SEVENTH ANNUAL JIM SHERMAN MEMORIAL NORTHWEST CHAMPIONSHIPS COME TO SALEM

SALEM, OR – The Seventh Annual Jim Sherman Memorial Northwest Championships were held at Wallace Marine Park Softball Complex with 40 teams competing in the lone TOC qualifier in the Pacific Northwest. After previously being hosted in Portland and Lacey, WA, Salem played host for the first time in the seven-year run.

The championships began with the Men’s 65 and 70 age divisions July 19-21.

Timberworks Construction (CA) dominated the 65 Major Plus division, sweeping W.E. Ruth Realty 65’s (WA) in a best two-out-of-three game series.

In the three-team 65/70 Gold division, No. 3 seed W.E. Ruth Realty 70’s (WA) took home the title, defeating in-state rival Auto Accessory Distribution 17-14 in the championship game. In the three-team 65/70 Silver division, top seed Masters Marauders (B.C.), from north of the border, defeated Bonaventure Senior Living (WA) 18-14 in the championship game.

Up next were the Men’s 50 through 60 age divisions, July 22-24.

Starting off with the 50/55 Major Plus division, CornerStone (OR) defended its home turf, defeating Northwest Legends (WA) 30-27 in the championship game.

The eight-team 50 AAA division saw top seed Mc U Sports (ID) come out of the elimination side of the bracket to double-dip No. 3 seed Dead Sailors (WA) 15-10 in the championship game, and 17-10 in the “if” game. Dead Sailors defeated Mc U Sports 13-8 earlier in the bracket to drop the No. 1 seed down into the elimination bracket. No. 7 seed Rogues (OR) finished in third place.

Top seed Senior Bend Elks (OR) won the 55 AAA division defeating Four Seasons Screen Printing (OR), 21-12 in the championship game.

Goodman Racing (WA) bested NorthWest Hitmen (WA) in the 60 Major division, sweeping the best two-out-of-three game series.

In the 60 Silver division, No. 3 seed 2nd Wind Resurrected (WA) posted a perfect 4-0 record in bracket play to take the title. 2nd Wind Resurrected defeated Bulldogs 60’s (OR) 17-11 in the championship game. No. 5 seed Trachsel Auto Body (OR) scored a pair of upsets in their first two games, including a 24-22 victory over top seed Vancouver USA 60 (WA), en route to finishing in third place.

Concluding the championships were the Men’s 40’s, July 23-24.

No. 4 seed Team Haras (WA) won the five-team 40 Masters Platinum division, defeating J & L Athletics (WA), 28-27, Cody Staffing/All American (WA), 27-19, and NorthWest Legends 40 (WA), 27-26, before earning another win over NorthWest Legends in the championship game. J & L finished in third place.

In the three-team 40 Masters AAA division, No. 2 seed Enviro-Vac 40’s (BC, C) defeated Vortex (WA), 23-8, in the championship game.
