GOVERNOR HONORS IDAHO SENIOR SOFTBALL LEAGUE

Feb. 1, 2016

The Idaho Senior Softball Association (I.S.S.A.), run by Del and Joyce Drake, was honored by Idaho Governor C.L. 'Butch' Otter and City of Meridian Mayor Tammy de Weerd back in September.

The Drake's received a commendation from Governor Otter for starting the Idaho Senior Softball Association 60 and Over Slow Pitch Wood Bat Softball League, while Mayor de Weerd proclaimed September 26th, 2015 as Idaho Senior Softball Day.

"Shocked, I wasn't expecting it," said Drake when asked on his initial reaction upon learning of his accolades. Drake would be presented with the honors on the field during Idaho Senior Softball Association's championship game in late September just days following neck surgery to repair a ruptured disc.

Entering its 10th seasons, ISSA began with four teams and has grown to approximately 30 teams with a total of 130 members, ranging in age from 60 to 84 years old. The league holds an annual draft in order to keep teams balanced and avoid teams from stacking.

Idaho Senior Softball Association's main goal is to help keep players in the league enjoying the game as long as possible.
