15 TEAMS COMPETE AT INAUGURAL ISA/SSUSA SOUTHEAST CHAMPIONSHIPS

GALLATIN, Tenn. – Fifteen teams ranging from Kentucky, Illinois, Florida, Tennessee, Wisconsin, Michigan, Indiana and Ohio met at Triple Creek Park for the 2016 ISA/SSUSA Southeast Championships during the weekend of June 3-5.

Starting off in the six-team 50-55 Gold division, Blue Grass 50’s, Chicago Prime 55’s, CKM Wealth Management and Old Style/ASP Nation all had a strong opening going 2-1 in seeding play. Old Style continued its solid performance in bracket play, going 3-0 as the No. 2 seed, to win the championship. Blue Grass finished in second place, losing 26-13 in the championship game, while Chi Town 50’s came in third place.

The four-team 55-60 Gold division featured competitive play throughout, as Central IL Chiefs, DT Express and Motown Stars all went 2-1 in seeding play on day one.  DT Express, the eventual No. 1 seed, bounced back from a loss in the championship game against Central IL Chiefs, 16-15, to take the “if” game and title, 21-18. After losing its opening game, 11-2, to Motown Stars, Central IL Chiefs won three straight, including the win the championship game, before falling short in the “if” game. Motown Stars would finish third.

The 60 AAA division consisted of a best two-out-of-three game series between Brickyard Classics and Cincinnati 60’s. Cincinnati swept the series, winning 22-6 and 15-8, respectively, to take home the championship.

Wrapping up the tournament in the three-team 60-65 Silver division, Doc Martens/Ropes Courses defeated Mid-State Seniors 65’s, 7-4; Indy Fog, 19-18; and Mid-State once again, 19-7, to go 3-0 in the double elimination bracket and win the division.

As a qualifier for the original Tournament of Champions, all winning teams earned an invitation to the TOC in February, 2017.
