months of planning ˆ and collecting shirts ˆ Linda was ready to begin quilting the patterns. She even designed the background in the middle of the quilt to resemble a ball diamond.
"It took about three months to complete the hand-quilting around each design," said Linda, who gave it to Chuck last Christmas.
The quilt was an instant hit.
"Once the quilt was complete, he carried it around like Linus to all his games and tournaments and had all of his teammates and friends sign it," said Linda.
Today the quilt graces the wall of the Towne's Houston, Texas, home.
