9th ANNUAL NORTHEAST CHAMPIONSHIPS

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Teams from several states returned here to compete in the 2016 Northeast Championships at Hopkins Road Park. The forty-six team tournament began with the 40 through 60 age divisions July 8-10, while the 65 and over divisions concluded the championships July 11-13.

In the 40/50 Gold division, Elmwood Sports Center (RI) claimed the top spot, defeating Superior 40’s/Potomac Sports (MD), 19-8, and Hard Hat Café/Latella’s/Vio’s Sports (CT), 16-13.

In the 50 AAA division, No.2 seed Custom Logo (NY) defeated PGC Enterprises (RI), 21-11, to cap off a perfect 3-0 record in bracket play. PGC rattled off four straight wins, including three-straight on Sunday, to reach the championship game and concluded with a hard-fought runner-up finish. Top seed Dominos Ferras 50 finished third.

In the 55 Major division, Tri-State Merchants 55 (PA), defeated Action Auto Parts (RI), 19-12, and top seed Olympian Athletics (PA) twice, including 19-16, in the championship game.

Building Innovation Group (NY) got the better of Harford County LV (MD) in a best two-out-of-three game series, winning 12-9 and 16-12, respectively.

Top seed High Street Bucs 60 (MD) won the 60 Major division defeating JG Drywall, 19-5, in the “if” game, avenging their 14-12 loss in the championship game.

No. 2 seed Deep Purple (MA) were the winners in the 60 AAA division, defeating Roadhouse Blues 60 (PA) and Agway Steelers (ON, CANADA) from North of the boarder, twice, including 17-16 in the championship game.

The 60 AA division featured an “if” game to determine the champion, as Diamond Dawgs (MA) double-dipped top seed and hometown team, Syracuse Cyclones, winning both the championship, 12-4, and “if", 17-13, games.

In the 65 Platinum division, Syracuse Merchants defended their home turf, defeating HermTech (MA), 18-15, in the championship game. Representing the sunshine state, Hot Zone USA (FL) finished in third place.

Bouncing back from its 16-15 loss in the championship game of the 65 AAA division to Brantford Nissan Seniors (ON, Canada), Doc Martens/Ropes (MI) won the “if” game, 13-3, to take the title. After dropping their first game in bracket play, Brantford Nissan Seniors went a roll, winning six straight games, including four straight games on Wednesday to force the “if” game. Athletic Outlet/Travato (NY) finished in third place in the eight-team field.

Bostonian 70’s (MA) took the 65/70 Silver division, defeating top seed Syracuse Cyclones 70 (NY), 22-8, in the championship game to cap off a 3-0 record in bracket play. After going winless in seeding play, Cozy Grill (RI) bounced back in bracket play to finish third.

Another hometown team, Syracuse Cyclones 75 was crowned champion in the 75 AAA division, as New Jersey Jaguars finished second. Peach Tree Restaurant (PA) rounded out the top three.
